From the opposite view there's plenty from our side who would prefer to keep 12 and 14 in a really strong draft and get 2 very good (hopefully) players. Always interesting the different views.

How about this view:

12 and 14 means we effectively downgrade 3 to 12 for Liam ******* Baker.

There is no different perspective on this turd of a deal. It's being fueled by VFL media as they can't accept that Baker won't go for overs and hard to believe eagles actually being dumb enough to do such, despite the fear on here.

Carlel can day dream about pick 3 all they want.

Baker is a very good player, perfect for our midfield and a great foil for Reid but the only reason you would give up big draft currency for him is if we genuinely think we have a contending squad in the next three years (which we don't).

Otherwise the goal is pretty straight forward. Every year we are bottom four we have to give ourselves the best chance of finding future top ten players in the entire AFL. It's hard enough to do that without squandering first rounders on a 27 year old.

Same goes for pick three. I reckon Ginbey and Hewett have long careers ahead and I won't speculate on what they could be, however Sheezel is a lock down multiple AA star and Harley Reid likewise. All of our top 5 draft picks in our history have been guns. Far too valuable to split.

Chris Masten at 2007 pick 3 was solid but no gun.

Would it not be more logical to first offer our F1 to GWS for 15 and 16 then?

I’d trade it to GCS or Saints for 6/7, but that’s it.

Not convinced - Adelaide turned their nose up at our F1 for Dan Curtin in a spoon year for us.

Future picks are not valued as high as current picks.

Our own f1(likely top 4 pick) would get 8 or 9 plus extras from the Saints or bombers

Id offer our f1+f2 for 9+bombersf1
Bombers need to get rid of pick 9 anyway

Yep - so it's their job to convince Baker to pursue Plan B, which shouldn't be very hard if Baker really wants his team to be well compensated..

Reckon by around 5 or 6 Baker is gonna be a favourite of this Board. Think he’s being criminally underrated by most.
I think he’s only worth a 2R but even if we end up overpaying reckon he’s gonna add a lot to the team next year. IMO he is exactly what the team needs to set standards and show some grit as we start the upswing. I’m looking forward to getting him onboard. Fork knows how it ends up happening though.
