    Round One - Away vs The Swamprats

    Evening Wazzas. Another season means another bunch of my match reviews, an occasion where I reflect on the week just gone and prepare you for the week to come.

    Well that was a week. We welcomed some new faces to the joys* of match threads, we rediscovered some tried and true routines and we were treated to a rousing rendition of Elton John's poignant classic 'Candle In The Wind'. The fact that 21 of us turned up was an outstanding result, but not the only one of the week.

    Coming into this match we were on a three game winning streak and had won our previous encounter against the Sin Citizens, but the other side to that coin was the unnerving fact that we had not won a round one match since season 32. And when the hosts put seven goals on us in the first quarter there looked to be a familiar feeling coming from the sim. We however managed to even things up by the half, and we also won the final two quarters to salute to the tune of 26 points. It's our first round one win in ages, and the last time we did it... we made a prelim.

    We ended up the round in fourth place, with an opportunity to knock off the ladder-leading Gumbies in round two who we also beat in our last encounter. Everything's comin' up Wazzas!!!

    Coach The Donald made a few in-game changes, including moving former Mobbs Medallist Freofalcon from a back pocket to ruck rover. And the veteran repaid the faith with a 28 disposal/7 tackle/2 goal game to be arguably best on for us. Plenty others had decent games including ruckspud spudmaster (21 disposals/14 hitouts/3 tackles/1 goal), FootyGuy13 (19 disposals/6 marks/4 tackles/1 goal), TheInjuryFactory (22 disposals/6 tackles/1 goal), Ocha905 (23 disposals/7 marks), Reginald Perrin & pantskyle (23 disposals/1 goal each). raffrox was the pick of the debutants with a Clivesqe 17 disposal/6 mark/2 goal effort with Barrybran (14 disposals/1 goal) & brian_muz (11 disposals/3 marks/2 tackles) also performing admirably. Up front it was pocket porky Piggy Smalls who did the most damage with three goals while Dinsdale Falc raff & oldmate all kicked a brace each.

    Round Two - At Home vs the Gumbies


    Last time we met: Round 10, Season 37

    Gumbies FFC 13.14 (92) were defeated by Coney Island Warriors 17.14 (116) at the House of Gumby    ​

    Seems like last week I was asking you for votes, yet here we are again. For those new to these parts, those returning to these parts or those who've drank from too many aluminium cans and have drank from too many aluminium cans, the Frankston Rover Medal is Coney Island's Best & Fairest award - one of two awards named in honour of club founder, inaugural captain and league Hall of Famer Frankston Rover.

    So what I do at this point is ask you for who you think the best performing Wazzas were last week, and then get you to rank them by assigning them votes - 5 for the best down to 1 for the fifth best. These traditionally have leaned towards on-field heroics but can also take into account off-field activity in match threads and team communications (thread & PM). The Big 4 consulting firm of Bob 'n' Guy then take the votes and turn them into a Medal.

    Please do your best to send them in each week and help us to identify the performances from the previous round that are most deserving of recognition. And if you can, please tag me in when you vote along with the #FrankstonRoverMedal hashtag in order to help me collate the votes once the season's done and dusted.

    The other thing we run is the Pwned Trophy, which has been described as an award given "to the player who makes the opposition melt the hardest and the rest of us laugh our arses off. It is one of the club's highest honours, passed down through the generations of Wazzas in recognition of their services to lulz".

    I honestly don't know where to start with round one. I mean there's 69 pages to go through, with 21.23% of it being the aforementioned candle. I'm just gonna call this one a team effort. Feel free though to go back through the thread and find your personal favourite posts to nominate.
