I'd be interested to see the data on it, but with us holding our forwardline, I don't think we'd be covering as many kms as a lot of other teams.
This has been highlighted by the pundits on AFL360 and On The Couch. The ironic part is we may find our game style easier and less taxing this year compared to last season.

Watching us play is such great fun but geez all the media hype about how good we are, Premiership favourites, etc, etc, after just two games makes me very nervous.

Whipping up Collingwood fans’ expectations to such heights creates unwelcome hubris and expectation and usually, for us, ends in tears. It’s setting us up for a fall.

I hope the players don’t get sucked into the media circus and stay humble and focused. Confident but not arrogant. More Jordan era Chicago Bulls’ work-ethic than Harlem Globetrotters’ showboating.

It's very typically Collingwood to be hyped whilst playing well then the players believe the hype and the wheels fall off.

But with Fly at the helm and this 22 the hunger to win and be the best is there so I don't think complacency will be an issue and if it looks to be will get knocked on the head quickly.

The game plan is almost impossible to copy. You need to draft the right players in the first instance. Coach needs to be smart enough to implicate it.
This year's Collingwood would have made mince meat of last year's Geelong or Sydney.
It's not just frenetic football as Richmond showed for around 4 years. Our game plan is superior.

Player management also important. Great teams have always done this anyway.
Apparently we’ve simply copied Richmond’s game plan according to some squid on the Tigers BF board. If it was that easy, why aren’t all teams doing it and how come Richmond aren’t still winning flags.

We had De Goey and Adam injured for large parts of last season which really hampered our midfield with the injury to Adams late in year costing us a gf appearance at least. As much as I appreciate the good work our fitness team is doing they’re not magic enough to keep all our players fit for the whole year.

I hope we see some players managed in the middle of the year.
Our depth is very impressive this year. Providing we don’t lose multiple key players at once, we’ll be fine.

That's not even the best of what's on their board at the moment. Clown show over there. Top suggestions for shutting down Daicos revolve around knocking him out behind play somehow. In the same thread where they are complaining about the free kick count before the game has started.

Our game plan makes the opposition run more K’s in a game than us.
That should offer some reassurance we’ll wear out the opposition in any game.
Also, Wade has probably lifted our baseline fitness well above where it was 18 months ago, and beyond the rest of the competition.
This is a really interesting point!
Could you please elaborate a little on our game plan and why it allows us to run less Kms than opposition? Is it because we stay in the corridor?

Sounds like a solid plan to reduce the free kick count doesn’t it?

It might be interesting but it isn't true. In total we ran 1km more than Geelong (302 v 301) and Port(274 v 273). Team distance isn't a particularly meaningful stat as (Horne-Francis aside) a chaser and ball carrier will run pretty much the same distance, but one might be doing it dragging his arse on the ground.

I would expect tapered training load
...I'm no coach but wild ideas include Howe being moved forward when he returns, N Daicos moving forward in certain finals (or DeGoey), I'm not sure what else. The thing in our favour is that it's hard to change game plan mid-year so the other teams who aren't playing out style are already in deep trouble (see Fremantle).
Heh Naicos managed to find himself forward for 2 goals so I think that's going to happen regardless of game plan.

Given the long season, natural attrition and the likelihood of younger players tapering halfway through season I can still see us run through another 5-6 players. This will naturally change the lineups and roles so we're likely to evolve during Winter footy.

Our current gameplan works well on a dry deck. Will be interesting to see how we adapt to slippery conditions on Friday if this rain keeps up. High possession, high-handball may not work as well when skills take a dip in the wet.

We are not a high possession team though. Move the ball forward at all costs. As Fly says we are a low possession team

Riewoldt said on AFL360 last night that their system was working pretty well, and suggested that our system was very similar. He not-so-subtly suggested that Fly had taken or had copied their game plan.

Funny, in Richmond's reign from 2017-21 I can remember them not only running in waves but sacrificing stoppages and smacking the ball forward at all costs, as well as playing on edge more often than not (hence seriously skewed free kick counts which they used to love telling us about).

From what I've seen of us this year we're more willing to handball and run-and-carry and shift angles than they ever were. We don't have a major key forward so will look lateral before going to a McStay/Mihocek/Cox 1v1. And as others have suggested the difference appears to be that our forwards are staying deeper, probably meaning we'll have to work less hard and hopefully get better looks at goal.

If we've got blokes like Cox having shots from 30m out rather than 40+ we'll be more accurate and more likely to dominate teams or at least less likely to have to win by 1-10 points.

Just a gentle reminder we were in the exact same position last year - strong and unexpected win first up into a percentage booster.

Will be interesting to see how far we’ve come and if we can go on with it

To the eye we look a 5-8 goal better team than last year.

Again, it's March but there is clearly a significant improvement on last season.

Where it takes us, remains to be seen.

I’d argue the quality of opposition we did that against was significantly lower, and the footy we are playing now has evolved significantly.
But yes it will be interesting to see if we can go on with it. If teams weren’t trying to work out a counter to our game plan over the summer, they’ll definitely be actively working at it now.

Catch us if you can.

Will be a tough game I reckon hard to see us winning by more than 10 goals i reckon.

And the reason I think that is the Tigers play dirty, expect some ruffled feathers, I hope we keep our eye on the ball. Baker will take Daicos I reckon.

They also have two big game players in Martin and Reiwoldt.

Won’t be much more than a 10 goal win I fear.

Our close games this year will be in the 20’s, not single digits 💪
