So assuming there's a five year deal on the table from the Crows, would there be a clause in there addressing what would happen in the event of another concussion or two?? Is the club able to stipulate that kind of detail, given that it's such an unkown quantity??

EDIT: WW - I would have thought it would have to be mentioned somewhere in the contract.
No its buyer beware ...same as any other injury like a knee
It's the risk associated with such a long contract and why clubs have been reluctant to invoke

I hope Big Kurt leaves because whatever we are going to pay him to stay would be way above his worth.
Yes but only if you get a tall to replace him and we can't afford to go to the National Draft and wait 3-4 years to develop

First preference is to keep Tippett .....a forward/ruckman who takes contested marks is Gold

Second preference is that a replacement tall is part of the Tippett trade

Surely we wouldnt have offered a 5 year deal if Kurt wasnt looking for one.
Unless you look at it this way .....reduced $value of contact (v what's on offer Qld clubs) but trade off is length of contract and sureity

Better off getting picks, scouring WAFL, SANFL, VFL for those mature rooks or low picks than taking on somebody's else's problems imo. Kurt's younger brother could be one such player..wants another crack, willing to go anywhere to get it.

I think this is a card the Crows have to play - seems as though Joel is close to deserving of a spot in his own right. Be a big call to leave a team your brother is just about to join.

Are you that naive  ......don't you follow Eastern state news

Goddard has said HE WANTS TO STAY AT ST KILDA AND BE A ONE CLUB PLAYER !!!!!!

FFS why does everyone ignore information available and continue to fantasize

Bring something of substance to the discussion instead of posting rubbish!

Just to be plain ......CLOKE WILL NOT BE COMING TO ADELAIDE !!!!

Settle down, FFS. Goddard has also had a number of interviews where he refused to say he was staying. Of course he WANTS to be a one club player, but if a better offer came along, he has given ample evidence he'd accept it.

Yeah, not so much buyer beware..it's a contract, the parties can agree to whatever they want as long as it doesn't breach any laws. So the club could say they want it performance based or that if he gets another concussion and has to retire or can't play they don't have to (for example) pay the full amount etc. They can ask for whatever clause they believe will protect the interests of the club. But it has to be by agreement, so Kurt may not agree. He might insist on no such conditions, or some other version eg if he's injured they pay say 85%. So they will both have to come to some agreement they can live with. The difficulty for the club is Kurt holds the upper hand a bit, if he doesn't like their terms he can just not sign, then it's a question of what deal the club can do or let him go into the draft - not a good option for the club but a last resort to force his hand.

Get over yourself oh great self-proclaimed Oracle. FFS, what is your problem? I find your above post offensive for a number of reasons, including ignorance, naivety and lack of comprehension.

So the fact a player says he wants to be a one club player means it's a fait accompli he stays does it? Now who is being naive? Simple questions - why hasn't he signed? Has your "East Coast" news not been reporting on the Saints tight cap?
Anyway, as I said Goddard is a "hard get" but the simple point you obviously failed to understand is that the Crows will be cashed up and can go and be aggressive in trade week, as they have already indicated. So Sylvia, Goddard, whoever, can be chased. Goddard would be the first priority but there are other decent candidates

No in fact he has come out and said he wants to stay at St Kilda ....why else would there be no jungle drums about his location next year ....sorry you missed his interview

But why people keep fantasizing about things they would like rather than reality

Lets talk about REAL POSSIBILITIES .....why are people talking about replacing a tall with another midfielder  ....simply because posters would like that player at Adelaide and forgetting our needs

We need a tall as part of any Tippett deal ....don't care if good mids are available
Any injuries to talls next season (Jacobs, Walker) and we are stuffed

And why in the #### are you mentioning Cloke here and wasting my time. Completely irrelevant.

Piss poor post overall WW. Fail

One thing you're forgetting here is that anything within a players contract needs to be signed off on by the AFL.

Look I am not sure how much you can vary the standard AFL contract ...but that aside as you say both parties have to agree and frankly why would any player agree to "injury" terms in a contract

Close to the most realistic comment I've read so far in trying to catch up on this thread...

This is a Kurt Tippett thread on BigFooty. There is no place for realistic comments under any circumstances. I suggest you ignore them in the future to ensure you're caught up in the hysteria.

Whilst I agree Goddard is highly unlikely to leave.. saying he 'wants' to stay at St Kilda is very different from saying he 'is' staying with St Kilda.

Semantics ...as all parties want the same outcome .....the deal will be done

Even if they have to trade a player out to free up salary cap .......Goddard is too important to St Kilda
Lots more money avail at GWS .......but he's locked into the saints

Wouldn't be surprised if Kosi is avail for trade though .....might just need a new club
On his day the best player in the comp and would love him at Adelaide

How many players have said they want to stay at their current club and end up going elsewhere.....

Because he is struggling to run out games.

Missed most of the pre-season. Needs a big one... then bam :)
My theory is that most highish draft picks with decent game time start showing signs in the second half of their second season (usually after a shocking first half). This is what seemed to be happening for Polec before he was injured, and on our end with Brodie Smith (has been in our top five for the last three matches). Then, after a solid pre-season in the third year, they go BOOM.

Then you have the freaks like Fyfe and Gaff who just make me jealous.

Not many ....tell me who has left a club after stating they want to stay?

There's hardly an avalanche of player movement ....the only recent player ICR was Mitchell Clark who said he was leaving but changed the destination club ....so that doesn't count

Anyone else?

Bock also wanted to stay with the Crows and be a one club player in fact he said it at a press conference a month before he signed with Gold Coast!

Wanting to stay is not enough to get it over the line unless he wants to stay at any cost which I don't think is the case!

Having said that, even if he was to leave St. Kilda, he is not coming to Adelaide! He will get at least a comparable offer from one of the Melbourne clubs (most likely St. Kilda)

Kosi or Goddard? If you are saying Kosi you need to hand in your posting privileges.
Kosi  ......not sure he works well with Nick
He bulked up too much when he was playing ruck and lost his mobility .......forget all the media hype ...he's a talent that if harnessed I have seen rip games apart

He's a terrific contested mark, flattens packs and can play as a second ruckman ..........it's been his consistency that's been the issue .....but if it wasn't for the consistency we'd have no chance to secure him
