I guarantee you that if Carlton is able to score Petracca next year, you can mark them off to play against Brisbane in next year's grand final.
He is a point of difference that Carlton don't have. He would make them much more dynamic. What do they have to give up is the question? Hopefully Petracca to the Pies in 2026 ;)

Can I suggest we give it more than one season before declaring that we made a mistake by taking Harry Demattia over Logan Morris. I mean don't get me wrong Logan Morris has had a great season. But maybe we should give Demattia a chance before we decry Hine drafting him.

Don't forget Jayden Stephenson once won the Rising Star award easily and there was talk off the back of it that we got a steel and he might be the best in that draft (and I believe his draft year included Brayshaw, Rayner and I think Naughton).

We’re not hanging it on Haz, nor is it a mistake at this stage - he may be a jet.
The drafting philosophy is at question
We could have had both if we wanted both

Edit: I’ve watched Haz a number of times this year - the kid has talent

These are pointless discussions - 17 other teams also passed on LM.

Sure. But I'm just not sure why Port would be interested in giving us Houston for a guy who won't be playing next year.
Just responding to a port fan who brought his name up.

I hope the AFL are onto this because the gap is going to be ridiculous in a few years.
It’s at the point where they really should be limiting it to one bid match per year, and they’d still be getting a massive advantage compared to the rest of the comps NGA and FS prospects.

Gave his post draft run-down
Talked about who they took and why - just took Haz bc he was next on the list
Said they had organised trade w Richmond to move up to grab Morris if he made it past WCE + Lions
  • Morris clearly a list need and played a fantastic TAC final
  • was there at our first
  • if we really wanted HDM, it would have been so much easier to move up for him
  • just dumb dumb dumb

It reeked of smugness and lacked foresight

I think you can still find the vid on CFC website
I don't really get the issue. They were both needs. HDM, if he makes it, was drafted to play most of his career post Crisp, Sidey, Pendles, Titch, WHE and even JDG - his player type in a draftee is just as much of a need as Morris's. If you rated him higher of course you take him first and I don't know why you think he would have been less likely to make it through to richmond than Morris.

It's looking like rating HDM higher might have been a mistake, but plenty of water to go under that bridge before that's decided. Even though we didn't get him, rating Morris as highly as we did is looking like a tick to the recruiters rather than a cross.

The under 17s were embarrassing this morning. Best 6 players were academy picks, no one will be able to compete soon

Brisbane and Sydney shouldn't be allowed Academy players anymore. They have father sons coming through now.
They’ve always had father sons though, as Fitzroy/South Melbourne players were FS eligible.

When it comes to the academies, the AFL's two big overarching aims are competing - growing the game and running an equitable comp. The academies are clearly part of a great job in terms of growing the game with so many of the top kids now coming from the rugby states. **** knows which aim the AFL prioritise, but it looks to me like it's growing the game at the moment.
They can do that without giving those teams such an unfathomably large advantage though.

Bailey Smith can piss off with the **** teasing

Taking photos with Nick at the GF knowing full well he’s picking Geelong
He’s allowed to have friends that aren’t Geelong players, stop being childish.

FMD, I love your commitment to what we do NS, but imagine questioning any of our staffing or processes in trading and drafting if it makes us better

The point isn’t about the player, it’s about the process

Your statement needs context, he was never going to go top 10 so these clubs didn’t “pass” on him
Further, I couldn’t give a ____ what other clubs do.

We had an interest in him, and he may turn out to do nothing in following seasons, but it doesn’t justify how we go about it.

You seem to think I don’t like players, or the club, I love them all.
I hate what our processes have been since winning the flag. I feel like we rocked up straight from mad Monday.

I hope Haz becomes a legend
I hope Schultz kicks 5 in a gf
(But his 2 goals against Lions didn’t emphatically justify the trade as you claimed after the match nor that he won the game for us - Nick had 42 / Q a game-saving tackle / Beau a brilliant roving goal to put us up)

We’re all on the same team here so surely we can discuss civilly what’s going right and wrong in all points of our club (regardless of whether we’ve just won a flag or at the bottom)

We’ll have disagree on this one, SR
That’s ok

Are you sure about that? Do we know that West Coast and Brisbane would have let Demattia get through to the pick we were looking to trade into for Morris?

Sam Edmund saying we’ve got Perryman. Him and family are all diehard Collingwood supporters.

Port are offended Carlton aren’t offering Pick 11 and are going to give a future first and Matt Owies (Lol)

We want Lord, Port want him to stay. Nothing new.

Trade radio starts Monday!
Good, I need some new tyres...

Also has one of the strongest work ethics going around and you can just tell by watching him go about it that he's going to leave no stone unturned trying to get himself up to the required level. If he doesn't make it as an AFL footballer in the long run then it's not going to be because he didn't try to squeeze every drop of effort out of himself, that's for sure.
