The end of the 2023 season seems such a long long time from now. Hopefully those small forwards we already have on board get to something like his production and he becomes unnecessary.

It's only a year away that we'd have to start making a play, maybe sooner - not really sure how it works. Personally, I'd be saving money for a couple more years until we have more idea about what we've got and thus what we need to fill.

I just missed the start of what they were saying about Logan McDonald on SEN. Sounded like his manager may have had a healthy offer from a rival club, and they're assuming it's either WCE or Fremantle.

I'm just imagining (hoping) Wrighty's sitting there smug AF rn

Edit just saw someone has supposedly offered him 10 years the Swans would want 4 first rounders from any club publicly that keen.

Maybe Wrighty still salty about Sydney offering Buddy a similar deal...

10 years is a ridiculous length of a deal. You can't keep that commitment. I believe McDonald will move but whether Collingwood has the coin is another reason.

What if he got injured? Hope he doesn't but he could be on your list for five years sitting in the forward pocket of his living room because he injures his knee really badly. Now, that probably won't happen and I hope for his sake it doesn't, but that's why a 10 year deal is pretty dumb.

And I doubt we have the salary cap.

Resigning Moore, Maynard and potentially De Goey as reports indicate… will erode some of the cap gains from last year’s retirements and delistings.

Then there are another 20 off players out of contract at years end… some of whom like Henry and Ginnivan… will likely get a pay rise

Then you’ve got the likelihood that they will go early and later this season sign Nick Daicos to an decent 3-5 year deal extension commencing 2024 when his current deal expires

I can’t see there being big money for any free agents this year

As I've said before, we get cheap service from a bloke who gives his all, gets a few good headlines each year and can turn it on. People may not like him but he's done more good for the club than JDG.

I like Cox but I dont rate him as a AFL level KPF.

Let's be honest they didn't even realise they had to stump up 300k pa for 5 years for treloar even after he was traded.

Hence the AFL arbitration...

I don’t think it’s about whether he wants to stay or not. He’s just backing himself to be worth a lot more by the end of 2024, hence why he wasn’t enamoured by the 4 year deal on offer.

FWIW n daicos is already contracted until 2025, signed a 4 year deal before we even drafted him. Pretty sure we do have to sign up the others like henry, reef etc.

I think (or hope) our cap is ok by now. Think the plan will be to target value recruits and hit the draft for a few years and try and bank future cap by paying 95%. That way in a year or 2 we can pull someone over on a front ended deal and have a few cracks at the trade table. Say what you will about carlton but that's one thing they managed well over the last 5 years or so (pains me to say).
