I hope every last person who considered that a good idea is in favour of recruiting Membrey
Without being a smart arse, why does their opinion matter?
Regardless of the comparison to Farrant, I’m a fan of bringing in, (UFA) Membrey.

As a forward that consistently averages over 30 goals for a low scoring side like Saints, his stats definitely seem worthy of a moneyball UFA acquisition.

Coincidentally, looking at his stats on the AFL app, it seems like he shrunk from 190cm to 188cm from 2020 to 2021 onwards. Damn. Doing the reverse Murphy.

So we're recruiting a 184cm shortarse? Pass!

Restricted free agency contracts can’t be torn up, the AFL put that provision in place when Sydney offered Buddy his enormous long term deal. Every cent of the deal must be paid.
That's not correct. The contracts can be varied/cancelled, but the total of all the RFA contract payments must go to that team's salary cap, whether paid or not.

What happens if an RFA is later traded? Does the whole amount still go on the Tigers salary cap - even if a big chunk of the salary is paid by a different club - or just the gap?

Good question - not sure. I think the rules are that the whole lot would go to the Tigers cap, but you'd imagine the club would ask for cap relief if there was an on-trade. I will check.

There are two principles in play - 1, make the initial RFA agreement a genuine one that the previous club chose not to match, 2, don't restrict player movements

So Hardwick went overseas and went to the Suns

Wright went overseas and never returned

Petracca is going overseas and ...........

IIRC JDG went to the Red Bull camp, and it was during that trip we had dressing-gown-gate and he ended up in the New York lockup overnight.

Will the wholesome Petracca get up to similar shenanigans? Let’s see.

Collingwood kicked the tyres on Stringer, but eventually decided he was not the player for them
There are knocks on his defensive pressure, his consistency, and whether the goals come against the strongest of his opponents.

Future 2nd should get it done haha
I know Kane is only talking hypothetically - and there has been no intention from Sam or Geelong himself he wants out (understandable given they are still heavily in contention atm), but if he really is available he should absolutely be the player we target the hardest this offseason.

24 year old, 200cm KPD is arguably our most pressing need - and slotted in next to Darcy and Howe improves our backline immensely in 2025. Beyond that at 24, he's also the future leader of that backline post Darcy as the main pillar back there.

I can't believe Geelong would let him go unless he's already told them he's going. A very serious talent who I don't want going to Carlton
I dunno how accurate his mail is, but he stopped short of saying take it to the bank, however he barracks for Carlton so he lacks some judgement.

I don’t want him to go to the scum either.

I suspect the AFL would want to sign off on it to ensure there was no tampering and that any FA compensation was allowed for.

But I would think that any employment contract could be cancelled by mutual agreement

Membrey. Come on down boy. 2 year deal. already has the Tatts to fit in
I really want this to happen but don't tell anyone else. It's a no brainer for me. Very hard working, strong hands and kicks goals. We don't want him as a KF, I want him as an offensive third tall.
