I'd be pretty rapt if we somehow got Tomlinson too. Can play on a wing or as a lead-up forward like Tom Lynch (Adel) does. Can be a 3rd forward, can play back... just a very useful, skilled utility that could (& likely would) fill a number of spots in our 22.

Agree with that and he would make Goldy as a depth player

Who gives a crap what it is in points terms from our end? We have no father/son prospects so points are irrelevant to us.

In a shallow draft, two picks in the 20's is fine for Aish. We won't get a player close to his quality for either of those picks, and it gives Brisbane points for their academy boys and trading currency for Bell. Sounds like a win/win to me.

Maybe it has something to do with me not rating Aish that highly? The points, IMO, are a good basis for a starting point because it's a trade with a club that has academy players in that 1st round bracket in Hipwood and Keays. I also hope that the club see the points as something we can exploit unlike yourself...

The other element is that with Sidebottom, Crisp, Broomhead and soon to be Treloar in our system we have a number of guys that offer more than Aish in their different ways. Overall regardless of draft depth I don't see the need to overspend on a guy that will be on the outer edge of our best 22 and I'm certainly not keen on Collingwood helping Brisbane secure Bell's services in any way just as Collingwood weren't keen to involve Brisbane in landing Greenwood.

I get that some on here are keen and would accept the club going to decent lengths to bring him in, but I just don't see it for us. For instance if I were Melbourne I'd chase him hard because he is exactly what they need to compliment their grunt players. Something like 25 & Toumpas could conceivably get it done for them and be a better outcome for all involved than us gifting Brisbane two second rounders, IMO.

Do you think Collingwood would give up a 1st round pick for 24 and 26?
People on here would be calling for Hine's head
West coast did it with us 2 years ago ? It's the same idea really we gave what pick 11 and 28 for pick 6, the way it is the same is that your still getting the player you expect to.

It's pretty clear that he wants to leave hence still remaining unsigned.

He may well end up staying at Brisbane but despite their "confidence" it's an absolute long shot.

With the Treloar deal to be done early in the piece, there will be plenty of time to work on the Aish trade.

I just think it is very difficult to work out how good Aish is. Obviously did well in his first year finishing 4th in the rising star. Did he not have his heart into it this year because of the lions environment or that ordinary coach and captain? Or has he failed to continue to improve? Not sure.

So if you are sitting with say pick 7 and Carlton fronted up and said "we want to trade 23 and 26 for your pick 7" are you saying you would agree?

If we had a father son expected to be bid on around pick 5 and we had say pick 10 not 7 (because 7 is worth more than 24 & 26) then yes you would.

It's about using the points system to your advantage in these situations not the picks themselves.

With GWS and the points thing it comes down to how many players they intend to draft, remembering that 2 of them are academy players and that GWS are having to reduce their list size.

If they only intend to take say 3 players then points value may be more important to them than position in the draft.

In this instance the 2 academy players will be acquired with the points traded in and GWS' later picks while the Giants first pick will select the 3rd player.

That's the sticking point for me.

I didn't like his lack of development this year and if it was because he didn't want to be there well that's just unprofessional. Dangerfield was always going, but he puts up his best season at the Crows.

Therefore whilst I think he's talented and has proven he's at least serviceable at the top level I'm not keen to move on him with picks that could be used to our advantage elsewhere.

Ultimately I'm open to bringing him in (unlike Kreuzer, Varcoe, Russell, Armstrong, White etc.) he's just one I'd like it to be at the right price whereas Treloar I'm comfy with overreaching on.

That's a good point. In the instance that they want to draft 5players, they're probably looking for the best available picks. And would prefer two first rounders instead.

If you look at my thread on the Drafts board, look at the OP I"ve nailed it from way out back on the 26th of June IMO, Aish will chose Collingwood, Lions will hustle and bustle, but I don't think they'll settle for a second rounder, and they won't get two second rounders off us.

There'll be chest pumping and hustle and bustle, already Matthews has stuck his chest out, and perhaps burnt bridges and much hope of Aish staying, his comments played into Collingwood's hands.

I believe after much hustle and bustle, the player who will be traded for the right deal as BEEG stated will be Oxley, but they will have to compromise to get him. Oxley got 2 brownlow votes in a rookie season (?) and in my view he was BOG in the Melbourne QB game. He should have had 5 votes. Aish is still the better prospect but not a great deal better. It won't be a straight trade, it'll be Oxley plus pick 26 for Aish and pick 39 perhaps a better pick thrown our way pending what they get for other player exodus.

Brisbane more then welcome to keep him if they think they can get two second rounders or a fair deal under the circumstances, we'll enjoy the fact that he wants or wanted to play for Collingwood. Many will also enjoy the constant media speculation of whether he stays or goes, to an extent. A big part of me will feel sorry for him, he wouldn't deserve such media speculation as he has rights that in this instance should have been adhered to, many will also feel the same way.

And the Brisbane Lions would be a footy club with the stigma of having no integrity, being a bunch of hypocrities from top to bottom inside out. Hypocritical, contradictory behaviour is not the way to run an organization going forward, you need to build a club based around foundations of ethics, integrity, honesty and culturally it'll be a terrible move to keep Aish. Also, Aish is said to be a person of a high social conscience, another reason for his want to move to Melbourne, he would be right in recognizing the unscrupulous behaviour of the Brisbane Lions hierarchy.

Either way, we can't lose, we will get Treloar AND Tomlinson, Aish a mere bonus, the angst from Lions supporters over a player who'd be on the fringe of our best 22 is such popcorn stuff.
