I reckon we throw up offers for tim english and aaron naughton from the dogs and build around them.
If the number 1 pick is split to 3 first rounders we can offer the dogs something tempting with a player thrown in.
We have the money to pay those 2 with the retirments of hurn shuey mcgovern nicnat etc in the next year or so.
We jave to start winning it out of the centre and stoppages and these 2 will go a long way to helping with this along with some high draft picks.

Otherwise by the time we challenege again barrass and allen will be past their prime.

Or we get them via FA with no draft picks (at least english anyway)

That’s the last thing we should be doing, we consider trades like that at the end of 2025, not right now where we’ll almost certainly be utter shit for another 2 years at the minimum.

You realise Aaron Naughton is key forward right. Not sure how that's going help the ball come out of the centre. Tim English isn't worth giving up Harley Reid for. Rucks are a position easily obtained unlike finding quality mids.
What we need is a superstar midfielder that does the work inside and out and gets the ball out.

Don't like splitting picks for duds like Naughton. Also I think Bulldogs would want more then just pick 1 for both of them.
More I think about it the more I think it's a horrible idea. Burn it. Burn it with fire right now.

If we can be bold enough to assume a normal run with injury next year then surely a conversation has to be had with Gaff towards the end of the season telling him that, assuming a full list, he is no longer best 22 and therefore is not guaranteed a game. Give him the option of pulling the pin and negotiating a settlement (maybe coupled with the club offering whatever help it can with whatever he wants to do next in his life after footy) or continuing on for one last year next year with the risk of being dropped to the WAFL side.

I expect he would just opt to play on. 95% of the time players in his situation would. But if we clearly explain to him where he is in the pecking order at towards the end of the season and offer him a dignified off ramp then there can't be any bitter tears and hard feelings towards the club next year if he plays on and we have to drop him. It also gets out of the way any expectation he might have of any further contracts and trying to get to 300 games.

He deserves to be treated with respect. It's not his fault. Father Time catches up with all of us. But at the same time we have to be honest with him and we have to make rational decisions with the club's interests at the forefront with the list and the 22.

Being completely honest I reckon Gaff would struggle at an amateur level.

I'm actually shocked that a player like Gaff is able to continue playing at AFL level and get payed for it. His so bad right now he would get destroyed in the WAFL.

With his top speed of walking pace and lack of any strength or athletic ability I don't think he'd be an auto selection for a few WAFL sides. 100% we should be delisting at season end. Might sound harsh but we can't carry these dead wood types into next season. Rebuild and move on completely.

You don’t tell him he runs the risk of being dropped… you tell him your not getting picked like Adelaide have done with Matt crouch unless the whole side is injured…

We need a replacement for darling. Hes not getting any younger and seem to be falling off a cliff even when fit.
We also need a quality ruckman now.

If both are free agenets we dont need to give up any picks

They’re not, so we would.

I would go after English, Naughton and Taylor who will all be free agents in the next few years.

Spend all the draft capital on the draft and strike in '26/27 while Barrass, Kelly, Allen, Sheed, Ryan are around.

MSD any reason why Kobe Ryan is no longer a favourite? I don’t understand the rationale of Maric when we have Waterman. What’s the point? And shouldn’t we have a free hit at Gilbey, local kid had talent and might come along.

We are shit for **** sake, why rush Cripps and Culley just tell them to focus on recovery and put them on the LTI.

And with todays game,Pick 1 is that little closer. Reid or godfather offer there is no in between, Pick within the top 5, and two in the top 10 or split for one this year and a future first.

So it could be Mckersher, Watson and Curtin!

I can only think of two sides that would have that capital GWS and Hawks? Also Pick 1 comes with the benefits of PSD, offer R3 and R4 for Sheldrick and Robertson.

I understand wanting a Darling replacement but is it that urgent to do it this off season. I would do that possible next season's draft or the one after. Might not even need two tall key forwards if we get some quality smalls in there. Modern game seems to be steering a bit away from having massive tall forward lines and going with quick fast athletic midfield slash forwards.

Our Midfield is seriously lacking in the most important area of the game. The modern game is pretty much built upon midfields. Every side in the comp as a decent midfield. We have easily the worst that it's become an emergency for us to get that fixed in the off season. Our forward half I actually don't mind. We just don't get enough supply to them. If we fix the middle and be at least half competitive it would go a long long way for turning our fortunes around. Basically all I see is Tim Kelly only.

The rest in our middle are either sheep's that sit back and wait for the ball receive or just won't go in hard enough. If it's not been given to them they go missing. Need some fast hard tough nuts. We need more Tim Kelly's in there.

What i'd give for a Matt Priddis.
Someone that just goes hard, gets the ball and distributes.

Kelly is more outside than inside.
Ginbey and Culley currently are defensive but not see ball get ball.
Edwards/Trew/XON are outside.

Pies did this with Tom Mitchell. Seems to be working well for them.

Listen, this is what we need to do, that's if we even get pick #1, Norf tanking too.

Harley Reid is a generational talent, period. He would of went pick #1 last year as a bottom ager, think about that, and he's in't a KPP.

Harley Reid requesting a trade in 2 years time if that happens, the offers on draft night will still be there in 2 years time. So why help another club and not get the best player.

The only team that can facilitate a trade that i would consider is Norf, and im not talking their first and PA first. It would need to be those 2 picks plus their first next year with our second rounder and potentially our first second going back. Even then i wouldn't potentially do it.
