Wrong thread Maggie!
So you have gone into a bit of a nonsense thread about the king to talk about moving posts about the king (to where?) then post about the footy?

Maybe you posted in the wrong one?

Oh boy, you are both so right.

Think I should go back to bed, too much celebrating last night.

Might just leave the post there (and not delete) to show I make mistakes and next time not have so many threads open.

With the over celebrating, all I get is a headache and wanting to give it back.:(

Bed makes it worse.

Drink a litre of IPA and the hangover will disappear

I have recently heard that this is a furphy, and the Royal family don’t actually boost the British economy at all.

Massive tourism attractor

Big merch sales

Lots of employment

Associated taxes

Finance brand consultancy valued them at about GBP 70 billion biz in 2017 (approx 25 billion of hard assets)- would be a lot more now

Having seen the Crown Jewels I can attest to this.

A curious insight into the spectrum of supporters that football clubs attract. We all love Collingwood but outside of football so many of us live in very different realities. Regardless of your view on the role on the monarchy and its fringe benefits, it's worth to society or crimes that you may think should be laid at their door - a fundamentally decent woman whether she's a queen, office worker, politician or truck driver is entitled to a nod of respect.

I'm guessing King Charles has or is currently suffering from some medical condition that is causing his hands to swell and/or retain fluid.

I wonder if this condition can be targeted to a specific area of the body?

Asking for a friend in need.

The Baron hits the target again.
Well said.

Yeah was super awkward
Yeah it was like for me, (AFL) let’s embrace our Indigenous brothers and sisters as they welcome us through voice of one of their Elders.

In my time, she’s I’ve known her as a nice woman, Queen, Monarchy head, well to do etc and seriously wouldn’t know anything different on the main.
But you know what, even in death let’s celebrate and honour the woman that was head of the Monarchy that resided over the stolen generation etc.

Just the grouping of both events on the night- Totally awkward.

I guess it’s how we’ve evolved as a social species …

… we look to our leaders to provide us with inspiration, clarity, certainty, and protection in a challenging, confusing, uncertain and dangerous world.

For some, that leader is God, for others that leader is Donald Trump or Greta Thurnberg or Kim Kardashian or L.Ron Hubbard, or, or, or …

I don’t think Elizabeth II would have been the worst leader to follow?
The only problem here is the queen was not truly a leader. She was an inspiration to some, to others a figurehead of an institution/system that many would consider oppressive and corrupt. If anything she represented a worship and acceptance of the status quo and that is not leadership. Certainly she was a wonderful example of dedication to service but in doing so did not achieve the sacrifice that tens/hundreds of thousands gave in her and her families name.

It is nice to see the best of people in their passing but lets not be blind to history. The Queen's family were supposed leaders whilst their subjects, their armies and their gentry brought about more suffering (in the royal families name) than any of the four above. You cannot separate the Queen from what she represents currently and historically. If you were going to make a worthwhile comparison then it would be with Mao, Stalin or Pol Pot.

I believe it was discussed in this podcast, they have a Q & A with experts on different topics each week.

Any economists or finance people in there ?

A consortium of private equity people would buy them in a heart beat as a biz

Thank you though (at Bunnies game and slow to open)

Hahaha. Laughed out loud. Fear his wrath

Jmac's day off has nothing to do with the mean slur he made about my anatomy.

I'm not a petty man.
