Re: Congratulations Adam Coney 2008 Brownlow Medalist

FWIW the haters in this thread are not only GFC fans.

These were found in just the first three pages from supporters of other teams:

Worse winner ever.

Haha, what a joke.

Pathetic winner.

What an absolute JOKE.

Ablett deserved it, I can't believe this shit. Bartel barely got a mention, the system is a disgrace.

Agree. What a farce.

The Brownlow means nothing.

Really do not understand this.

I think he was a deserving winner. :)

As a 2008 AA "starting 18" player he's cool IMO. :thumbsu:

Woewodin was never in the AA 22.:thumbsdown:

I stopped caring too much about the Brownlow in 1995 when Liam Pickering had the second most disposals in the league yet he didn't poll one single vote.

Brett Ratten was Carlton's B&F in their 20-2 1995 season and also didn't receive a single vote.

Well done to Cooney.

Had a fantastic season and showed this year that he will soon be considered among the elite midfielders in the competition. Still only 22 with lots of improvement to come.

Personally I had to feel sorry for Gaz. He came so close and he looked genuinely disappointed. It must have been hard going into two Brownlow counts as the favourite and not winning either of them. Still he's only 24. Lots of time in front of him and it was still a fantastic achievement to poll 22 votes from 18 games.

Good on him.

Hopefully he's like Paul Kelly and while he is a surprising winner who wasn't quite at the elite level, he proved worthy of the Brownlow tag when he stepped up huge over the next few years.

How can anyone complain about Ablett? I would've thought the fact that he finished so high despite the injury would indicate that the umpires felt that his 18 game year was almost better than anyone else's 22 game year?

So to say that the umpires must not like him is ridiculous. If he had played those four games, they (the umps) probably would've had him several votes clear of everyone else....

But well done to Cooooon..... Has been a favourite of mine for a while, so to see him win was great. He had a wonderful season. Definitely a worthy winner, no matter what any pissed off Geelong fan or other fool says.... :thumbsu:

Don't think he should have won it but oh well, have umpires voting on teh award and you'll always get f***ed results.

Anyway, the bloke is funny.

I wonder how Scotty West must be feeling

i think a lot of them are becoming very cocky and arrogant and full of themselves after last years success - which is sad !
I find Geelong ssupporters really bad these days.

At the start of the year (I think it was the 20/20 at the MCG) I was standing in line at the MCC with 2 Geelong supporters about my age, the whole time I was talking to them about Geelong after they found out I supported Collingwood was "how bad Geelong played that night and how they'll flog us next time". We all know Geelong are a awesome side, we see it every game, but come on, ever Essendon supporters win with more grace.

It seems as though Cooney's first half of the year has been ignored in much the same way that the Bulldogs were in the same period.

Ablett was better in the games he played. Franklin was better in the games he played.

But Cooney's start to the season was phenomenal. Sure, Ablett was unlucky to miss a few games. And sure, the Brownlow has a history of not being awarded to the best and fairest.

But as someone who watches a lot of football, with an obvious bias for the Dogs, Cooney's first half (the half in which he polled most of his votes) makes him more than worthy of the win.

And those saying he wasnt even in the best 6-7, thats a joke. Name them?

Re: Congratulations Adam Coney 2008 Brownlow Medalist

I wanted Richo to win but he was very unlucky, he had a pretty good game in rd 22 so i was expecting some sort of votes.

Richo had his worst game for the season in round 22 against Melbourne. It was round 21 v Freo he should have got votes but didn't.

But I'm sure other players could say the same.

Cooney is a worthy winner. I'm disappointed Richo didn't tie with him, but c'est la vie, he'll win next year at 34. He's proven there's absolutely no reason why he can't :thumbsu:

Worse winner ever.

Certainly one of! The Bulldogs have had quite a few average brownlow medalists of late, Brad Hardie, Tony Liberatore, Scott Wynd... and now Adam Cooney!

This is the exact reason I don't watch the Brownlow medal night... except the t***ies popping out on the red carpet! ;)

Re: Congratulations Adam Coney 2008 Brownlow Medalist

The Brownlow Medal is for the best and fairest player in the competition. If it was given out to players who've helped their club have a succesful season, or who've given drive from the centre, then Brownlow Medals would be a dime-a-dozen.
Are you saying that Cooney was less "fair" than Ablett?

As a Bulldog supporter I know that nobody else every watches our players. Like that thread about Lake being a good defender last week. Well he won out B&F last year, a freakish thing to do for a full back but nobody form any other club recognised until we played ina pre-lim.

Chris Grant topped the Brownlow medal count from CHB. Something I don't think has ever been done, he also beat Robert Harvey that year and played almost as many games over all but people outside of the Bulldogs don't recognize him as the great he was.

Good lord.

The way Essendon people carry on about the likes of Long and Fletcher - as footballers not Cooney's arseh*le if Cooney's arseh*le was an exact DNA match of Long holding hands with Fletcher - if Cooney played for the Bombers he'd be the greatest player to have lived.

In fact, a spankfest to rival the deification of Hird would have erupted the moment he won, that much is undeniable.
