Round Seven - Away vs the Bombers

Hey Wazzas, we're halfway through the season so let's see what round eight looked like.

We were on the road again, which doesn't seem to faze us given we've won the last six away games before going to Abdu Prison. We were up against a Bombers outfit that had only just popped their qooty cherry the previous week so were keen to not let that happen again, if you believe the rhetoric they produced during the week.

For us the week was about one thing - celebrating the second multi-milestone event of the season as The Filth Wizard was playing game number 400 and Reginald Perrin was playing exactly half that (still an impressive 200 games). It may not have gained as much traction as I would have liked but it did bring former Wazza Norm Landrover out from whatever bush he's been in. The sim has looked after us in previous multiple milestonings so it was only a matter of time before we found out if that trend would continue.

The first quarter was very promising, where we kicked six goals to the Babylonian one. The second quarter? Not so much - we kicked another three but conceded nine to finish the fist half a point down. The third was a bit better with us kicking six goals to five to both have 15 by three quarter time (although we had 10 behinds to their one) to set us up for a close final quarter. However it was not close. The Bombers kicked another four goals, but we kicked another ten! So by the time the Rubenesque woman starter belting one out we were 47 points to the good!!!

Our biggest score in quite a while saw us do absolutely nothing on the ladder, as we remained in third place.

Another week where spudmaster was unceremoniously dumped from the ruck. Fortune favours the potatoes though as he landed on TheInjuryFactory again, and proceeded to have a 34 disposal/10 tackle/1 goal game which was an equal career high game for disposals, career high for tackles and one point off a career high DT game. Ocha905 (22 disposals/6 tackles/ 3 goals) continued his fine form, brian_muz (30 disposals/5 marks/3 goals) played by far the best game of his 8-game career, while pantskyle (25 disposals/5 marks/2 tackles/1 goal), Purple7x08_24 (21 disposals/14 hitouts/2 tackles/2 goals), FootyGuy13 (26 disposals/8 marks), toxic (22 disposals/8 marks) & Barrybran (19 disposals/9 marks/2 goals but conceding 5 frees) all had plenty of it. Up front The Filth Wizard (3 goals), Dinsdale (3 goals) zackah (2 goals) Freofalcon (2 goals) & Piggy Smalls (2 goals) joined Ocha, brian Purple & Baz as the nine Wazzas who kicked multiple goals.

Round Nine - At Home vs the Habsburg Jaw having Royals

Evening Wazzas, we have another review ahead of us so let's so let's take a look back.

We were back at home after our latest successful double-headed road trip, and speaking of weird heads we were hosting the Royals in the second match of the round that involved us this season. We learned about Charles II of Spain, the Brundlefly of Medieval European Nobility. We learned about the cartoon character Top Cat. And we received a refresher course on student welfare in Tully, specifically what not to do. And before you could say "The Education Department would like a word Mr Guts", game day landed on our shores once again.

We've been on a weird run since late last season where we lose every game we play at home and we win every game we play away. Thankfully the Grand Final is not at Van Cortlandt Park! And that run continued in round nine in what was a closely run game of qooty in warm conditions, though you wouldn't know it looking at the stats. We swapped four goals each in the first quarter, kicked another one each in the second, they kicked three to our one in the third and we kicked four to their three in the last. Scores were even level after some putz missed a shot on goal 11 minutes into the last, but alas we ended up falling short by five points. In good news though, we remained steady in third place on the ladder.

Paracleet wandered away from a back pocket and helped himself to 28 disposals, 3 marks & 2 tackles to be best on for us. Ocha905 (19 disposals/6 tackles) continued his fine season while Barrybran (13 disposals/5 marks/3 tackles/1 goal), TubbsFarquhar (15 disposals/7 marks) and oldmate (21 disposlas/7 marks/2 tackles) also got a bit of it. Up front it was The Filth Wizard and Piggy Smalls who did the best with two goals each.

