Terry Wallace just stated on trade radio that you can in fact trade out both 1st and 2nd future picks but you can't trade out future round picks in two consecutive years.

Can somebody confirm?

If that's the case, then:

GWS Gain: 2015 1st rounder, 2016 2nd rounder
Brisbane Gain: 2016 1st rounder
Collingwood Gain: Adam Treloar, James Aish

Simple

I heard that, but someone put the actual rule up, and that suggests Wallace is wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

It's only open bidding if Treloar gives it the go ahead.

Gubby can talk smack all he wants, it's just lip service to appease members and show they arent to be messed with.

Would be interesting to know what we've offered and what GWS expect.
Unfortunately I don't think its for the members - I think its for the Board and the Executive - something tells me the reason we are struggling with GWS and Brisbane could be as much about the noise we made this year in relation to COLA and the apparent luxury being provided to northern states in relation to Academy picks. I could be completely wrong and this may all be a bit of a coincidence but I wonder what good a phone call to mend relations might achieve because this posturing is achieving nothing other than helping speed us to 1000 pages. I noted this thread has now gone over 1,000,000 views.

Send our first rounders this year and next for Treloar and GWS' second rounder this year.

Second round picks for Kennedy (Melb), Seedsman (GC) and Freeman (St Kilda).

That gives us 5 second rounders to play with.

Package two and send them to Sydney for #14. Offer #14 + Oxley for Aish. If Brisbane don't play nice, take #14 to the draft. Weideman territory.

Offer another second rounder to Hawthorn for Anderson.

Use the last two second rounders in the draft. Place priority on Rioli.

Also, pickup Mitch Harvey DFA.

We replenish the majority of our key needs with potential high level talent instead of bandaids, in one draft.

In a situation like that, we won't need Howe or Saad. I wouldn't want them either.

We won't get a 2nd rounder for Kennedy.... No way, No Howe!!

Taking a step back though, I'm actually quite impressed at how much of a destination club we are.

Treloar, Aish and now Howe all wanting to play for us.

Probably why GWS and BL are giving us such a hard time.

If we can get these three, this will be our best trade period since Luke Ball/Darren Jolly 2009.
Has howe officially nominated us??

It seems to me negotiations arn't going to well and talks may have broken down.it would not surprise me at all that we miss out on treloar and Aish and end up with duds like Howe young and saad.

I heard Terry as well. Pretty sure he's wrong.

My understanding is that if you trade a future first rounder, then you're done trading future picks in that draft. If you hold onto the first rounder, then you're free to trade multiple future picks.

Additionally, you must use two first round draft picks over a 4 year period.

So essentially going from my understanding, we wouldn't be allowed to trade 2016 first AND second. But we could trade 2016 second and third etc. If we trade 2015 and 2016 firsts, then we'll be unable to trade a first rounder for 2017 next year, or a first rounder for 2018 in the 2017 trade period.

Does anyone know the actual rule?

If and it's a big if this does happen then we wont be the ones that didn't get the trades done. It would've been because GWS are being unreasonable and Brisbane are wanks.

I would be unbelievably disappointed if we got Howe. IMO, he would flourish in a team that needs medium marking forwards which stay in the F50. If Freo got McCarthy then dumped DeBoer or Mayne for Howe on the cheap, they'd be smiling. But we have Elliott, Fasolo and Swan already. We need a hard running high half forward ala Gunston, or a quick crumbing specialist. Howe is neither and Howe plays from behind too often to be that Gunston type. He's just unwilling to impose himself on games consistently. When you combine that with his poor defensive workrate, it's just a recipe for disaster, especially if we give up Kennedy for him.

This statement is based on what information exactly?

Not a great idea. Just a good way to get their backs up further. Similar to the smartarse comment he made about the "Dayne Beams" midfield which came across as rubbing Brisbanés nose in it. As funny and accurate as it might have been, bet he wishes he never made that comment now.

Don't agree. Lions tweeted about that actual deal. Sure it could be a subtle backhander from Bucks, but it might just be that it was in his opinion good that it was all done with no fan fare. He is allowed to have an opinion on another trades in the AFL. If Lions want to take him out of context, who cares.

I should have mentioned that, I have no issue with the comment backhanded or not. he has a point though which is that clubs need to put all the crap aside and treat each trade with respect. given the last trade with GWS was a successful one. in Shaw for Adams with no bitterness I'm surprised that it's dragging out.

The Shaw and Adams trade was always going to go ahead, but if you remember correctly it dragged on until the end, assumedly with lots of haggling over the sweetener. I suspect the same thing is going on here and seems to go one with all of our trades. I don't think that we can blame other clubs. It's the way we do business and over the last few years, we've walked away with very good deals.

But you have previously stated that Freeman's dodgy hammies and lack of development over past two years means that he will never reach his full potential.

Oh well least this time you a trolling an opposition supporter not us. I should be greatful.
Hammies hold up he might be the best player in that draft, if they don't he will be a bust. Up side huge, down side massive risk. That's all you can say about him.
