the number of changes doesn't necessarily impact the chances of winning or losing.

We'll have a bloke who kicked 9 goals come in this week, and possibly Wardlaw's debut. We'll be a chance.
right, so we're hanging our hat on a guy who's played 20 AFL games and averaged less than a goal, plus an underdone first gamer.

I realize it's been a long time since we've been competitive but come on, CCJ isn't as good as Zurhaar and Wardlaw isn't as good as LDU.

But equally so, 4 of the 6 changes are for guys who people on here pot as ready to de-list or at the very least, drop. Perez, Tucker, Mahony and Corr. LDU (and seemingly Zurhaar?) definitely make us weaker no matter who comes in, but let's not think the world is caving on because the number happens to be 6.

Effort is a byproduct of confidence with this group. The skill errors and ridiculous turnovers just sapped the team and it’s fairly evident to see week in week out. The amazing part is things can click if the skill execution can be raised to a 70-80% level. Easier said than done, but the indictment is that skill level has not improved one bit in the last god knows how long. And that comes down to development!

You cannot argue with any of that. None. They’re no natural leaders. I would argue CZ has more natural leadership instincts than any in the leadership group but lacks polish. That should count for him and not against him. Wayne was a natural leader in actions. He was not a media performer and still isn’t ! That’s what we need. Someone to follow into battle. Larkey is a classic. In the leadership group but I wouldn’t follow him around the corner. McKay is worse. Leading Teams should be thrown out if that’s the best they can come up with.

I say this about Jy particularly rather than the other players named and shamed by David King - is there a chance he/they were caught in no man's land playing to instructions?

David was highlighting them not committing to individual contests. I wonder if some of the examples were players deliberately holding back in a certain zone?

Probably not. Just want to test the "insufficient effort" hypothesis a bit before going in with the jackboots.

They're all fixated on the game plan trying to learn it which is fine but in the meantime they're using it as an excuse to be lazy IMO. They've done it so many times now it comes natural.

I dunno that's what it feels like.

You talking about the first or second low light? First one, he had to close the space, that's how zones work. 2nd one, he held off to cover the outlet pass, but McKay was already beaten. That could be following instruction but unlikely. Surely a second tackler is a must inside D50.

It looked really poor to the naked eye. Just looking for any nuance before concluding it was all laziness.

I don't see it so much as laziness in an effort sense but it's defiantly lazy in a mental sense. The guys are trying, but they're making poor decisions, or hoping their team mate does something special. It's these mental lapses that are killing us.

My hubby says they just dont care, they are getting their coin each week and there doesnt seem to be a consequence to them playing poorly when most of them should be playing out of their skins to ensure they dont get delisted. I am tending to start agreeing with him. The captaincy hasnt helped McDonald at all n fact its made him go backwards and I am giving Jy a bit of an out because of injury but he is doing dumb stuff he wasnt doing before. Ben McKay has gone backwards too and you have to wonder why. Does Clarko ride them hard and they cant handle the heat after years of mediocrity in the coaching ranks????? I am aware that Noble rode them hard but I think much more differently than to what Clarko knows/does

Like Gold Coast, the Roos have been forced into difficult choices.

Forced to trade No.1 overall pick Jason Horne-Francis, they at least got picks 2, 3, 40 and 42 and Port’s first-rounder this season.

Harry Sheezel is a jet and George Wardlaw should debut this week. Both should play at the Roos for 12-15 years, and Horne-Francis would have left this year if they didn’t trade him last October.

In 2018 the Roos knew their pick 11 would be swallowed up by a bid on NGA prospect Tarryn Thomas, so they traded 11 and a fourth-rounder for Jared Polec, Jasper Pittard and pick 48.

It was a disastrous deal, even if it didn’t strictly involve a top 10 pick.

RATING: Let’s focus on the positives. Given what Jason Horne-Francis has said about his homesickness he was going to leave at some stage. As the Roos unwrap the gift that is Wardlaw at least they have maximised their assets from a bad situation.

That is not what we got for releasing JHF. We also had to give up the number 1 pick this year as part of the trade.

I still think losing last years number 1 pick (given how good that player will be), and giving up this years number 1 pick, was way overs for what we got back in return.

Haven't we already seen this movie when Nobes ripped into them last year after the Lions thrashing?

Interestingly enough, it was prior to the Swans clash last season too. To all intents and purposes, it certainly seemed to work - for one week.