Round Ten - At Home vs The Bears

Hey Wazzas, wanna read a review? If so then read on. jk, don't care if you do or not imma write it anyway so I have something for Frankie night

So we got to round ten, and we were at home for the second week in a row which was good because we got to sleep in our own beds and also not good because we'd forgotten how to win at home. We were entertaining the Las Vegans (Spanish for 'the vegans'), who were having a crummy old season and somehow convinced that we were as well. But like a wise man once said, it's never as good or as bad as it seems. And for us that meant whether we were playing at home or away, so the Bears probably had a point.

If bears have taught us anything, it's that they're a funny old fellow. And from the capo captain through to the onomatopoeic rookie they're a pretty funny bunch. Even Rappin' Ronnie has his moments, no matter how irregular & rhymeless they may be. So that made for a pretty fun week, and by all accounts our visitors enjoyed the Cyclone and glizzies.

But all things come to an end, and with this we made it to Game Day. It was a close game for for first two and a half quarters, but then we thought enough was enough and we kicked 10 of the last 14 goals of the game to salute by 32 points by the end on a rare match where we won every quarter. It meant that we remain in third place on the ladder, two points behind second and six behind first who we meet this coming week.

In what has been something of a rarity this season, coach The Donald allowed spudmaster (23 disposlas/19 hitouts/3 goals) & TheInjuryFactory (29 disposals/4 tackles) in their asigned positions for the entire match. pantskyle (28 disposals/10 marks/2 tackles/2 goals) also benefited from not being moved, brother The Filth Wizard kicked six goals in his best return for the season so far, while Ocha905 (17 disposals/7 tackles/1 goal), brian_muz (14 disposals/6 tackles/3 goals), Barrybran (18 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), Purple7x08_24 (18 disposals/6 marks/2 tackles) & ya boi (18 disposals/6 marks/3 tackles/2 goals) all had plenty of it. FootyGuy13 & Paracleet also joined in on the goalfest with two each.

Round Eleven - Away vs the Demons/Delons/Frogs/White Bread/Other

Evening Wazzas, we got some review for dinner. Come get some...

We were back on the road in round eleven after our drought breaking home win, and given the run of eight consecutive road wins we were on it would stand to reason that we would swap one ended run with another. And given that we were also heading up the hill to face the ladder leading Mount Buller Demons, the odds of us finding a pothole in the road were considerably shorter.

The week itself was full of the sort of frivolity that one would come to expect from our two clubs. The hosts were represented by the former Warrior skipper, the muppet, the quaffer, the pastry, a cat, the returning veteran, a Christmas chicken, unrequited Bill Hicks quotes and Shemp Hemsworth among others. It even inspired a matching set of beehive hairdo avatars courtesy of the most obscure album cover in Christendom. Well worth the hike up the mountain, I'm sure you'll agree.

Then before you could say "nothing says lovin' like something fresh out the oven", it was Game Day. The sim gave us warm weather and a cagey first quarter which ended up even. The second quarter was not even, and our hot away form went into overdrive as we kicked 8 goals to 3 to take a 27 point lead into the second half. We increased it by a point by the final change and then decided that'll do as we kicked a solitary goal in the final quarter but by then the hosts were tuckered out as well, kicking three to reduce the margin to 16 points by the time the freaking siren blew.

The win, our ninth in a row away from Van Cortlandt Park, saw us overtake the Furies into second spot on the ladder as we prepare to take a well deserved rest in round 12.

Who would have thought that if you keep a ruckspud in his nominated position that he would become good at ruckspudding? Well that's what's happening with spudmaster who continued his hot form thanks to 24 disposals, 14 hitouts, 3 tackles and 3 goals to be best on for us. He also provided plenty of balls (hee hee) to TheInjuryFactory (25 disposals/5 tackles/1 goal) & Ocha905 (21 disposals/6 tackles/1 goal). Freofalcon (19 disposals/4 marks/2 tackles) was the best of the backs while Dinsdale brian_muz Piggy Smalls Reginald Perrin & The Filth Wizard all kicked two goals each. Coach The Donald decided though to chuck Filthy to full back and he may or may not kicked a couple of extra sausagerolls for the hosts.

