Spot on but it's good fun trying to work it outProjecting draftees is one thing, but declaring where a player will be in 12 months based off almost nothing? There’s literally no evidence that Melbourne even has interest in AJ, let alone it being a lock that he’ll be there next year.
I mean, who at this time last year could have predicted that Ginni would be traded to the poos and wees after winning a flag with us? 12 months is a long time and unless there’s something genuine to go on, like Adelaide’s interest in Petty, it’s best not to act like you’re predictions are guaranteed to materialise in to reality.
Except he’s clearly not, because he hasn’t put it together in the AFL yet. There’s every chance he could overtake AJ over the preseason, depending on how Ash performs during that period, but until that happens AJ is the incumbent. As it stands, neither of them are best 22 currently, but AJ is certainly first in line if we had to pick today.I think Petty will want out of Melbourne by next year. That club looks set to collapse at any given time.
Reef is ahead based on his final few VFL games. He’s someone that looks ready to play at the highest level.
He’ll do his 3 month ban over the preseason, probably won’t even miss a game. You’re drawing some very long bows here.Melbourne will still need forwards next year, particularly if Sniffy cops a ban. The doping authorities are not known for timeliness (evidenced by Murray, Rioli, etc).
I don't know how anyone can pick it with the talented guys with intensity doubts. Take the Coleman boys - two sublimely skilled kids with oodles of time, but ordinary runners who may have been too laconic. One's just been delisted - the other just about the best player of the finals.I may have missed calculated my talent sums on that way and I might be heading the same way with Moir, lol
You aren’t English by any chance? Whiskeytown, winner of the moral BigFooty posters award90% of your posts are criticism and pot shots
So when I talk about being kind to other people’s opinions… It’s clearly above your station
What’s the opportunity cost on that though? Would rather play Bilbo Frampton in ruck if it came to that again rather than waste a list spot. Unless of course we’re expecting Frampton to be a defensive auto-selection.
Willie Rioli did drugs but was out for much longer than pre-season. Sam Murray did cocaine and was out for much longer than pre-season. Ginni and Bailey’s offences were not on game day so a different body handled them, thus it was much quicker. All Smith needs to do is provide evidence that it was residual in his system and didn’t take it on game day. He’ll have witnesses come forward and get a 3 month ban. If he was looking at longer it would be reported that way. Rioli probably had no witnesses because he was doing a bong at home alone watching Teletubbies, Smith would have been snorting at a nightclub.Willie Rioli did drugs but was out for much longer than pre-season. I'm shocked it made the news. Slow news day.
It's the same situation as Sam Murray. He'll be out for some time. All Smith needs to do is provide evidence that it was residual in his system and didn’t take it on game day. AJ is not the only forward who will be out of contract, and certainly not the best available if you think the likes of Reef are ahead of him already.
He is not a 'young lad'. He is 26, no spring chicken. And old dogs don't learn too many new tricks. But I am happy to hope he can step up to the next level or be a useful Phil Inn.Yep, spot on, For me AJ isn't a young lad but still has heaps of potential and would hate to see him go. First thing for him this off season is to hit the pavement and get himself rock hard fit. Heard he ran a 8min 2k time trial last year, get that into the 6's and he'll be firing and ready to roll
You're confusing different situations (Ginni & Bailey were filmed, not tested), Rioli tampered with his urine sample.Willie Rioli did drugs but was out for much longer than pre-season. So you don't think the club would have chosen AJ to replace McStay if Ash wasn't injured...?It's the same situation as Sam Murray. He'll be out for some time.
The difference is Reef will have opportunity next year. AJ will have less. I believe the club rates him ahead of AJ. Therefore, I expect him to play for some time.
we have too take a minimum 2So we only take one in the draft?

He'd have to go for Stalag 13 one would think.Spare numbers for next year will be:
8 - Bianco
12 - Wilson
13 - Adams
19 - Draper
20 - Kelly (apart from the Ch7 report, haven't seen this confirmed elsewhere)
21 - Ruscoe
27 - Murley
33 - Ginnivan
Has Schultz chosen a number yet?
IMO, he doesn't need any new tricks. He has plenty of those in his kit bag. He just needs to be a more hardened, consistent and determined footballer, which can be instilled into him. That would make him elite. He is not a 'young lad'. He is 26, no spring chicken. And old dogs don't learn too many new tricks. Yes as per Jen's post also.I thought it was 3 minimum… including rookie upgrades ?
With Kelly being punted I would think Frampton is the back up tall defender.
If we had say Cameron and Moore injured at the same time we are short. Frampton would become the ruck/fwd but then we don’t have a back up tall defender.
Having Lycett means Frampton is back up key defender and we are covered in the ruck unlike this season.
Yeah didn’t it end up being a Gatorade sample?Rioli tampered with his urine sample.
Frampton already was the backup tall defender. Kelly was barely in defence in the VFL.
Situation unchanged from last year really. Except Steene Begg McInnes will be another year older and mcStay will return to our 22 after missing out on the GF. Johnson also in the frame to return to the seniors. Point being Frampton doesn’t have to be the first choice backup ruck, and certainly doesn’t have to be a first second or third choice back up forward.
Lycett would be a terrible choice. I’d rather just source a key defender who is better than Kelly. Should be a long list.

Frampton did fine last year if I remember correctly..We still won't have a Proper AFL Ready Ruck as Backup
