I’m almost at a point to just turf him now….
We are gonna be going through this circus every time it’s contract year with him…
I hear you.
Just make it a tough business conversation.
Explain to him how he’s a required player, and a suitable trade must be reached for the club to agree. The ball is in Geelong’s (or any other club) court.

Maybe he will be the first player to nominate a club, only for that club to turn around and say no thanks!
It may be phrased differently like “a suitable trade could not be reached”.
But that would still a bit of a slap for Ollie because he’d know Geelong didn’t value him as highly as Collingwood.

Geelong will also know that he’s still not close to peaking, May as well get us to develop him further then try screw us in two years time.

Agree Geelong won’t have the picks and players to offer in return so he will stay, but for testing the waters in this way I’d give him a contract that is 20% less than our original offer.

If they are pushing Grundy out I'd prefer a crap pick and Melbourne pick up all his money. Take the hit and move on.

Sadly, I think we’ll get the crap pick you’re after.

……and will be stuck with a 5-year wages contribution bill as well. 🤣

The problem is no one really wants Bowes. They just want Pick 7. Pretty s**t stuff by GC.

I'm not so sure. If he went to Geelong he'd probably slot in ahead of Parfitt, Bews even possibly Aitkins who has been great this year.

He wouldn't be a guaranteed best 22 player though so it'd be a huge gamble salary wise unless they've got space (in which case, how!?)

If Henry stays (don't think he does) I reckon his manager has done him some favours ahead of his next contract negotiations, provided he does keep coming on developmental-wise.

I think we'd be more likely to make him an offer, early, and make it our best offer, so that he doesn't bend us over a barrel like it appears he's trying to do this time.

Frampton shouldn’t be competing for a spot against Murphy.

Murphy isn’t a key defender, and shouldn’t have been playing as such this year. That’s why the club has obviously targeted Frampton.

I think we will find Howe will struggle next year. Regardless murphy should find a position in the 22.

Admittedly without seeing Frampton play live I'd assume he's either depth to cover any of Howe/Moore/Murphy.

Outside of Kelly who wasn't quite ready (haven't given up on him personally, not yet) and Dean (injured all year) the cupboard was very bare.

Hopefully Frampton can play an intercept style to Howe and go on to replace him in his retirement.

That said he has been in the system for a while without doing a lot so I'm trying to keep my expectations low and just continue in my assumption that he's coming as depth.

Hine has been good at going and getting players to come and play in a best 22 role. What he hasn't been good at is going and picking up players who might spend more time in the VFL than AFL but would be up to it if they're called upon.

Yes, but Frampton hasn't proven a thing. He's nowhere near it at this point.

According to a fair few posters on the Adelaide board Framptons strenghts are his kicking, mobility and intercept marking. He struggled one on one or locking down forwards. As such he sounds more back up for Darcy if he is injured. It seems more likely Dean or Kelly could be the tall other back. At this stage i reckon Murphy gets a game ahead of all 3 of those even if its to play on the big forwards.

Sounds more like a taller Howe replacement actually. Darcy's still a great 1 on 1 defender.

And Howe is definitely reaching the stage where his output is declining that an up and comer can replace him.

He’s had less than a season playing as a key back though, so hopefully there’s room for development in our system.

Personally I see him as the Roughead replacement. Taking the best big key forwards and allowing all of Murphy, Howe and Moore to impact as third man up intercepting players.

Who knows maybe we will try harder to manufacture one of those guys as the loose in defence given the success of Geelong and Melbourne.

Darcy is great at everything but we would like a big lockdown defender paired with him. Have to hope for Kelly or Dean in this role.

Or Kreuger
Or McStay
Or Frampton

Starting to see why McMahon has been moved on, he’s dropped down the list. That said Kelly and Dean are complete unknowns as are the others as lockdown full backs. But there are potential options…

1. They have had strong leadership from the President down to the Team Leadership
2 They are well coached. 4 Premierships, 12 Preliminary Finals, 2 Runners up, missed finals once in last 16 years.
3. They have the BEST recruiter in the business
4. The best culture. You dont read about their players playing up in the media
5. The best hierarchical pay structure. They DON'T overpay their players. No 2/3 year player on $600k, no 5+ year contracts, no American import who couldn't get a game on $550k, no heavily back ended contracts
6 There is no salary dumping because they don't get in that position in the 1st place because their structure is non negotiatable
7. They have a local council that kowtows to the clubs wishes because you don't kill the golden goose
8 They have their own ground
9. Winning and a well run club = destination club
10. They reportedly have over $1m being freed up in the cap due to the retirements of Dahlhaus, Higgins, delistings and some other reported retirements to be announced

I saw Tom De Koning in the Geelong rooms on TV... he was not wearing Geelong gear though (I don't think). Not sure what to make of that.
Tommy was there with a bunch of Carlton guys, but would have gotten access to rooms due to Sam. Paddy Dow and cottrill were sitting with him just behind me at the game

How on earth can the two halves of your sentence be possibly reconciled?
Lol is it really that hard to comprehend a simple sentence? How about this as an example:

Moore switching to Howe in the PF was perhaps the right decision but the outcome was in no shape or form good with McInerney intercepting for goal and Pies end up losing by a point.