Round Thirteen - At Home vs the OOFs

Top o' the evening Wazzas, we're so back but at the same time we so never left so let's talk about last week.

We emerged from the bye refreshed, revitalised and rejuvenated thanks to the traditional round 13 OP from FootyGuy13. That lasted for exactly one day, as the Old Farts came to town. This was the first of the reverse fixtures which is totally bonkers given we haven't played all of the other teams yet. So a week of artificial camels, artificial stout, artifical bravado, artificial activity bantz and dad jokes from multiple sources it was. I did catch up for frothies with one of them though so swings and roundabouts.

And like all weeks game day appeared. It was a cloudy day at Van Cortlandt Park, which normally augurs well for the spectators but the statisticians crack the shits about it as they have to work overtime. And overtime they did. Sixteen goals were kicked in the first quarter alone, and 25 by the half - 12 to us and 13 to them. It was the third quarter though where the magic happened, as we kicked another nine (9) goals to the Ophidian three to see a 6 point deficit turn into a 36 point lead by the final change. Another 5 goal to 4 final quarter saw us salute to the tune of 44 points. We did the double over the cult, and in the process both squared the overall ledger and had our first home victory against them.

But that's not all! The win, coupled with the Delons getting done by Roy, meant that we finished the round atop the summit that is the SFA ladder!

A statistician's nightmare means that plenty of us filled our boots. The forward line was potent as heck with The Filth Wizard kicking seven goals in a season best performance, CHF Dinsdale (22 disposals/9 marks/3 goals) but in a Carey-like performance, the flankers in Barrybran (21 disposals/5 marks/3 goals) and brian_muz (18 disposals/9 marks/4 goals/2 hitouts even) ran amok. The midfield were busy also, with FootyGuy13 (25 disposals/5 marks/2 tackles/2 goals), spudmaster (17 disposals/18 hitouts/5 tackles/1 goal), pantskyle (28 disposals/7 marks/1 goal), Ocha905 (17 disposals/5 tackles/2 goals) & oldmate (28 disposals/4 marks/4 tackles/1 goal/a whopping SIX frees against) doing the needful. And debutant Wazza brahj kicked his first goal for us... and his first two behinds!

Round Fourteen - Away vs the Gumbies

Evening Wazzas, it's review o'clock again.

We went back on the road in round 14 for our second double up game of the season, this time visiting the House of Gumby in the Match of the Round. The usual suspects were doing their thing for the hosts including the current beez trophy winner, the original beez trophy winner and the name-dropping goose. Things took a turn however when the conversation moved to an incident which has been coined the 'Tasmanian Trout Incident' (don't look it up on a work device - I did it once and I think I got away with it). Working blue seems to suit the blue plasticine people so were up against it. There was also the trend of the ladder leaders (us) being beaten, along with a 350-game-sized milestone to overcome courtesy of zackah.

When the game day rolled around we were assigned the former Warriors captain to work the zeroes and ones in warm conditions. And it turned out to be an evenly fought encounter. The teams couldn't be split after the first quarter, and again after the second quarter. The hosts led by two points at the final change though, and got to a 17 point lead midway through the final quarter before leading by 12 points with three and a half minutes remaining. We did have the last two shots on goal courtesy of pantskyle and Reginald Perrin which, if kicked truly would have finished the match as it was at the start, at quarter time and at half time... even. Unfortunately they did not kick truly, so we finished the match 10 points in the red and in second place on the ladder.

There were a couple of firsts in the game, revolving around the positional swap between winger FootyGuy13 and ruckspud spudmaster. spud (18 disposals/1 hitout/2 tackles/2 marks) took his first marks of the season, while FootyGuy13 (12 disposals/1 mark/4 tackles/7 hitouts) brought up the first hitouts of his 144 game career. Freofalcon (22 disposals/10 marks/1 tackle) was the best of the defenders, pantskyle (20 disposals/5 marks) TheInjuryFactory (15 disposals/7 tackles/1 goal) & Purple7x08_24 (12 disposals/7 tackles) were the pick of the mids and The Filth Wizard (4 goals) & Piggy Smalls (3 goals) were the best up front.
