Agree with you on the Treloar deal but there’s no chance in hell we get two firsts for Grundy - for exactly the same reasons we got dudded on Treloar. Everyone knows we are a forced seller of a player with injury question marks. They also know that we’ve committed big dollars to a McStay deal.

Any potential suitor club will act disinterested and play hardball with us on Grundy, safe in the knowledge that we need to cut him loose and will flinch first in the game of chicken. We have zero leverage. It will be Treloar all over again, unless we can somehow find two clubs interested in Grundy who then bid up the picks to something more respectable.

With Treloar he refused every other club option but Bulldogs. This helped Dogs position.

Grundy has already spoken with 5 clubs apparently, Geelong and Melbourne the 2 front runners.

If I was him of those 2 I'd be going to Geelong he'd almost complete what they are building.

Unfortunately he looks to be leaning to MFC over Port Gws etc.

Nick has another 3 years to run on his contract, but I would assume it has incentives built in so he isn't short changed.

Those incentives still have to fit within the cap. We won’t wait three years to offer him a new deal. We’ll bring it forward for sure, to lock him away safely for the long-term.

Yeah by the time Nicks next contract is up all of the big money people will be gone.

Pendles Steele Howe Elliott Mihocek WHE Grundy as well as probably Adams, Noble and Crisp.

Moore and Degoey will have a year or 2 left on their current contracts too.

The beauty of the Mitchell trade is that we address our most pressing need and provide our current list some time to develop. We may already have our future inside mid group in McRae, McInnes and Carmichael, so I don't necessarily think we need to specifically target another inside mid at the draft - agree a KPF is likely a need as McStay and Mihocek are short term solutions. Your proposal means nine list changes - or an additional 8 changes plus Grundy, I'd be interested in who else we delist or trade in this scenario

I'm talking on field.

They also said it about balta.

Even Carlton people are shocked as his form was not of that of someone you delist.
He is a midfielder and constantly has said he wanted to play midfield, definitely worth a punt. Even if he plays one year in the VFL strictly as a midfielder.
Could also see Narkle as worth a punt 24 has definite upside.

Just do what Geelong do and offer him a great personal sponsor deal with club links outside the cap.

They are the new Visy/Carlton.
I also read they are doing a farming scam with some players, helping them acquire land, cutting tax, and buying cattle for cheap and selling back to the same breeders once fattened for a nice margin..

Yeah his original drafting was as a midfielder but that is where Carlton is stocked up.

I actually didn't even think he was a poor defender, it has to be attitude related but we have a stronger culture and group then Carlton plus the delisting might be the wake up he needed.

Obviously his game would have to change in accordance with our new game style, but I’d back him and the coaches in.

Yeah, I don't get the talk of his play being too lateral as an issue. Our whole team played too laterally last year, but have adjusted quickly. Of course a player with the nous and quick thinking of Mitchell will be able to adapt to taking different options and running different patterns.

So, if Jackson backflips and stays at the Dees, presumably they pull out of the chase for Grundy?

I hope it plays out that way. I don’t like the idea of us making the Dees stronger and subsidising Grundy’s wages for five years. Also, if the Dees are a No, then perhaps we can strike a deal with Hawks which sees us swap Grundy for Tom Mitchell with some adjustments of late picks and dollars. It’s as close to a win-win deal as we could possibly hope for.

Hawks have already stated they have no interest in Grundy

I honestly think Brisbane will beat Melbourne, so Melbourne would he the best option for us.

Melbourne is definitely the better outcome for us. Geelong have ruled themselves out by all reports, but have a lot of other plays such as Hopper going on. Their ability to provide with a reasonable trade would be difficult as you'd assume Hopper would be involved with their First Rounder.

We really need Melbourne to land a huge haul from Freo for Jackson and I think they deserve it. A previous pick 3, with a huge $$ offer Freo that's not really seen for someone of his age. He's not a dominant ruck as yet, but considering what he's doing for his age I think it's clear how good this kid is going to be. I think he's 2 first round picks minimum plus some. While I don't think Grundy's market value is that of Jackson's, I think a first round pick plus something is around the mark, but hugely dependent on the financial negotiations.

I'd prefer to keep our firsts.
Happy to have a crack at the draft and build a great midfield that way. A free agent at the end of 2023/24.
Build around Nick Daicos

Hearing Cal Twomey talk about Jacob Van Rooyen in AFL exchange saying he was injured and illness in his draft year and would have gone higher than pick 19 and is unlucky not to have debuted this year. If Grundy does go to the Dees we should get a first rounder and JVN. He's more of a competitor than Weideman.

Yeah get a KPF and a midfielder.

I'd also look at the KPF who slide later in the draft with one of our 3rds, build a genuine spine in VFL and see which ones make it. More options means more chances of one coming on.

Imo Pies genuinely don't invest enough in developing talls, we have had VFL players over the years filling said roles for us at times or international rookies.
K.Pendles was playing FB for a while there for example, our kpf have for 15 years been ratshit or nothing down there.

Agree - Geelong would 100% be running some sort of rort.

Other clubs would do similar deals via their roterie clubs etc. We saw Gws do it with Scully…..Essendon have found a side job for one of its high profile recruits (high profile at the time).

Geelong seem to always come out smelling of roses.

Matthew Jefferson and Isaac Keeler are looking to be late first early second. Both great above head and really athletic
