CORNES ACCUSES AFL CLUBS OF TROLLING HIM
Renowned critic of AFL long-term contracts Kane Cornes has accused AFL clubs of trolling him by continuing to sign players on lengthy deals.
Cornes has ardently opposed clubs signing players to long-term deals for several years.
This week alone, St Kilda announced Max King had inked a contract extension until 2032, while Richmond re-signed Noah Balta on a seven-year extension.
On Friday morning, Cornes said he was convinced AFL clubs were trying to annoy him.

Hows the nerve of this flog.

Need to grow a thicker skin in this industry. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

The way he’s going he’ll be living on an island soon.
He’s insulted the northern states this week re the NRL, they’d arrest him at the border.
Might be broadcasting next yr for CH7 from Kangaroo Island.
Thou might offend the natives there…

After some big time catch up efforts, first time I've been up to date with this thread all week. I would have caught up earlier but too easy to get distracted by basking in the salt on oppo boards.

I think Ralph absolutely bungled the reporting of that claim about Pies not wanting Pick 13 being split yesterday. I wonder if its just ineptitude or if he deliberately tries to portray us in the worst possible light?

That being said, I reckon the basis of Ralph's tweet would be true. Except the scenario wouldn't be us trying to stipulate how Port uses pick 13. It would be trying to get Swans included in the trade.

E.g. if Pick 13 does get split, why not make Swans part of the main trade so that we can also extract some value out of 13 being split too. For instance, potentially a 2024 2nd rounder from Port could back our way.

The trades are good medium term options.

But Houston is 28 for most of 2025 AFL season and Perrymen is 26 this DEC.
Houston is YOUNGER than John Noble. Making this move would make the team YOUNGER. Saying that someone who is 27 and 4 months old is "basically 28" is a ridiculous way of talking.

Perryman is less than a year older than Joe Richards. The point of comparison SwanBet was making remains.

It's not like we're literally not going to use any draft picks, we're just trading to get a better player, and then we'll draft later in the draft. If we pull out any AFL talent from one of those late picks than we've effectively lost nothing.

People on KI are good people. They wouldn't want that flog over there

Excatly. Carlton supporters have gone from "27yo Dan Houston" to "Nearly 30yo Dan Houston" in the space of a week. He's 10 years younger than Pendles! Only a baby

A 35 year old Zorko absolutely revitalised Lions season when he was put into a similar role we'd have Houston in

23 is a 1st Rd pick. Our aim is to retain that one so whilst we’ll never hold two technically 3 will be involved.
Honestly, it's Dan Houston. Hand over pick 23. We're trying to convince a club to let go of a 2x reigning AA that's still contracted for 3 more years. Just give them the pick 13, 23 and Richards. Maybe we can ask for 39 back. We shouldn't be trying to play hardball here.

In the meantime, where we should play hardball is with GC as they're the ones trying to pry a contracted Noble from us and willing to give up pick 6 plus more for Rioli.

What makes people think the trade will happen today? The AFL have been waiting for a blockbuster trade like this for years. They'll milk this for all its worth and will make it go down to the last 5 minutes.
