How are people criticising the De Goey deal lol? Every team had a star on big money and De Goey is an outright star and our most damaging player.
De Goey has been a star for 1 and half seasons at best. He hasn’t proven himself reliable enough for a 5 year big money deal.

I get the point you’re trying to make, but they’re terrible examples. Cameron reportedly signed for less at the cats due to lifestyle. Martin’s contract is hefty, but he was offered more elsewhere. Albeit he announced several personal sponsors not long after including some who were also club sponsors.

Grundy from memory was offered a similar amount elsewhere and we essentially matched that offer.
Cameron is reportedly on 900k plus incentives (Fox). People mention the tigers and cats but it's no surprise that the players taking unders there are in the last year or years of their career. (Selwood, Jack R and Hawkins, Cotchin). They're all players wanting one last sniff. All would have made mega millions from their clubs previously.

Expecting players to take cuts to their wages just builds a toxic culture amongst fans imo. I will always have fond memories of Grundy playing for the pies and his wage has no impact on that or his character as a person.

If we let De Goey go and use the cap space on Bowes it’s effectively pick 7, pick 17 and Bowes for De Goey.

Not the worst deal.
Might work out OK for the long term. It's awful if we want to win a flag in the short term.

Richmond players taking unders has been happening since at least 2017 and Geelong has been doing it for years, it builds a fantastic culture. In our case we have an over paid ruckman and a suspect star who seem to want as much as they can get.

If we add Mitchell and Fiorini, we won't even notice JDG gone. We can win the flag without JDG. He was tagged right out of the game on saturday which shows his limitations as a match winner. Can't remember Dusty being tagged out of a final. If we give JDG a 5 year deal it will be a big mistake.
Crows’ play for young Pie; Dees trio face uncertain futures amid rival interest: Trade Whispers

Poulter interest real.

Bit concerned about 2020 class given we're losing four already and that core was supposed to be our future. Chugg, McMahon, Henry and Poulter potentially gone leaving Macrae, McInnes, McCreery and Ginnivan.
We can only hope that the next one delisted is Hine

I think we have to cut our losses. It’s not worth giving out money deals that massively hamstrings the caps future

The club already handicapped this premiership tilt when it chased short term success with the Beams and Grundy deals I hope the we’ve learnt from our mistakes since then.

It shouldn’t be surprising we took a bunch of kids with just ‘okay’ picks in a draft where everyone said it wasnt a good one that we “liked”. Which coincidently aligned with a fire sale

Bad deal. If JDG left, we’d want at least 2 first round picks.

This might seem drastic, but if JDG left we would be in full rebuild mode.

You can’t win/challenge for a premiership unless you have atleast one star/game changer in your team.

Most of the good teams have 2 or 3. Without JDG, I doubt we have any. Maybe Elliot?

Our top-end mid has gone from Bucks to Swan to Pendles to ... De Goey? What a drop-off in talent and professionalism. Swan at least learned from his mistakes whereas De Goey is looking like being a repeat offender for life. What's he doing in Vegas when he hasn't signed his contract yet?

Yeah, I don't know enough about our salary cap to judge that. And noone should be signed at any cost. Ultimately clubs recruiting, and trading decisions need to take into account the short, medium and long term benefits. Personally though, I hope we sign Jordy, as in the short term we'd be significantly worse if he was replaced by a couple of draftees - unless we fluked the next Selwood, Daicos and Judd who were ready to play big roles from day dot.

Take a chill pill, what a load of nonsense, have you seen Sydney's midfield? We would excel with or without JDG

Think we all have a fair idea. Been in the system for 9 years and done sweet f.a. Might be ok for a year or 2 but will go done with the Wells and Beams trade.
Thanks Nostradamus. “We” all don’t have a fair idea at all. Maybe you should head down to AIA and let Wright, Fly & Leppa know what a bad move they’re making? Those of us with a bit of footy nous can see what he’ll bring to the table. Besides, 100% fact you’d never call him a dud to his face, so let’s get behind him rather than $hit canning him before he’s played a game.

De Goey won’t just be replaced with draftees we’ll get Bowes and could still go for a Fiorini or Mitchell.

Our short term flag chances will take a hit but if we’re in a better position long term ill take it. We’ve got plenty of time under Fly to win a premiership we don’t need to overpay for the short term imo.

Sydney’s midfield? Maybe they don’t have absolute game changers, but they have 3 very very good consistent performers in Parker, Mills & Warner. All 3 would be in our starting midfield and I would say 14 other teams starting midfield.

Papley, Franklin & Heeney would be their game changers.
