I think he's tall enough to be an AFL ruck - if he's got an outstanding physical attribute to go with it. I just can't see it myself.
Strong overhead maybe? Could be a slow burn like Cameron in that respect.

I mean the actual ruckwork. He's going to have to pack on some serious size. I'd be taking a look at him as a defender.

He managed just one VFL game last year, in what was obviously an injury-wrecked season for him. So that was his first official game in almost a year (yesterday). Taking all that into account it was a very decent return to the game, and I just want to see him stay fit and watch how he progresses from here. Some aren't convinced, while I have really liked the look of him from the start!

He’s still pretty young, when we got Cameron in we got him for his overhead marking to use as a forward/relief ruck, his actual ruck work didn’t improve significantly until a few years after that iirc.

It'll be a long time to carry him on the list. He looks decent in the air - is he agile enough to try in defence whilst he's developing physically?

This was Oscar’s first vfl game in 12 months too. I think he faired pretty well considering. There was plenty to like from his performance.
Just needs to stay healthy so he can keep developing.

I like the look of him at times too. I view Dean and Sullivan as very good footballers, but I'm skeptical about them in terms of AFL as I think they're athletically NQR for their AFL roles and I'll be surprised if Steene doesn't remain that as well - in terms of ruck at least. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I’d like to see him used both in the ruck and defence. Get him used to dropping back in the hole defensively like Cameron is so bloody good at.

Rucks are getting taller. I think the good ones of his height are physical brutes.
Tristan Xerri is a similar size to Steene and not really a brute, and he's arguably the best ruck in the comp right now.

Even our own Darcy Cameron isn't on another planet in terms of size to Steene.

I'm not saying Steene is a guarantee to be a success as an AFL ruckman, but I don't think size will be the issue.

This Xerri?
