Collingwood player saying no to a paycut

My initial reaction when I read this was...

"Who reported this?"

I read and read, past post after post of people castigating Travis for his selfishness and lack of loyalty and then, heart in mouth I finally read the words which allayed my every fear.

Hutchy.

His past performance in these things makes broken watches look twice as accurate.

Two things I can't possibly see happening;

1) The club offering Cloke less money.
2) Cloke and his father not having a really hard think about leaving a flag contender for short term financial gain. (Dad has first hand knowledge of leaving one club for another for financial reasons.) Long term there is much bigger earning potential in a Collingwood flag side.

Saying your 196cm main forward isn't worth a half million is just blind.

The salary cap is there for a reason and underpaying players to stay under the cap isn't the right thing to do.

Why should Swan get more money than Cloke??

Can he take a pack mark and kick a goal from 50m?? No??? Why not??

Key forwards are worth big bucks. That's the simple fact of the game.

You're main key forward is woth half a mill. Ours... not so much.

No wonder Seamus Mcnamara came to play AFL, destiny has given him half a million dollars...

Um, because Swan is better then Cloke?

If Cloke wants more money he can start kicking some goals

It never said he wanted a pay rise

Definately not that much, about the average for a key forward with some past Collingwood players no longer with us being paid a bit more after 1 good season

Didn't you also initimate earlier that Dawes was signed up the GC?

Isn't it Hutchison making this claim - the same knob who asserted Didak was a big chance to be lured away?

F*cking hell - why get continually sucked in by attention seeking blabber mouths.

you've pointed out 2 games, one of which was against a bottom 4 side.

i think this year he has been OK. he's presented well, and his kicking isnt usually quite as wayward as it was prior to this year.

that said, last year he was bad. he has to make up for that. he's on the way to doing that but by no means is he there yet.

I actually posted our last encounter against Carlton, which makes three games. The Bombers were thereabouts and made an attempt to make up some lost ground on their current position against us. Cloke changed that possibility within 40 minutes. Essendon were 1-3, while we were 3-1 prior to our attempt to atone for the corresponding game the previous season.

Only hours before he signed too.

This comment might be at odds with almost all thats been posted so far but here goes....

Seriously can we all get real? Play for the jumper? Yes of course I agree 100%. But jesus this is not just a "game" we watch. It is their careers, their jobs essentially same as the boring ones most of us no doubt work except these guys enjoy their jobs. But they are still JOBS.

Jobs that people like Travis have every right to both enjoy AND think about the money.....

Tired of the same old cliched oh play for the jumper and accept peanuts because your so privilaged to wear black and white. No....having said that i hate mercenaries. But i've no problem with a man that loves the club but also wants to get what he feels he deserves.

Whether or not we are falling for Hutchy's crap the fact remains that cloke could win a game off his own boot, but at the rate he is performing.......sorry but a as a key forward how many would throw cloke the ball to kick a goal (and I mean one goal) after the siren if we were down by 5 points?????? I know I would, notttttttttttt!!!!!!! so if it is true travis then hoo-roo!! toodle-ooo!!! or kick some friggin goals if u want the $$$$$ !!!!!

Travis has shown if he is dropped down deep he often kicks bags, but that is now the job of Dawes, Brown and the mids, Travis job is to be a target at CHF and get the ball down to them

But I do believe alot of his bags of goals are in Collingwood losses, showing when he plays closer to the goal the team gets it in there less but his stats are what people want

Most are happy with his 15-20 possession games and 12-15 marks when we are winning...

Re: Who is the player putting contract negotiations on hold?

Only 3 on our list, didak and Swan are signed so yep it's cloke

Any chance they have asked Gavin Brown to take a pay cut?

Bucks or lica possibly?

Am I the only one that sees the positives of this situation? Here are two very valid points.

1, IF, and a massive if, Cloke decides to leave, we'll be re-embersed with a first round pick, and we've shown in the last two weeks, we've VERY capable of kicking goals without him in the side (15 goals and 19 goals), if theres Dawes filling that #1 KPF role, with the assistance of Jack and Brown.

2, I'm VERY glad he didn't sign now. He is currently an uncontracted player, and those players play out of their damn skin because they're trying to show their worth to the football world. Cloke, the uncontracted player, will do a whole lot better in finals than Cloke, the recently re-signed player. Hopefully he'll let his football do the talking, and he can help win us a flag, then we can happily sit and discuss what he really is worth.

He'll stay.. no way will Mick want to get rid of him. Eddie will talk to him Travis still hasnt fully matured.
He even said he loves it here.. he wants to say here.. he has family history here.. just young and like everyone he's money hungry but thats the youth in him.

I would agree with you if we weren't talking about exorbitant amounts of money here. If he was struggling to make ends meet, then fine. But really the difference now is between a BMW and a Porsche. I hardly feel sorry for the guy.

If you were, for example, a lawyer. And you were offered 100,000 more to work for another firm, you'd be stupid not to take it. But, you most probably aren't doing your favourite thing in the world. You most likely aren't making money off the back of people who, at times, are guilt of vicariously living their lives through you. You aren't making your money because people enjoy going to court to watch you. Therefore, you owe nothing to anyone except the person who employs you, in terms of loyalty.

Travis, is making more than a comfortable living, off the back of people who are making a less comfortable living, because they enjoy watching him play football. There has to be loyalty. If there isn't, then he can f**k right off.

I'm hearing you mate :p
Oh maybe Trav just wants to use these finals series to prove how valuable he is to us, i'm all for it :thumbsu::cool:
