Club History Completely random Melbourne memories that come to mind for no particular reason

My random Melbourne Demons memory I think of randomly is schmuttt punching a large motor vehicle after losing to Geelong in Geelong. I admit I never actually saw it, but I’ve heard the tale recounted by many, so the imagery is vivid, moreso than many actual memories I have.
The Schmuttt files are more vivid to me now then the biggest events in my life

Highlight of my Melbourne supporting life was witnessing that in person

May's first game? Was there, was grim.

As was I, it was a shocking night. Weather awful too, I think we had like 70 inside 50s for 5 goals or something awful.
I thought you punching a bin on the way out was a bit over the top, though.

I think my favourite part of the Schmuttt files is the silent drives with Schmuttt occasionally saying “I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed “.

That plus the talkback radio thing being like poking an ants nest with a stick. Best BF content in years. I nearly cried laughing. It’s all too real

Ironically I also have an enjoyable story of schmuttt poking an ants nest whilst playing cricket.

Good vlog content!

I think the best part of the schmuttt files though is that not only did he live through Melbourne as was, but actually volunteered to do so, at least on occasion, with a Geelong supporter. That is real courage right there

Supermercado I know you have memories of some of the first match against $cully in 2012

Or any other memories honestly, this thread is made for you
Apart from all the obvious shenanigans, I remember the rousing applause when James McDonald got his first touch. Proved we weren't a bunch of savages. Say what you want about feuding with players on big money who don't even know/care who you are (see Port Adelaide fans vs the rest of the league), but the level of comedy in The People vs T$ will never be surpassed in AFL football.

On a non-him related topic, who else was there in Round 20, 2010 when Hawthorn had a pre-match goalkicking competition featuring recovered drug addicts, and before they had their shot (so to speak) they were quizzed about what they'd overcome. It was the worst matchday event until our one week of 'Match The Emoji' in 2016 which was declared 💩.

Update - Live tweet from drug addict goalkicking day.

  • Jeff White and Steven King running in slow motion across the 'G in atrocious conditions in 2003 (schmuttt to confirm)
  • Watching Jayden Hunt break the lines a few times vs Adelaide in 2016 (schmuttt to confirm) and me stating he'd be a 200 gamer
  • Realising Josh Hunt poked fun after taking a mark in the forward 50, before he missed the set shot
  • Refusing to accept that Bontempelli was any good, or the goal was any good, after he scored a snap goal from the boundary in 2014 at the Dome. (schmuttt to confirm but this may have also been a storm-out game)
  • Sitting in the pocket yelling out "MASTER" each time Bate got the ball vs (schmuttt to confirm)
  • Holding back laughter after an old guy on the train told a young woman on the train she "has a huge schnozz" after a Melbourne / Geelong game
  • Another V/Line train trip home after a game in the mid 2000s and it was one of those old school trains that had the cabins.

Can I just say one post match interview that has bothered me for years

After drawing with Sydney in round 1 2011 Richo interviews Brad Green, anyways the mention of a draw came up
"You've never played in a draw"
"Yeah it's the first one"

Green played in the draw against Collingwood the previous year

Random yes, but it's bothered me for so long

I wasn't there for the White/King game, but I do remember all the others. The Hunt one was in 2006, he was laughing at Moloney after he took the mark. Missed the shot, Geelong lost the game.

Saw a vid on YouTube the other day about players who self sabotaged their career, featured Bennell of course, he had some fantastic highlights in his short time with us, just pure class with the footy. Very Darren Jarman esc the way he moved and played. Such a shame it didnt work out, would love him in this side.
