Other players have nominated clubs they want to be traded to who are still playing in finals.
I know. But many others wait until their club of choice has finished their season in order to avoid distractions. There’s no hard and fast rule to it, but it happens a lot.

Dogs will demand a lot.
Maybe Geelong's current and F1, maybe even ask for their 2nd rounder too.

No doubt the media will paint the narrative as a player who has been battling personal demons, recovering from injury, needs a fresh start and what better place than a club like Geelong. Where he can connect with mother nature and be closer to Cotton on Clothing.

His mullet will blend in seamlessly into the town and he won't be noticed.

Match made in heaven.

Ok that’s just nonsense, Smith is a good player but two firsts (even late) and a second rounder is far more than he’s worth at the trade table. For context, Geelong got Cameron for 3 late firsts with two second rounders coming back their way. For all intents and purposes you’re valuing Smith in the same ball park and he’s not even in the same stratosphere as a prime Cameron was.

I know. I reckon a late 1st is more than enough. Maybe a 2nd at most.
Hasn't really has a good season since 2021.

Too risky to nominate one club then? If the Dogs don’t feel the deal is suitable for them then they might look at other clubs?

It will get done though sadly.

Surely we're working with Gold Coast to get 20 out of them to try and pass onto the Dogs for Smith?

Its clear we have turned out attention elsewhere in recent times, so we've moved on from Smith.

Yeah , but people raised eyebrows also when they announced hawks as a destination. If anything it would be off putting to the current players in respective teams whose position would be up for contention by new comers.

Im unsure what Hawks were doing letting those players announce them as the destination
You wouldn't think it would have been the ideal finals preparation for guys like Scrimshaw and Frost - but perhaps it's a bit of extra motivation?

20 will turn out to be 25 plus with bids and FA compo.
geelong can still offer more
Maybe they'll throw in Parfit, who is looking for more opportunity.

Yeah thats also one way to look at it for sure. But agree wouldnt have been ideal preparation for their mindset

I'm more meaning that surely BAZ is worth a lot more than Jonny - not just a few picks higher.
Oh for sure. Which is why dogs would want more than Geelong's 1st pick, would be a few more picks thrown in. But prob not to the extent of 2 1sts.

But Johnny has the benefit of being under contract. And some say pick 20 is hopeful as it is.

The Dogs can’t trade Bailey Smith anywhere without his consent. So if he nominates Geelong the Dogs must deal with Geelong unless Bailey agrees to another option.
