The locals used to put Redfin in their dams. Take care of themselves, breed well, good eating I’m told.
They’d escape into the natural waterways and out compete the others.
Not allowed to now. They’re classified vermin.
Yabbies and turtles in my damn. Sometimes a border collie.

Very much so. In my top 5 eating fish.

The locals still add reddies to their dams when they catch them. Worst decision ever made to call them vermin. Not every introduced species is vermin and reddies cohabitated well with native species. Carp on the other hand….

Bro…

Hollywood moved a few doors down from their original spot with the sunken arcade and then closed during/just after covid

Where you been

I grew up in coolaroo from when I was 4-5 until I was 19
Nice! I actually live in Dallas, but no-one knows where that is, just go with Broady instead. Went to Holy Child.
My father in law lives in the same street Eddie grew up in. I saw Eddie going to his parent's place one day, I really wanted to say hello, but thought better of it, privacy and all that.

I had many a beer at a pub in Dallas, by memory it was called the Penthouse?

Yeah I used to say Broady too, because not everyone knew of coolaroo. Dallas when we used to do our shopping (also where I was a rebel when I was 12 and did a bit of shoplifting in what was then called, Franklins, unless mum caught us). There used to be a swimming pool up that way.
I used to do my athletics in Dallas.

I went to St. Dominic's Primary - Eddie was in the same class as my sister - nice story, my sister and I went to the Footy Show once and at the end of the show, my sister went up to the stage to say hello, they hadn't seen one another for more than 20 years and Eddie greeted her by name and they reminisced - couldn't get over that he'd remember her so well, despite the years.

I'm a Jacana boy - tell everyone I'm from Broady, if I say I'm from Jacana people invariably ask: where's that? - best to keep it simple
I always viewed Jacana as the rough area lol You don't want to be hanging around there too long.

I'm an old yabby stealer from local dams. I've been known to put a few in and have myself an endless supply of free yabbies
Is poacher the correct term?

The old man used to do it religiously for most of his life.

In hindsight I do wonder if the farm herb/pesticides were a causative factor in his early passing (plenty of other options in that field mind you!). I reckon if you’d warned him about the dangers he’d have preferred to eat the yabbies and damn the consequences such was his love of a huge feed of yabbies.
