Why? I think with certain provisions (only off direct possession, not within the 50m arcs) it would work a shitload better than the nonsense deliberate out of bounds rule we have. Players would try much harder to keep the ball in play, and it would remove any stupid interpretation from the umpires.
You really want to see last touch rule? It would be a disaster! You will have players literally pushed or picked up over the line with the footy. It will take away the great stoppage players from being fully effective and it will slow the game down no end with players kept behind the ball in case at any time their team is the last one to touch it. The game will become ultra defensive again like 5 years ago. This year was the best standard footy I can remember so if it ain’t broke.

Yeah agreed. What frightens me the most about a last touch rule is defender spoils. If a defender makes a great spoil across the boundary should it result in an opposition goal? It's already hard enough for defenders.

There won't be a last touch rule, if anything there will be a last disposal rule. Spoils and stuff will still be fine. But if you kick/handball the ball over the boundary without anyone else touching it or may be a free against your team

It’s a dumb idea, why not bring in an off side rule and get the players to wear bibs. Leave the rules alone.

No chance De Goey leaves. On $800k after the strife he’s been in, he’ll sign no matter what the behavioural clauses.
He will sign, I'm sure of it. I think he would have even signed if with our previous 4 year offer.

I’m very confident.
These are his mates, he’s very close to Bruzzy and he loves the club.
For him to walk away from all of this, it would be a self inflicted blow to his own ego. He’d be acknowledging he believes he’s a lost cause.

Did you actually read any of what I wrote? It is only viable if it is a turnover off direct disposal (I.e. precisely not what you’re saying) and not in the arcs. Otherwise it won’t get up

Should Derek Hine feel embarrassed about what's happening?

Hine was picking blind that draft as were other recruiters. Scored well with McCreery and Ginnivan. Henry is a top 5 talent from that draft sadly we lose him. Not Hines fault. Poulter for Frampton well had Frampton played against Swans I think we are in a GF. McMahon is only bust so far unless you include Chugg.

I'm all for it. If he walks because of it, so be it. He caused enough trouble and brand damage for the return of a few good finals. If he won a flag, that would ease but he hasn't.

Yep. And $800k is still a shitload of money compared to the Geelong stars’ reported wages etc.

Geez why are we now overpaying JDG whilst letting Grundy go. What's the bet we'll trade JDG in 2 years time and look to cover $300k of his salary.

Much rather let JDG go via FA and get pick 17 as a compo. Use the spare salary to sign Tom Mitchell. Keep Grundy and no longer get McStay so as not to dilute the pick 17 compo. Makes us a much better team and might even give us enough spare salary cap space to go after pick 7 and Bowes.

We always overpay when recontracting players and then regret it two years later and look to fire sale. 6 years for Moore and 5 years for JDG at $800k+. Anyone who thinks GW is the Messiah needs to open their eyes. He's making the exact same moves as our previous administration

Swapping De Goey for Mitchell does not make us a "much better team". Mitchell is only a good pick up if we keep JDG.

I do agree that we shouldn't be wavering from our original offer of 4 x 800k though.

A couple of good finals series and we've all suddenly forgotten that this guy isn't the sharpest tool in the shed?

A five year contract is really generous given the position we are in and his previous indiscretions.

If the behavioral cause scares him, I think that speaks volumes. He has no confidence in himself.

I'd rather go backwards a bit next year if it means we get people who are consistent and want to be at the club.

Hey - I come in peace.

We were having this conversation on our board.

To match the offer. You need to match the terms. Which means no behavioural clause.

If you did that. He would stay a Pie. But that defeats the purpose of putting it in place.

Matching Offers

A contract offer is matched if the football payments and ASAs are equivalent under the offer and the contract proposed by the player’s current club. To qualify as a matching offer, the player’s current club must make an offer on the same terms as the new offer tabled by the player including:

• Contract length;
• Base payments;
• Total match payments;
• Total ASA payments;

Total performance incentives based on AFL awards or honours, club best and fairest finish or games played (not including finals). Any incentives for team performance do not have to be matched. A player cannot table an offer to be matched for less than a two-year contract length.
Won’t happen, he would not want to play in front of small crowds, he would be committing career suicide moving from pies to saints. Keep dreaming.

Mitchell is a much more consistent top level performer than JDG. But agree less explosive which might be what we need.

But Grundy is clearly much better than McStay and this would also give us much more room in our salary cap vs paying Grundy $300k to play elsewhere.

How are people criticising the De Goey deal lol? Every team had a star on big money and De Goey is an outright star and our most damaging player. 800k in the space of things is a big deal but he is worth that any team in the comp would be offering that for De Goey. Free Agency is going to make everyone 100k better off regardless. People saying to get Mitchell for De Goey is laughable lol why an earth would you do that? Lastly let's be serious if De Goey wasn't at Collingwood the incidents he has been in would've been extremely minor and no way justified for us not to keep him.

Is McStay a restricted free agent or free?
Free

The criticism comes from an original offer of 2 years at 650k, then he bacame a good boy all of the sudden so we increased our offer to 4 years at 800k, now he wants 5 years without behavioral clauses, can you see any red lights?
