Yes. Take it, please. Make sure we have enough to match a bid for Dib. That kid is a hard at it little Lebo that will play 100 games for us.

Careful you'll get jumped on
:unamused:

We need to continue to collect more picks. There is a kid called Yousef Dib who is an absolute little ferret and will make a very handy small forward. Forget about "5 Possession Hill". Dib is as hard as a cat's head and played some excellent VFL football as a 17 year-old top up ( I believe he was still playing for the Oakleigh Chargers in the

We don’t need to amass picks for Dib. He will likely be a free swing after pick 40.

We won’t need points to match for Dib. He wont get bid on before pick 40 so all we need is any pick after that and we can match. Points are irrelevant.

Herald Sun reporting tonight that Hawthorn are likely to offer more than 1 draft pick to Collingwood to try and extract Lynch

Hawthorn's trade proposal to us for Lynch scribbled out paper-napkin style at the bar:

You should ring Hawthorn and tell them to retain Ceglar lol

Agree - I think GW might need to get creative and make the trade a win for us. For me that means getting in another player (in addition to Lipinski). That might mean involving another club either directly or indirectly.

Hypothetical scenario -

Cox and Lynch both receive offers from other clubs and both players have made it known they want to leave.

What should GW do? Thoughts.
Not sure. Pick up the next best available backup ruck from the AFL or VFL

Use 48 for Lipinski
Dib match is 78

Daicos goes at 3
712 ‘surplus’ - 2nd round pick, as has been stated

Oh I get it - you're trying to say it will equip us with enough points to get Daicos, Dib and somehow walk away with a 2nd round pick.

The only problem is that this isn't a game of Monopoly so we can't just take 5 x $20's (late 3rd to mid 4th round picks) and exchange them for 1 x $100 (2nd round pick) with the bank (another club) just because we want to.

If you want to attack it from the other angle and say we could live trade our way out of pick 27 then that's possible I guess, but the point at which this scenario falls over is that we wont have 8 senior list spots open to use all the other points-carrying later round picks needed to match a Daicos bid at pick 3.

In the end we just can't keep gathering additional later round picks as we wont be able to use them all and they're not worth much in trade even when you try to dress them up as a "bid matching points bundle".

Easiest way possibly - when Daicos does not go at 2, to ignite the deal of pick 27 for a future 2nd.

Less likely - Iff the packaged points are of worth to someone, it would possibly be the equivalent of 570 points, which is pick 33.
Yeah righto, 27 for a future 2nd is a decent chance of happening.

No one is picking up a bag of late picks just because their cumulative value is equivalent to pick 33

I think we'll have 6 vacancies and will thus want to draft a couple more than just Daicos and maybe Dibb. So I'm tipping it'll be about juggling our picks so that we match Daicos and have the best possible still available to use ourselves. If we get them high enough, we might be able to do some downgrades to get a couple of extra future thirds as well, or even upgrade a third into a second, depending on who is left on the board and whether any club is keen.

Sorry, who is a Luke Jackson type on our roster??

Aiden Begg.

Nobody has ever seen him play, so until then, he can be whoever we want him to be ;)

Yes, it will require a bit of fine work.

As has been mentioned, late picks not being used for matching a bid can be useless. We could be left with - 58, 59, 65, 78, 79 and 81.
Someone said yesterday that excess picks don't disappear, they just go into hiding and can't be used for matching, but then would reappear after we've matched. If that's true, the first three wouldn't be useless - they'd come in a bit after the matching and we could use them ourselves to fill list vacancies or trade them for future thirds, as part of a trade you could package a couple of the future thirds to get a future second, etc. A lot will depend on the depth of this draft and whether clubs rate kids who are still available at that stage of the draft - god knows about that - but their might be options for those picks.
