Would love him
However, is he more of need than a young elite mid to support Nick?
What would that mean for McStay (and for Collingwood on the hook for another 4 years?) can he be support? Could he play another role?
What would a fair trade look like?

I don’t know about the above, just posing questions/ thoughts
Wasn't he originally a KPD? He could cover both ends of the field. He could be our Adam Hunter/Brent Croswell.

They really should of "just played him" for a few games this year and rested Mitchell and Adams..

Maybe 3 to 4 games.

Hope he stays ....but if he does

If he played a few senior games and played OK and was then dropped - he'd probably be even more likely to leave.

He's a good forward, but I think he was born to be a multi year All Australian CHB.

Who do you offload to fit him in?... I would love him at the Pies but I do not believe we can afford him.
Based on our recent re-signing spree we either have the room already or aren’t making a move this off-season. If we’re making a play on Naughton it’ll be as a defender and I think it would be post 2024. That would mean no trade cost plus it’s when a host of best 23 players are off contract so we have flexibility to make a move like you said we’d need. Perhaps Howe, Steele and WHE are in their final contracts? There’s your saving for Naughton, but we’d need to find a couple of ground level pro scouted types over the next two off-seasons.

Someone to fill the gap that Pendlebury will leave would be ideal , but nobody playing could do that. Strangely, his influence on our performance this year seems undervalued as everyone is looking at Daicos. Doesn't upset me, but it looks like a bit of football ageism.

That's Nick Daicos. We're just lucky that their careers have crossed over.

That's Macrae. Unfortunately, he's yet to get into the AFL lineup.

I'd love him too, but we might have to wait until he gets to free agency, because the Doggies wouldn't let him go cheaply.
He can play forward or back - according to the Doggies website, he was rated the best intercept mark in his draft year.

Pendles has still got it - he was one of our best last week.

Can’t imagine Naughton would come this year, or else Johnson would have been let go of. Have we seen a quality forward make the move to defence in their prime? I don’t think he comes here to play back line.
Agreed. Firstly I doubt he's coming at all, but if we're so desperate for a key forward like many think, why would we pay mega bucks for Naughton to come over & then play him in defence? 😆

I don't think we are desperate for a KPF. All the talk is of us looking for a KPD.

I think he'd be an AA defender. And basically I'd spend more on KPDs than KPFs as I'd be happy with star KPDs and grunt KPFs. I don't think it'll happen though.
You would think Dogs would have played him as a defender though considering they've needed those more than forwards lately. He looks like he enjoys the limelight of being a forward to me, so I'd be curious if he'd even want to be a defender elsewhere.

After watching Port kick the ball along the ground into the 50, I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes much more popular. It eliminates the need for a KF beast and kills the intercept mark all in one go. We will see much more of this in the future

All the better for our small crumbing forwards.

Where do we get the salary cap space for Naughton ?
We have no players over $800k. If Carlton can afford to keep Curnow and McKay with all their inflated contracts I’m sure we can make room for Naughton.

When they moved him they needed a forward and the youngsters are only just beginning to come through.

I thought Frampton looked good in the KPD role early in the year. He had a great game vs Lynch. But then he was injured, then brought in as a ruck, forward and then dropped. It makes me wonder if we don't rate him back or we just rate Murphy more highly (or both). That we are rumoured to be shopping around for a KPD makes me think more the former though.
