Nah he’s not. I remember there being debate around his size in his draft year, quite a few people saying he wasn’t tall enough (which is nonsense obviously).

I think the issue is that he’s another who, like Liam McMahon, needs to be able to run and jump at the ball or he’s no chance at all. Tall flanker at AFL level.

At the point we are at now draft and dfa wise we are probably looking at role players to compliment whatever game plan we come up with.
Look at our 25 best 10 say Moore Degoey Daicos x2 Hill Maynard IQ Crisp Cameron Houston and a game plan will formulate around their strengths. With players who can play a role.
Looks like quick ball movement with a focus on contested ball (may not necessarily have the pace of 23 but long kicking to 1 out players maybe the go)

We will focus on key position according to leppa so depends who is on the board

What is the consensus amongst us Pies fans with regards to the Membrey acquisition? I really like the idea as it gives us a heap of versatility and depth.

With Houston, Perryman and Membrey I really feel like we are a top 4 team in 2025. The catalyst will be staying injury free and with Membrey, I can see guys like Elliot, Mihocek and Cox being rested throughout the year.

A great inclusion IMO.

He's a good mark, accurate kick for goal and is pretty durable and versatile.
His durability probably got him the nod ahead of Hayes, who has an unfortunate injury history.

It’s a good pick up imo. Gives us some much needed extra marking power and is an accurate shot which was a big issue for us this year. I’ll be surprised if he’s not in the round 1 side.

Who does he replace up forward? WHE? Similar role

I wonder if they can sign Hayes to our VFL program, manage his rehab and consider at mid season draft?

Prob not if we draft a key forward
Also we don’t have a spot for msd unless there is a season injury
Which is possible but not something you can bank on

Is he depth? Or can he genuinely displace one of our forwards (if everyone is fit)? If so, which one.

I simply don’t see how a specialist forward who is essentially a lock for 30-35 goals a year can be recruited for depth

I think it might be a horses for courses thing, I have him as AFL quality depth that can fill a role or gap but wouldn’t be surprised if he worked into a best 22 scenario. He could even replace Cox if we went smaller with chop outs in the ruck from others. He offers some versatility but he’s not getting younger so it will be an interesting watch.

Yeah if we go with one ruck we can do it but otherwise — will be interesting to see the forward structure in preseason

He will be delisted by the Saints, you would think he’s played his best football already but quietly hoping there’s more in him once he pulls on one our jumpers. I think versatility and opportunity is key with Membrey.

Our options as a forward group (assuming everyone's fit) will be harder to match up on for oppo teams that they've been in a while.

Membrey, McStay , Checkers , Hill , Elliott, Schultz, Beau etc......a very dynamic/flexible group.

The addition of Houston/Perryman will hopefully get some better quality entries happening too....either directly or indirectly.

Yep. Wilbur can play anywhere. Our Swiss Army knife.

I think that’s right.

A lot will depend on if they make it 5 on the bench but it wouldn’t surprise me if WHE goes to a wing and it’s a Sidebottom or Lipinski that makes way. At this stage I’m unsure if Sidey is best 23.

There’s a lot to come back into that team and then adding Houston, Perryman and Membrey makes it even more interesting.

We're not getting him at his best (2+ goal per game sharpshooter), but his 2024 season would have had him =1st in our goalkicking in just 19 games. And that was in an ugly, stodgy defensive Ross Lyon style.

He is definitely still capable of 30-35 goals for a couple of years I reckon.
