Why do you believe we have limited cap space?
Clearly signalling to GC our willingness to take on Lukosious’ $1m contract as a salary dump if they added a pick was a strong indication we have limited cap space :drunk:

Honestly, Stringer would be a nice pick up as the 3rd tall.

I think we could get him pretty cheap and what he would bring to the fwd line would be huge for Checkers, Mcstay, Elliott, McCreery, Schultz and Hill.

That forward line would be a huge headache for teams.

Not every player is perfect, 40 goals from him in our team would be massive.

We are better off focusing on building our second tier midfield in this years trade period , ie- permanent replacements for sidebottom , Mitchell, long, sullivan, lipinski . This should be cheaper picks wise and shouldn't have too much of an impact on our salary cap. We can then target top line mids in next year's FA to replace pendles and degoey( think we just have to accept the fact that we may never get a degoey who will be fit to play at least 70% in the midfield for an entire season) .

I think they will care - he is poison. And JFN has said he'll stay if a trade cant be made.
I think it'd ultimately come down to whether they like him or think he's a knob. Which unlike our opinions would become based on personal experience if he was added to the list.

And if we were limited in salary cap then -

1. If Ash Johnson is on anything above the minimum then you salary dump him.

2. Ditto Finlay Macrae.

You then have Parker, Dean, Markov, Sullivan, Ryan (who will leave), Steene, Jiath, Smit, De Mattia on minimum or close to.
Pretty sure Ryan has a contract-so why would he leave?

Contracted for 2 more years.
We're losing Noble, so we're not pushing Ryan out the door - I don't think we're the type to do that. Especially to a teenager.

At the Hawks game, I was told by a mate (via someone in the club) that Ryan was told to look around for another club.

So I would be surprised if he is at the club next season.
Things change.
In that time he has improved on field even promoted to the emg list, so reckon they're prob happy with him now.

When was he asked to look for a new Club?
I agree he’s improved, and worth keeping.

I was told at the Hawks game - so it was before then. As to how long before I am not sure.

At the time Jiath was selected against the Kangaroos, was Ryan available for selection or was he injured?

It seems like a moot point now Trac has re commit to the dees.
But in regards to his contract fitting into our salary cap, there is always the opportunity to move money around in a contract, even offer a longer contract and back end a lot of the money. We could even extend others on the list to back end some of their deals.
As much as the salary looks huge, good creative list managers can find ways of getting it done.

Senior list spots are pretty tight. If we're trading aggressively like Fly suggests we'll need some list space, especially as it's supposedly a deep draft so we may want to add more than 2 that way as well.

It wouldn't surprise me if he was encouraged out if another club is interested.

What main list guys are going:
Murphy
Noble
Probably Kruegs
Maybe Richards
Possibly Reef

I might have missed someone but a couple of contracted main list guys might be given a nudge - off the main list at least: Johnson, McRae and Ryan the most likely.

I doubt much has changed just because of a few ok games in the VFL and being made an emergency in a game where they were very clearly playing the kids and he still didn’t make the cut.
If he’s still on the list next year then I’d say that no other clubs are interested in him, which is a high likelihood imo.

Its one thing to encourage someone to look elsewhere with 1 year on his contract. Another thing with 2 years.
Unless there is a club that will give him a 3-4 year contract. He'll back himself in.
With losing Noble, we'll need more defenders. And he's only a teenager who had a rough year with injury.

We’ll soon see, but I’d wager that if he stays it’s more likely that no other clubs had interest. Which wouldn’t surprise me, he’s as vanilla as they come.

He's also only played 1 game, so doubt anyone would come with a longer than 2 year contract. He is better off staying.

He'd probably get more gametime with Richmond or Adelaide.
I think he will struggle with us.

He is only 19, with howe at the end of his career and Noble on the way out
We'll wait and see how he goes in the next 2 years.
He'll get more opportunities soon enough. Another pre-season will help.

yeah I had overlooked that he is still so young (still a teen, Jen says) but even before he got KO'd on debut I had not seen too many elite traits. I feel like a potential HBF of his size needs above average pace, sticky hands/sure ball-handling and damaging ball use. We need him to be a line-breaker (especially if Noble goes) and I am not sure he has that in his arsenal. Wonder if he has the gut-running ability to be some sort of wide-ranging link man. Anyway, he maybe has another year to show what he has got

Thought I might add my 2 cents on how we should go about this off season and our list. Trying to be as realistic as possible.

Trades:
Pies Give: John Noble
Suns Give: Pick 20

Pies Give: Joe Richards and Pick 48
Port Give: Pick 37 and Future 3rd Pick (2025)

Pies Give: Ash Johnson and Pick 37 (from Port for Richards)
Crows Give: Mark Keane

Pies Give: Pick 32
Bombers Give: Ben Hobbs (Hopefully he requests a trade to us)

With pick 20 draft a key position forward (ideally one of the Whitlock brothers)

Try trade Reef McInnes for future 3rd and 4th round (2025) picks next year to get points for McGuane. If a deal can’t get done give Reef a rookie contract.

If Suns delist Alex Davies try recruit him as a delisted free agent

If Saints delist Jack Hayes try recruit him as a delisted free agent

Keep Long, Dean and Bytel all on the rookie list for another year

Give Kreuger a 1 year deal

Delist: Sullivan and Eyre

Don’t disagree however the Pies are more into Peatling for future mid replacement than Hobbs

I wouldn’t be surprised if GC split 6.
Suns will take pick 6 to the draft.
Lombard is tipped to go between 8-13 so no way the push back into the draft only to match a player pick for him. They will get 2 elites with 6 & Lombard . Only potential trade out of pick 6 would be a slide to say 10 if they still feel Lombard will be on the board.
Picks 13/20/26/34 ( Lackosiois pick ) will be used for Noble/ Rioli . Then they will trade if anything left into next years draft as they have 5 x AA academy players to match for 2025.

Ryan has next year to establish himself unless we trade him. Needs to consolidate himself next year either way. He has plenty of talent but like most of our younger players, the development is slow. I hope we're able to spend more on player development next year

After seeing Lombards highlights, I would almost take him at pick 6
