Sidearse 40 odd uncontested possessions and 7 million inside 50s hurt more then Cox influence

It’s funny isn’t it. Pies were absolutely all over us and up 32-9 at qtr time and Cox hadn’t kicked a goal. He then kicked 3-goals in 10 minutes at start of second. And that was it.

Don’t get me wrong, he played a great 10 minutes. But he kicked 3 goals and had 7 score involvements. He had 15 touches at 40% DE.

I’d swear from everything I hear he kicked 9-goals and played the greatest game of all-time.

Potential Match Ups

B: Frampton Maynard Moore
F: Riewoldt Bolton Lynch

HB: Noble Quaynor N.Daicos
HF: M.Rioli Graham Baker

C: Sidebottom Pendlebury J.Daicos
C: McIntosh Cotchin Pickett

HF: Mihocek Cox Hill
HB: Young Nyoun D.Rioli

F: Elliott McStay Adams
B: Grimes Balta Vlastuin

R: Cameron De Goey Crisp
R: Nankervis Taranto Prestia

INT: Mitchell Murphy McCreery Hoskin-Elliott
INT: Ryan Ross Dow Mansell

Based on the Pies going in unchanged and Richmond making the following changes Broad Short Hopper Martin all out with Ross Dow Nyoun & Mansell coming in to the 22.

Our forwards v Their defenders
Think Moore gets Lynch and Frampton goes to Jack initially and then rolling to Ryan when he comes into the F50, with Murphy going to Jack. I expect Quaynor to line up on Graham so that when Graham pushes into the midfield, Quaynor will go to Nicks opponent so the Pies can either push him into the midfield as well or set up as the +1 in their back line to set up their rebound from D50. That leaves Noble to go to Maurice. With the outs this week I'm opting to move Baker into the F50 to start and see if he can go to Daicos, not as a hard tag but as someone who can run with Daicos if he pushes up the ground but also be dangerous enough when inside 50 to have Nick making sure he is accountable for his opponent and not just setting up as the outlet. A lot of this will come down to how we're delivering the ball inside 50 and how we structure up when not in possession to not give Daicos the easy touches he thrives on. I reckon we'll have Bolton start in the Dusty role up forward and expect Maynard to get the job trying to keep him in check.

Midfield battle
Cameron v Nankervis is a couple of slightly undersized rucks who can get involved in the play and can make life a bit easier for their midfielders by creating space around the contest, but also aren't afraid of getting their hands/knees dirty defensively. Rounding out the starting centre square midfield I'd go with Cotchin v Pendlebury, Taranto v De Goey and Prestia v Crisp. 3 pretty even match ups IMO, with the old campaigners in Cotchin and Pendlebury squaring off for one of their last times, 2 attacking bulls in Taranto & De Goey who can set their teams up in terms of breaking away from the stoppage, while Prestia v Crisp is a match up of 2 unassuming types who simply get the job done week to week with a minimum of fuss, but can also have a major say in the result if they can win their head to head encounter. On the wings I have the hard running KMac matched up on the Pies gut runner in Sidebottom, while Pickett goes head to head with the other Daicos with Pickett being accountable enough to cover Josh when he pushes forward, but can also make Josh accountable the other way as well.

Our backs v their forwards.
Broad out hurts and means we're going to be a little inexperienced based on who I've brought in for Broad with Biggie getting the nod. I reckon his athleticism both in the air and on the ground can work against Cox who is a bit of a lumbering type who runs straight lines, which should allow Biggie the opportunity to jump across/over Cox when the ball is coming in high and long. Cox would have him in a battle of strength but if our pressure up the ground is forcing dirty entries into their F50 we could gain an advantage at ground level. I've got Grimes going to Elliott who I think if the Pies most dangerous forward who can hurt both in the air and at ground level and Grimes has proven time and again he can match it with those types and limit their impact. I've got Balta lining up on McStay, but could flip Young from Mihocek to McStay and let Balta take Mihoceck instead, it depends on who lines up deepest for the Pies. I've got Vlastuin taking Adams/resting midfielder, who like Graham for us probably pushes up to become an extra midfielder, this then allows Vlastuin to se up as our +1 who can then give Biggie and Young a chop out in their match ups. This leaves Daniel to play on Hill in a similar way to how Nick will play for the Pies, which should see Daniel continue with his strong start to the season, while also being accountable for Hill when we're not in possession of the ball.

