We needed a preview thread so here I am again.

I was having a think about the theme I wanted to go for this week. Yes, I could have done the stock standard preview thread talking about match ups etc etc. But, as it appears we are already being written off by all a sundry, I felt we needed a bit more of an inspirational piece.

It's round three and we are up against the old rival, the other biggest club in Victoria, the renewed Collingwood Football Club under one of our favourite sons Craig McRae.
Admittedly, it's not a familiar sight. They have a likeable coach and they have a game style that is increasingly entertaining to watch. Albeit, very similar to our own of years gone.
That comes with the territory though, when you build a dynasty and win three flags in four years, you will be hunted, you will be copied and you will be hated.
Collingwood are now outright premiership favourites after dispatching last year's premier Geelong and a Port Adelaide side that destroyed one of the premiership fancies Brisbane.

They have a second year player by the name of Nick Daicos that has sent the footy world into a frenzy asking the question "What can you do to stop Nick Daicos?".
It's a valid question, the kid is scary good, but I don't think Damien Hardwick will be asking that question to our players and coaching staff.
What has been the messaging in his post match press conferences so far this year? It's whether or not the game looked like a Richmond game.
We don't go out each week to stop another team's system or their specific players, we go out each week with the intention of playing our system, a Richmond brand of footy. And we ask the question of the opposition "can you break down our system?".

When we played Adelaide, our system got tested in the third quarter and the first instances of the final quarter, and we got scored against heavily. Yes, that is concerning, but I prefer to look at it in a way where we can now analyse what went wrong and learn from it.
We had learnings from the Carlton game as well. Our ball use going inside 50 was atrocious and we lacked an end product. That wasn't an issue against Adelaide.

We learnt on Monday that we have a few key players under injury clouds. Short will miss with a niggling calf complaint and we may be without Hopper and Dustin Martin. Not to mention Broad who will be suspended. Just add it to the list of things going against us in the lead up to this game. Should we be concerned? No, I don't believe we should be. Our game style is based on our system. One soldier goes out, another soldier comes in. We have players running around in the two's who would be walk up starts at clubs like Collingwood.

Friday night we will walk into the MCG as outright underdogs. Whether it be in betting, in tipping, office banter, chat groups with friends, hell even a portion of our own supporter base won't be backing us to get the win.
In recent memory, I can't recall a game where we haven't been in it up to our eyeballs. Especially, when we go in as underdogs.
Collingwood hasn't experienced a Richmond game since the last time we met where Tom Lynch made a fool of Darcy Moore and the entire Collingwood defence. We will put a level of pressure on them that they didn't experience in the first two rounds.
I have no doubt that the team we put out there on Friday night can get the job done.

A lot has changed for both teams. Step up Collingwood, let's see what you got.

Pies have won already apparently
end thread
they are already premiers

have never heard a 2-0 club get sucked off so much in the media

its hilarious

Thanks prodigy for the preview.

This is going to be a fun game to watch. Pies are flying and we're going at half rat power with occasional brilliance (just how I'd like us to be going early in the season) so this is a bit of a free hit really. If we lose it won't be the end of the world, still 20 games to go and let them carry the premiership favourite tag all year and see how they're doing by about round 20.

If on the other hand we are able to bring our all court press and put them under the kind of pressure that they haven't had so far this year (and like we showed when we spanked them last year) and win, then we STILL won't be premiership favourites lol That will slip off back to Geelong or Brisbane or Sydney, whomever is flavour of the week.

Great chance to get some games into the youngsters.

Banks for Broad
Clarke for Short

Dusty, Lunch and Hopper all to play.

Somewhat of a free hit. I assume will be missing Short, Broad, Hopper, Martin, Tarrant, Gibcus and Soldo. 7 of our best 25 players.

Pies missing Howe and Lipinski.

Changes :

Out : Short, Broad, Hopper, Martin
In : Ross, Sonsie, Clarke, Ralphsmith

Sub: Mansell, Clarke or Ralphsmith

To be any chance we are going to have to run like mutha farkers and these selections improve our ability to cover the ground at speed.

Remember, we have not lost a proper match by more than 6-points since R8 in 2022. If we can give this match a shake or even win with all our outs look out !

I found last weekends' talk about premiership favouritism and Brownlow/Rising Star winners a bit cringe. It was round 2 FFS.
Is that you KJPie?

I hope he is doing well.

Haven't gone into many games lately with zero expectations of a win. It's actually refreshing. Can just relax and see how things pan out. Pies peaking ridiculously early, let them have their fun. If we somehow win I will bust so hard my zipper will be imbedded in the gyprock behind my tv.

Just reading the VFL report makes me reconsider my selections for this round.
Sonsie - building up fitness. I wanted him in the firsts but am happy to wait on this.
Cumberland - despite being the obvious Dusty replacement, I don't want him rewarded for a fairly shit VFL performance. Maybe try Judson instead if Dusty is out.
Ross and Hugo both played a lot off the HBF. I'd consider either as a Broad replacement rather than going tall. Already have Balta, Young, Grimes - then Rioli, Vlas, Baker. Dimma likes having a 7th defender on the bench. Ross or Hugo? Less likely I think would be Mansell or Banks.
Short - I would play Bolton more in the midfield and put Mansell in the forward line.
Hopper if he misses - doesn't necessarily need replacing by a like as we still have Prestia, Cotchin, Tarranto covering the engine room. Dow?

B: Grimes Young Vlas
HB: Ralphsmith Balta D Rioli
C: Picket Cotchin K-Mac
HF: Graham Riewoldt J Clarke (or Dusty)
F: MRJ Lynch Mansell
R: Nank Prestia Tarranto
I: Bolton Baker Ross(or Hopper) Ryan
Sub: Dow (or Ross or Clarke if Dusty/Hopper play)

The best position for Bolton is that he just follows the footy around all day (on ball).
Not sure if he has developed the tank for that yet, but we need his dynamism in and around the contest.

It’s Tiger time.

In all honesty, a loss isn’t the end of the world, as long as we don’t get flogged, which I don’t think we will.

Lol.

"It's Tiger time (meaning we'll win). But we might lose, which doesn't matter."

These threads are strange. We play a couple good games, media jumps on cos we sell clicks, and now you hate everything about us.

Looking forward to Friday.
