Trading DeGoey for Petracca is a ridiculous idea. It's barely an upgrade. For Petracca to really elevate us to Premiership contender, we need DeGoey beside him.

Trading one A-grader for another adds nothing. Trading some B-graders and picks for an A-grader could add greatly.
Barely an upgrade?

One of those interesting situations where all the parties in a potential negotiation have weak hands, so there will only be a deal if dead rats are swallowed. Melbourne is weak because they have alienated their player. Petracca because he is contracted but wants out. Carlton and Collingwood because they have limited trade capital.
If Petracca is dreally determined to get out he might have to be the first to chow down. His salary would seem give him room for compromise (or maybe a bit of creativity) without seriously damaging his financial welfare in the long term. He's not that different to anybody who wants to leave a job or employer they've fallen out with -- sometimes the compromise of a lower salary in the short term is acceptable.
Collingwood might be the least weak party because (similarly to Carlton) we can choose to do nothing and that would be risk-free. Bracket that with (the rumour that) we are Petracca's preference and we're in a slightly better spot than Carlton.
For that reason I won't be surprised if Petracca ends up with us.
I’ve heard the opposite, he wants to go to the scum I hear

I think the sensible view is to probably look at guys like Peatling, Hobbs, Keane and bring them into the club for low draft capital.

However, I think there is a real opportunity to look at Dan Houston, particularly with the Noble trade request. We are razor thin for proven half back types. I know most will be against trading out next year round 1 selection, but could we get 20 from GC and package that with our future 1st for Houston?

If McGuane is as good as being reported (top 10 pick), I think this is a move that makes sense.
Please not Hobbs. So slow.

This is a really circuitous discussion that your playing devils advocate on so this’ll be the last from me. The only answer is it either won’t get that far or Melbourne cave. HE WILL NOT BE AT A MINNOW CLUB IN 2025.
Unless it’s Melbourne.

You make some sense, however, if we trade next year’s 1st round pick, can almost guarantee we will end the season bottom 3. Seems the way it goes for us.
A strange comment, doesn't that depend on what the return is? And how many clubs with good father/sons coming up have hung onto their first round picks? With the current rules that number is zero, why is that?

The amount of times I've seen "Petracca" and "Carlton" in the same sentence this week is enough to make me want to spew vertically, catch the spew in my mouth and spew it out again.

I can just see it.

Once Carlton get busted out of finals they are pushing McKay out the door.

Why don’t we at least make it interesting and commit to an outcome if a trade goes ahead? I’m happy to have a slab on it for whoever gets it right because the obvious favourite in that case is neither of us are close.

IMO, Connor’s Sports are currently working with Collingwood and Carlton on what the best deal they can offer up is (hence no public comment because they haven’t landed on a position). In two weeks time once Carlton are eliminated from the finals I think we’ll get an announcement that Petracca wants to be traded to Carlton. Between then and the start of trade week Carlton go to work on their player. The crux of a deal is then McKay because they need that forward of centre mid much more than a 2nd KPF with TDK, Kemp and Silvagni as their alternatives.
I'd do the bet if I knew you and it was as simple as dropping a slab over to the winners house.

I reckon he's destined to be at a minnow club - Melbourne or someone like North - depending on how adamant he is about leaving the Dees.

It's an awful lot of persuasion for Connors to pull off - First Carlton or Collingwood. Then a quality player from that club to move clubs - who he probably has no power over. Then Melbourne to take a deal that their fans will be furious about. Even a par deal to us or the Blues will be unpalatable for Dees fans.

Vs

Persuading the party who he has the most sway over - Petracca - to consider more doable options. North will rise and it's not that long ago that they were playng in big games with the highest profile, most marketable player in the game in their stripes. It wouldn't be a disaster for Petracca and North who were into Viney a few weeks ago would pay a king's ransom to satisfy the Dees.

He wants to play at the G in front of sell out crowds.

That isn’t North.

There were actually rumours last year that Melbourne was after McKay. I'm assuming he was being courted by Melbourne rather than the other way around, and the Petracca stuff wasn't around then.

I think this is why the media have been so quick to make the link. And why certain media personnel are cheering for it rather than reporting it as a possibility.

If it gets to or is already at the point of no return, and Collingwood/Carlton aren't in the ball park of what's needed to get the deal done, what do you do if you're the Petracca camp? Other clubs might start looking attractive.
If relationships have truly broken down ( who really knows) then I'd expect a bunch of teams are in the hunt.

I live in 2024 not 1994 so I’ll pop you down for North (🤷‍♂️) and click and collect to your nearest bottle’o via DM if the trade goes through…

Leek Aleer is one to watch for a potential departure from the Giants next year

He will cost an arm and a leg, such a promising talent. Just turned 23, great athleticism and good size, and was playing some really strong footy this season. One I've wanted all year
