Dragons FFC 23.14 (152) defeat Coney Island Warriors 14.11 (95)​

Round thirteen was our biannual loss to the Dragons. They had some sort of love affair with TheInjuryFactory, Dinsdale got attacked by wasps again, the spirit of Dav appeared in what was a sign of things to come, FootyGuy13 probably drank some weird milk, the foopy was both discussed and dismissed and I fell in love with Blacula.

So yeah the game. We last defeated the Dragons eight seasons ago, and twice in total since the end of season 23. If that's not the height of simhousery then I don't know what is. But like a moran I think "this is gonna be the season that we beat them" and am left sitting on the kerb crying every damn time. They kicked a goal within a minute and never surrendered the lead from there, and even though it was close-ish for the first quarter the lead blew out to 68 points at three quarter time. The sim graced us with winning the final quarter by 11 point but that was really nothing more than a "f*ck you Warriors" as the final margin was 57 points, our biggest defeat of the season and one that sees us edging the bottom spot on the ladder with four games remaining.

Ocha905 was best on for us with a 28 disposal/4 tackle effort. Piggy Smalls (22 disposals/6 marks 1 goal), pantskyle (24 disposals/5 tackles/1 goal), FootyGuy13 (20 disposals/5 marks) & Purple7x08_24 (20 disposals/7 marks) also got plenty of the ball while TubbsFarquhar (3 goals) Reginald Perrin The Filth Wizard zackah & Mofra (2 goals each) were the multiple goal kickers. And I got my customary pulling off.

It was a leaner than usual season as far as goals went, but it wasn't enough for this person to add 47 goals to the 874 he already had. And that was enough for this person to add a third Wooshette Medal to the two he already had. One forged in a childhood home that started in England, moved to Perth and then eventually blossomed at Van Cortlandt Park via parts unknown. So Wazzas I give you joint Pwned Trophy winners for season 37, the Brothers of Tough Love - pantskyle and The Filth Wizard !

    Coney Island Warriors 11.11 (77) defeated by Fighting Furies 16.8 (104)

    It was a big week for Coney Island, as we celebrated the first player to reach 300 games. A big milestone in a milestone season. Our good friend Raveneyes was the one to achieve the feat, earning himself SFA Life Membership in the process. We got around him accordingly, however the sim ripped our collective heart from our chest and tied that heart to its belt, which was the style at the time.

    Despite it being the quietest match thread of the season, it was still good value as the Furies are good people (yes even him). Their taste in cinema is absolute dogsh*t though, but let's not hold that against them too much. We even got a Star Wars day thing thrown in there.

    Game day then happened. We got a new match commentary poster, one from the Dragons. You know, that team that we've beaten twice in our last twenty (20) meetings, so I'm sure the mega-milestone would be countered out by some good juju right?

    Scores were even for the first 36 seconds of the match, and again for another couple of minutes, which lasted until 5.04 of the first quarter. We did win the third quarter by 3 points and the fourth quarter by 9 points, however we still managed to lose by 27 points. The loss left us two wins and percentage out of the top eight with three games remaining. Imagine if your life support needed life support. That was our finals hopes.

    Ocha905 was best in for us for the second week in a row thanks to 22 disposals & 12 tackles. pantskyle (26 disposals/4 tackles/1 goal) was not far off while TheInjuryFactory (23 disposals/8 marks/2 goals), Freofalcon (23 disposals/6 marks), Raveneyes (20 disposals/12 hitouts/4 tackles), Piggy Smalls (24 disposals/3 marks), Dinsdale (22 disposals/7 marks) and FootyGuy13 (21 disposals/4 marks) all found plenty of it. Finally TIF was joined by The Filth Wizard Mofra and oldmate in kicking 2 goals each.

    Sin City Swamprats 15.9 (99) defeated by Coney Island Warriors 16.6 (102)

    Round 14 was the first of the wacky shotgun rounds where there were games every day of the week. Didn't confront us much though, we still had a Sunday Friday 3 arvo date with the Sinners down their hole. And like the days, the match threads are getting shorter. Usual fare, only in abridged form. Apart from pretty lights in the night sky, perhaps the highlight of the week was the creation of the team sheet via Randomizor. Would it help confuse and/or annoy the sim as much as it confused and/or annoyed the bean counters over at QPMG? Indeedly doodly!

    We were up to our usual tricks early doors by conceding goals in the opening minute, however we put on a 7 goal to 4 first quarter to start hot with a 20 point first quarter lead. That would turn out to be the only quarter of the match that we would win, but instead of taking advantage of the sim's now-patented generosity towards our opposition, the 'Rats took nibbles at our lead instead of big-mouthed bites. The 20 point lead became 10 at half time and 5 by three quarter time, and even became a 3 point deficit with 3 minutes and change left in the match. Then this happened...

    And just like that we won our fifth game of the season!

    We were still sitting on the penultimate position on the ladder with two rounds remaining, but crazily could still make finals should the planets align.

    toxic (25 disposals/7 tackles/3 goals0 rolled back the clock with a BOG performance, as did zackah but his performance was more cuddly thanks to 9 tackles so expect his name to turn up on Mobbs night. Others to do well include Stokey (25 disposals/11 marks), Freofalcon (20 disposals/11 marks/1 goal), Mesc (25 disposals/5 marks), FootyGuy13 (17 disposals/4 marks/1 goal) & Ocha905 (18 disposals/5 marks). TubbsFarquhar was the chief scoreboard destroyer with 4 goals while TheInjuryFactory joined toxic with kicking 3 each & ya boi kicked 2 including the aforementioned match winner. Not all heroes wear capes, but I have a towel tied around my neck.

