A lot of focus will go towards players like a King or Smith but Marshall as that more off Broadway name might be the smart play by us.

36 goals this season, 45 last year and only 26 in October 2024.

Yeah Marshall was the name that stood out for me as well. Mainly because I think King re-signs but also think he fits our model better.

I can't see Sofrinidis playing against AFL bodies.

When you're taking SSP's there are no guarantees. You look for some qualities that can translate to AFL and there will be areas to work on. Sofrinidis hasn't had the benefit of an AFL strength and conditioning program. I'd like to see what he can do with one. Wade's done an amazing job with this team so hopefully that continues.

One thing that concerns me is it’s been mentioned a few times that he’s not a particularly good trainer. If that extends to the gym then it’s little wonder that he’s still so skinny, and I don’t think being in an AFL program will help with that unless he buys in and takes a weight program really seriously.

I guess that's what the pre-season will discover. The footy dept. will get a good look at him and if trains like Sier he won't make the cut.

I agree. Seeing supporters relish another player's injury for any reason is really poor form, imo.
Yep. Can’t deny my first thought was to feel very sorry for him.
That said, the reality is his trade value will likely be less than it may have.
For example, if he played the upcoming year and had a tremendous season, he would command a higher trade value than not playing a single game due to an ACL. It’s undeniable that the trade now comes with an element risk. Possible complications, he may reinjure the knee again, etc.
That said, we will still need to satisfy the Bulldogs with our offer because they will be optimistic he will recover from the injury just as we would be if we recruited him.

Oh I see, so it’s not even faux outage?

The fact that your initial post implied that people, myself included, are that inherently ill willed, without any proof positive, says more about you in my opinion.

C’mon beamsy….clearly we disagree on this. Let’s not go nuclear at each other.

I enjoy your posts and often agree.

But I clearly have a differing view to you on this.

Yes I could go you back….but I’m choosing to move on.
Hope you do the same.

What number do you think Bailey will take next year? 😜😂

He could also extend another year, get a full season in before deciding his future. At the end of the day speculating over the benefit due to an unfortunate incident feels a little off but I do understand the discussion here in relation to the thread. I could understand more so if there was a genuine link to him becoming a Magpie but I think most is speculation due to association.

Fly is big on training well as preparation and that those that train hard and well give themselves the best chance to succeed and win.

I reckon training form and consistency is going to play a big part in who we select. Those that train with intensity and do it consistently are going to be favorites I reckon.

Yep you’re right.
Some Bullies fans think it means he’ll take the security of another contract at the Bullies and sign on early in the year.
Another podcast was suggesting the opposite - especially if he was already unhappy at the dogs.
Don’t get me wrong, I take no pleasure in the poor guys injury, quite the opposite. And I definitely think it’s wrong to think this means we get him heap now.
I was simply comparing his current situation to a scenario where he played a full year and returned to his best for 2021 and without speculating on numbers, how that may possibly impact a trade.

Dogs fans being overly optimistic there. Smith isn’t the kind of player who will need to stay put for security. He’ll be in demand, regardless of the injury he’s just had, and will be paid handsomely on a relatively long term contract wherever he ends up.

Yep. Doedee got 4 years on supposedly good money not yet recovered from his second ACL reconstruction.

Surely Port will lock him away? Be a nice pick up if they flub it.

I keep dreaming we get that Riccardi fella from GWS but yeah. I know, I'm dreaming.

Oh don’t get me started on Riccardi. I have been pushing for him since the year he was drafted and couldn’t believe we traded back in the draft and missed out.

Clearly he wasn’t on our list but I’ve been wanting us to draft some tall forwards for the best part of 10 years now.

Ben Silvagni looks in good condition.

I’d love him to have a great season in the VFL and ask the question of us.

Can you imagine a Silvagni wearing black and white on the MCG?

I saw him play for East Keilor this year in the EDFL and he’s a plodder.
