We’re probably only going to get a 2nd rounder for Grundy from any other club and also a bill for 5x $300K. Trade him to Hawks in return for Mitchell, their salaries square off and perhaps we get their 2nd rounder in a swap for our third. And we get vital centre clearance support/coverage for injury-probe Adams. That’s a better deal than we’ll get trading Grundy independently. That path will result in another Treloar-like forced sale and you’ll be on here screaming loudly that we got screwed over.

We're getting a first for Grundy.

We got a first for Treloar. We'll get the same for Grundy.

So Grundy most likely going to Melbourne... What do we think they can honestly offer us in trade value?

A 1st rounder and a player.

Imo Grundy too good to lose for a single first rounder to a competing top 4 side.

A) We become weaker for not having him.

B)They strengthen (although I'm not how it will work with Gawn).

C) He is an AA quality Ruck, these guys don't grow on trees.

What ever we get needs to be at least equal value back to us, a sole 1st in the late teens does not provide this.

We didn't really get a first for Treloar. We got a first for Treloar, Stephenson, and our second rounder I believe. It was a disaster of a deal.

In my view we need two firsts for Grundy, even if we need to send back a 2nd / 3rd somewhere in there. Don't mind if it this year and next, or two this year.

Lol we got a late first round pick for treloar and a bunch of picks.

Grundy situation is different as well club has openly stated it doesn't NEED to release Grundy and nor will it effect the deals offered to the current players it has if he stays.

We should have the upper hand here.

What I meant by my comment was that even when we forced Treloar out the door, we still got a first round selection. So we'll get that with Grundy. Problem is Freo are into a semi. And Melbourne likely wouldn't depart with Pick 2 if he went to WC.

First I will say I am against trading Grundy. But if We must and if we are paying a big chunk of salary we must demand a decent trade.
If we are not paying a chunk of salary then of course we can’t demand much in a trade.
But we can’t cop it both ways like we did with Treloar. The money or the pick, Dees

Lmao at Adelaide posters on the trade Board. Apparently Frampton, who they traded in for a 4th round pick 2 years ago, and was a delisting candidate, is now worth a 3rd rounder because that’s what we paid for Lipinski 🤣🤣🤣

Only if we agree to pay at least $300K of his wage and in that case what’s the point of trading him? Such a trade would effectively mean we’re doing a straight swap of Grundy for McStay (in dollars) which translates into a clear on-field loss for us. A well structured Grundy-Mitchell trade with Hawks could be genuine win-win for both clubs, addressing key needs at each.

Yeah I thought we got reemed on Treloar not sure it was a win.

It was basically just a pick up grade from the Stephenson trade.

No.26, No.33 and No.42 in addition to Treloar that is one hefty trade cost for pick 14.

It's not going to be a Treloar like fire sale though. Our cap is in a very different position compared to then, which was the driver of that outcome. Giving up an AA ruck for a player you could realistically expect for a 3rd rounder (per reports) is ridiculous.

Agree with you on the Treloar deal but there’s no chance in hell we get two firsts for Grundy - for exactly the same reasons we got dudded on Treloar. Everyone knows we are a forced seller of a player with injury question marks. They also know that we’ve committed big dollars to a McStay deal.

Any potential suitor club will act disinterested and play hardball with us on Grundy, safe in the knowledge that we need to cut him loose and will flinch first in the game of chicken. We have zero leverage. It will be Treloar all over again, unless we can somehow find two clubs interested in Grundy who then bid up the picks to something more respectable.

Grundy for Mitchell??? Hawthorn wants a third.

So that's a terrible deal.

I'd do Grundy + 3rd rounder for Tom Mitchell + 1st rounder.

However, Hawthorn won't salary cap FREE and Grundy isn't going to a club that will likely not play finals.

Essentially 1/3 of JUH and Treloar for Ollie Henry.

He has attributes that are desirable.
He is very similar to Maynard at a similar age.
At a similar age Maynard wasn't delisted because his off field work wasn't AFL standard, big difference! Matty Lloyd who coached him in the APS said he's not that guy, not driven.

We’re keeping DeGoey now on big dollars and we’ve committed pretty big money to McStay too. Plus Mitchell apparently coming in, also presumably on decent coin. Plus there’s a Daicos or two in need of a contract upgrade. We now have a surplus of ruck/forward options - Cameron, Cox, Krueger, McStay, McMahon - keeping Grundy just isn’t an option. So yes, we are again forced sellers with no leverage and everyone in the recruiting space would know it. Brace yourself for disappointment.

Nick has another 3 years to run on his contract, but I would assume it has incentives built in so he isn't short changed.
