Well he could at least do us a favor and commentate in a funny accent, only way he'd be slightly entertaining and stop my blood from boiling at everything he says. Just derides everyone, clearly doesn't think much of the Suns either going by this youtube clip.

Oh how I long for simpler days…it never gets old…..

Is it his constant fellation of anything Geelong.
Yeah, nah, I don't agree with this at all. He's commentated some of the greatest moments in recent times that come against Geelong, the Miracle on Grass and the Nick Davis game come to mind, and done it with class and respect.

He's by an absolute mile the best in the business when it comes to commentary flow, feel for the game, the craft of commentary and just being enjoyable to listen to. No one else in the AFL industry even comes close to touching him. Also, he's so inoffensive, I don't get some of the hate I see directed at him.

Used to be good, but he's become a parody of himself. He's also part of the wannabe boys club that don't mind having the odd dig at us either. Not the worst but not the best IMO.

Can't stand any of them who say this new terminology (led by Brian Taylor and followed by other sheep), long ball, short ball, good ball, bad ball, just say long kick, short kick, good kick, bad kick, it has worked well for over a century! Be proud of our game and our terminology!

"Catch" really grinds my gears.

Exactly this. Has steadily got worse and now cheerleads incessantly.

It's a fair question.

Who is the best commentator still calling today?

It's like being asked to choose what would be your favourite terminal illness.
Jason Bennett is pretty good, but perhaps he stands out a bit because the general standard of footy commentary is pretty ordinary.
I’m not a fan of all the unnecessary Americanisms: quarterback, dee-fence, off-fence, selling candy etc etc

Good call on Bennett. I was trying to think of that guy's name as he was the first I thought of too.

It's a shame Peter Donnegan isn't part of the boys club. Old fashioned play by play caller with the occasional bit of humour and absolutely zero bullshit.

Fair enough, but again, I don't agree with this at all. He's as good now as he's ever been imo. His call of the Shai Bolton mark on radio earlier in the year was some of the finest commentary heard in a long time.

I don't really hear the digs at us either. I think any commentary of us atm is going to be critical simply because we're at a low point. It's not negative to point out when mistakes are made and when we're playing poorly.

Also, you didn't say this, but I don't get the 'he hasn't played so what would he know about footy' argument. Darcy, BT, Ling, Russell etc all played at the highest level and they're ****ing dogshit commentators. Being a good footballer doesn't mean you're a good play-by-play commentator.

Luke Darcy is making a massive run at it.
It’s only longevity that’s holding him back from taking the crown.
Darcy is genuinely the worst in the business, and I ****ing hate BT. Darcy just continually asks rhetorical questions. "What about that?" "How good was that?" etc. Don't ****ing ask us, campaigner. Use your words to explain it.

Thank god someone is looking at these incidents from yesterday.

North Melbourne v GWS: Giants’ remarkable comeback falls short in dramatic draw
Shane Mumford is set to face scrutiny from the MRO for two incidents in GWS Giants’ draw with North Melbourne.

Physical Giants ruckman Shane Mumford is facing potential suspension for two incidents out of Sunday’s draw with North Melbourne.
The first was a coathanger-style tackle on Tarryn Thomas after the whistle was blown, while the second saw Mumford narrowly miss Jy Simpkin’s head with his right forearm as he fell to the ground.

News Corp understands match review officer Michael Christian is scrutinising both, citing them as rough conduct and striking charges, respectively.

The tackle on Thomas occurred in the second quarter after the young Roo gave away a routine in-the-back free kick to Tim Taranto before picking up the ball and attempting to break away.

Mumford charged at him, grabbed him around the neck, spun him, then effectively body-slammed him.

North Melbourne midfielder Ben Cunnington instantly remonstrated with Mumford as Thomas remained on the ground holding his head.

Fox Footy commentator and former Western Bulldogs star Brad Johnson’s instant reaction was of surprise that the umpire didn’t subsequently award Thomas a free kick.

“Not reversed? How is that not reversed?” Johnson said.

Former champion North Melbourne and Carlton ruckman Corey McKernan tweeted about Mumford’s crude tackle at the time, describing it as him putting “the sleeper hold on”.

Speaking to News Corp, McKernan said on Monday that Mumford “treads a super fine line”.

“As much as some of it doesn’t look good; it’s also what he’s there to do – provide a contest and be super physical,” McKernan said.

The Simpkin incident happened later in the same quarter and again after play had stopped.

With an umpire standing nearby, Mumford fell over Simpkin, who had the ball, and his right forearm barely went over his rival’s head.

The 34-year-old was suspended three times previously on rough conduct charges and fined on various other charges.

How does that work? Isn't the radio coverage ahead of the TV broadcast?
It works for me. Even if I have to pause it for a second and then unpause it syncs up.