Benches
For us Ryan will play the same role as he did against the Crows mainly forward with short stints in the ruck. Ross and Dow are midfield rotations, with Mansell their as a utility where he can either go forward or going to the back line if needed. For the Pies Murphy will go into defence when we're playing Tom Jack and Ryan forward, Mitchell and WHE will go through the middle, while McCreery is part of their forward/midfield rotations.

What it means for the game. On paper the Pies look the stronger and should win, but games aren't played on paper. If we can get the game looking like a typical Richmond game we can make things difficult for the Pies, but it's going to take everyone being on their game. If we're off even a little bit the Pies are going to win rather comfortably. The thing from this game that is more important than the 4 points IMO is that we'll get a look at the Pies at their best and we've shown in the past that we generally learn a lot from early season encounters against good opponents.
Now this is a preview! Better than what that campaigner did in the OP.

Sidebottom was BOG by the Flemington straight

Dislocation, but with stitches on the joint, which essentially says compound dislocation. But no one is saying that yet. Not lying, just omitting.

Never a good thing when players are injured but, in this instance, I hope you decide to rest him. Think your forward line is potent enough even if he is missing.

I'm pretty disappointed that we will be missing Hopper, Short & Martin as I believe the one area we have improved in to help us beat you is clearances & centre clearances. If you guys win clearances like you did against Port then it will be a similar scoreline.

Our backline is not set either apart from Grimes, Vlastuin & Rioli its still pretty raw. Balta is talented but still has a lot to learn and when he has a bad game its very telling. Not having Broad (idiot action) and Gibcus / Tarrant just makes it less solid and I think the pies forwardline is going to be hard to stop.

If it really is a compound dislocation that he has suffered, then it won't be a choice to rest him. He will be out for a while.

Think I’m going to be unpopular for what I think the changes will be. But here goes:

OUT: Broad, Short, Martin, Hopper
IN: Ralphsmith/ Mansell, Ross, Dow, Clarke

Noting it’s going to be wet, Riewoldt plays the ‘Dusty when forward role’, Clarke is a more appropriate inclusion than Cumberland for the conditions.

Mansell plays Broad’s spot as a like-for-like replacement. If match committee decide to go play KMac back (which I’d prefer), Hugo comes in. (But all for Banks getting a shot).

Ross is next man up. Plays Short’s role.

Dow is the next up inside mid up. Plays Hopper’s role.

1980? 43 years ago and a flag year - also standing room where they crammed incredible numbers in.

We all remember you went missing for 20-30 years over the course of the nineties and noughties ;)
We will cop our whack but with all due respect 2 flags in 64 years and those flags were won in October. Maybe your mob are cursed?

F: Baker Lynch Cumberland

HF: M.Rioli Riewoldt Graham

C: McIntosh Bolton Pickett

HB: Grimes Young D.Rioli

B: Balta Miller Vlastuin

R: Nankervis Taranto Prestia

INT: Ryan Ross Cotchin Mansell

In: Ross, Miller, Cumberland, Mansell

Even those saying Cumberland wasnt that great last week, I'd still bring him back in as it was his first game for the season and I reckon he could spark our forward line.

Mansell gets another crack even though I was a bit critical of him round 1. Might include Sonsie over Mansell, not sure as Sonsie gives us more midfield strength.

Miller back in now that Broad is out.

Nankervis, Ryan & Miller to ruck and maybe this one area we try and hurt the pies by pulverizing Cameron.

Injuries are part of the course but to insinuate they won't have an impact i s a bit naive.

You better not lose, could be a quick fall from top of that media mountain.
Just what all the Richmond supporters were saying when we not only played you twice in 2018 with depleted line ups but lost key players early in both games.

It was endless mockery and memes. Now we are highly aware of the way injuries can impact a team's performance.

Go figure.

You seem to be a tad upset that we are the ones chasing you now. LOL Perhaps its because this time you aren't reigning premiers?
