Congratulations on 100 Games Liam Jones

Liam has been outstanding in defence since returning to the club with consistent strong performances and all those marks Out Of Nowhere!

Good on ya!

I don't get it. Why isn't he being talked up? Everyone seems to be hyping up Roughead and Cordy yet forget about Jones. He was chosen as a #32 draft pick due to injuries meaning he could potentiallybe even better than anyone anticipated (Similar to J.Selwood/C.Judd) though I hardly hear about him. Is there any news on how he's training/playing? Could he be the future KP Power Forward option?

So a few people mentioned that the Channel Ten news have said that Liam Jones will be playing this week, god i hope its true :thumbsu:

This kid is going to be great, cant wait to see how he goes at the top level.

Kid's going to be a ripper once he grows into that body...

Can't find a link, but the club are reporting it via Facebook so it must be on the money.

Stats history: Liam Jones (AFL Tables)

After 5 games late in 2010, Jones managed 20 games in 2011 (only missing 2 games early in the year), taking out the award for most improved player. He lead the club in contested marks (43), well ahead of Barry Hall (19) and took a respectable 96 marks overall (3rd) including 27 inside 50 (3rd). Although not having a standout game, he managed 2 goals on 5 occasions against Richmond, West Coast, St.Kilda, Hawthorn and Fremantle. The last game earnt him a nomination for the NAB Rising Star award.

Jones's main strength is his contested marking. His field kicking and/or decision making needs improvement, but his goal kicking is reasonably accurate within 40m. An increase in leg strength should enable him to take shots from further out.

Do we thank Mick Malthouse for turning his career around? 100 games for us would have been seemed unlikely 10 years ago. He’s so reliable now, glad we have him.

Probably not, Malthouse got fired very early after Jones' move. Jones only played 7 games with Mick as his coach.

Amazing career trajectory though. Would've been delisted but he still had a year on his contract. Started playing ruck and then defence in the twos while they waited for his contract to end. Started dominating in defence and got a call up and has been a very good AFL player since. That's not even mentioning the COVID retirement as well.

Reading an article from when he was set to be recalled in 2017 and Gerard Healy had a quote that aged very well.

“This could potentially be an amazing story in football,” Healy told 3AW Radio.

“If you ask anybody in the footy world, his career was dead, buried, over. But in the last four weeks, he’s been moved from the forwardline to the backline and he may very well be one of those geniuses that are failed forwards who become backmen.

“Last week he absolutely smashed Josh Bruce — he had 30 disposals, 16 spoils and eight intercept marks along with 16 intercept possessions.

“His career is over — unless someone looks at the numbers and says ‘I’m going to give him another chance.’

“Liam Jones was gone. But he might be just arriving.”

Anyways, hopefully LJizz returns next week and we get to celebrate his 100th Dogs game against the Blues.

Would be pretty nice to play your 100th against your old mob after his playing journey imo.

Playing for his old mob against his old mob!

Club should dig up some of his old "this or that" clips with team-mates from his first stint with us and play them on the scoreboard pre-match! Jonesy was invested early in social media.
