I'd upgrade Markov. AJ probably seeks a trade to Melbourne next year, Begg is cut.

You have moved the goal posts. Talking about kids in their 1st seasons, players outside the best 22 or veterans at the ends of their career is a different group.

They dont belong in a discussion around the merits of top end KPFs. While other characteristics come into consideration nothing is as important as goal scoring ability for top end KPFs. If you dont have them its a problem but not one that cant be overcome

I don't view it as a goal post shift. The same principles apply whether talking about stars or lesser lights of being able to offer more in one area outside of being the final kicker before a team goal.

The blokes we call kpfs have the role of competing in the air, which they perform at a different standard. They also follow up at ground level - to an enormously different standard. Some like Hawkins also compete in ruck contests up forward. Some also spend a lot of time higher up the ground and run back into 50 trying to get uncontested marks. Others lead at the ball very regularly- others dont to maintain a structure. They also block for teammates and present on dummy leads.

Goals might give you an approximation of how much they contribute, but it's very approximate. Even with the top ones, I'd argue that you've got to kick a lot more goals than Hawkins to match what Cats get from his ruckwork in terms of team goals, flexibility and capacity to lock the ball forward

With his accuracy Mcstay could’ve kicked close to 40 goals this year had he had continuity in his football

Got a good run at it in his last 9 games and kicked 17.4 as a result

Definitely capable of more than 1 goal a game average.

Mihocek is miles ahead of McStay. They shouldn't be in the same conversation.

McStay's career best years hover around 1.5-1.8 goals per game. I actually think that McStay is capable of better than that. But that's mainly because the game has opened up under recent rule changes which has swung the balance back towards forwards a little. Goal averages for tall forwards are rising again.
