Yeah whilst referencing 300 times that hes a 'half back" thats being offered "crazy money" after "never having a top 3 Best and Fairest finish". Salty Richmond w***er can never write a rational article about us without a few sneaky jabs

For the rest of this career (if he goes to Pies), every time Perryman is mentioned by Ralph and other special journos you will also get a breakdown of how much they think he is being paid.

6 year deal Jon Ralph says
Both Port and GWS offered 6yr terms too so it’s not like we went over and beyond.

Probably helped that he was a pies fan growing up and a lot more stable knowing that Fly will be here longer than Ken.
The added lure of midfield minutes also helps

I’m not too worried about the money reported. There’s always a media tax that inflates the actual contract.
They also have no idea what we can actually afford, or the ways that we can structure the deal to reduce the impact of the extra money that's functionally a free agency signing bonus.

Remember the melts when McStay was signed? That contract is chump change now pretty much.

I think it's fair enough for Pies fans to be wary of long term contracts given our history. Particularly in this case because this Perryman is not a star player. I understand it's the going rate, doesn't mean I can't be a little nervous. 6 years is decent stint.

Edit. HS now saying 7 years.

I enjoy the fact we went after someone and they chose us.

I mean, imagine being North and going after ten players each year and getting no one.

Out of curiosity when has this ever happened? Let alone on a consistent enough basis for there to be a “media tax”.

The journalists get this from the clubs that have either missed out or are going to miss out (in the case of Perryman probably the Giants). It’s a small industry that publishes the contract payments of the top 100 paid players every year. The numbers and terms being bandied about for these guys by the media are at worst in the ballpark there’s little to no mayo in most if not all reported cases.

The accuracy of reporting FA moves is doubly important because of the restrictions on restructuring the contract after the fact.

Perryman as an unrestricted free agent is the silver lining. No draft cost, just salary and with 25% increase circa $800k salary is equivalent to $600k - its still slight overs for me but you need to pay overs to get them in. Good move by the club.

Assuming we will head to the draft and do deals on Noble and Richards and see if we can snag anyone else. We must have a KPD in our sights - hoping we can pull a rabbit out of the hat here.

Doubt we are any chance to land Houston given what Port will want for him.

HS says 7 years at $850k

Never believe the reported dollars

Those numbers are always wildly inflated

Players joke about them all the time in interviews and show appearances

If you were to believe the numbers reported by footy journos, you’d think every clubs cap was eleventy billion dollars