    Baghdad Bombers 17.6 (108) defeated by Coney Island Warriors 22.8 (140)​

    The penultimate match of season 37 was a trip to Abdu Prison to face a Baghdad outfit who were vying with us for the spoon that is wood. But because of a hastily-coupled farce of a fixture, our week began on a Friday 7 and finished on a Friday 4 so we only got half a round. We did however make the most of that half round by enjoying a busier fred than the previous two despite having fewer days in which to contribute to it.

    Once game day finally arrived the Dragon gave us cloudy conditions and a fast start, with a 6 goal to 2 opening quarter giving us a 26 point lead at the first change and from there we didn't relinquish the lead although we did try in the last quarter. Our lead was as much as 38 points before dropping down to 6 halfway through the final quarter, before kicking the next five goals and finishing 32 points to the good.

    A tight bottom end of the ladder still saw us with a chance of making finals despite remaining in 12th place, however our win confirmed the utensil of doom for the Babylonians. But yeah, there was still hope.

    Plenty of Wazzas filled their proverbial boots, most notably FootyGuy13 (35 disposals/8 marks/3 tackles/1 goal), spudmaster (33 disposals/8 marks/3 goals), pantskyle (33 disposals/5 tackles/2 goals), zackah (26 disposals/9 marks/4 tackles/1 goal), Piggy Smalls (27 disposals/9 hitouts/3 tackles/1 goal), TheInjuryFactory (21 disposals/5 marks/1 goal, Stokey (18 disposals/4 tackles/3 goals) & TubbsFarquhar (12 disposals/4 marks/2 goals).

    And so it came to this Wazzas. A final round of the season 37 home and away season where not only did we have to win to make finals, but a bunch of other results had to go our way.

    We were away at Mount Buller in a round where everyone seemed to have a milestone. toxic was playing game 200, Piggy Smalls was playing game 150, The Filth Wizard was playing his 50th for us, and on the other side of the hill cooney was racking up his 500th. So the regular japes between the two most loved posting units in the SFA ensued.

    Then the fateful day arrived. Long story short, we won. Slightly longer version, we kicked three of the four goals of the first quarter and pretty much kept that lead for the remainder apart from a 7 minute period somewhere in the middle.

    So we kept up our end of the deal. So did the Demons who let us win, and so did the Hawks who lost to the Bombers, and so did the Furies who lost to the Royals. All that was left was for Roy to beat the Bears, and we'd sneak into eighth place on the ladder. Was the great heist on?

    FootyGuy13 was probably best on for us thanks to 29 disposals, 9 marks & 3 tackles closely followed by spudmaster (24 disposals/7 marks/1 goal) and TheInjuryFactory (24 disposals/2 goals). pantskyle (23 disposals/4 tackles/1 goal) did enough in this game to cement a second Mobbs Medal, I got 3 Mobbs votes for some reason, The Filth Wizard kicked four goals and Reginald Perrin kicked two while Piggy Smalls won the ruck contest.

    Round 14 was the first of the wacky shotgun rounds where there were games every day of the week. Didn't confront us much though, we still had a Sunday Friday 3 arvo date with the Sinners down their hole. And like the days, the match threads are getting shorter. Usual fare, only in abridged form. Apart from pretty lights in the night sky, perhaps the highlight of the week was the creation of the team sheet via Randomizor. Would it help confuse and/or annoy the sim as much as it confused and/or annoyed the bean counters over at QPMG? Indeedly doodly!

    We were up to our usual tricks early doors by conceding goals in the opening minute, however we put on a 7 goal to 4 first quarter to start hot with a 20 point first quarter lead. That would turn out to be the only quarter of the match that we would win, but instead of taking advantage of the sim's now-patented generosity towards our opposition, the 'Rats took nibbles at our lead instead of big-mouthed bites. The 20 point lead became 10 at half time and 5 by three quarter time, and even became a 3 point deficit with 3 minutes and change left in the match. Then this happened...



    Then there was a dramatic pause, then this...



    Then some other stuff happened, and finally...



    And just like that we won our fifth game of the season!

    We were still sitting on the penultimate position on the ladder with two rounds remaining, but crazily could still make finals should the planets align.


    toxic (25 disposals/7 tackles/3 goals0 rolled back the clock with a BOG performance, as did zackah but his performance was more cuddly thanks to 9 tackles so expect his name to turn up on Mobbs night. Others to do well include Stokey (25 disposals/11 marks), Freofalcon (20 disposals/11 marks/1 goal), Mesc (25 disposals/5 marks), FootyGuy13 (17 disposals/4 marks/1 goal) & Ocha905 (18 disposals/5 marks). TubbsFarquhar was the chief scoreboard destroyer with 4 goals while TheInjuryFactory joined toxic with kicking 3 each & ya boi kicked 2 including the aforementioned match winner. Not all heroes wear capes, but I have a towel tied around my neck.
