I do agree with Goss. Williams is a Fwd/Ruck and not a Ruck/Foward.

English will help elevate the young kids straight away. Win/win imo
Im not sure on that. The more I see of Williams, the more I think his spot is as a 80% + TOG ruck. His forward craft is pretty bloody average but his work and grunt in the midfield is really starting to become damaging.
I've cooled on English. If Barnett does fulfill his potential then I really don't see the need for English at big $s (or any ruck for big $s for that matter). I'd rather save that coin to throw at replacement key forward like McDonald or Naughton.

I think it will happen this year.

WB being average and will want to shake it up. Especially if they think English is out the year after.

They will want to pick before FS Croft projected pick.
It's been discussed to death on our board, the Dogs would be insane to willingly trade English a year early while in a flag window, because him leaving completely ends any chances at a flag in the near future given it leaves us with Sweet and Lobb as our rucks... Better to keep him until free agency and take the lesser compo than to trade for anything less Pick 1, which the Eagles would be braindead to give up for him.

here's a crazy idea JUST TAKE REID FFS

As it stands it’s the most obvious option. Hold onto that pick like it’s gold

We need to keep an open mind to trading the pick but we should be waiting for offers to come and only accept something that would appear borderline ridiculous for a club to be offering

His free agency status means little if they match and force abrade next year.

If we split pick 1 and traded one of those picks for English 12 months earlier so be it.

He is one of the few players that could come in and help get us back to being more competitive straight away.

Plus English and Bailey would be a decent duo with one resting forward.
By 2025, our salary cap will allow us to pay substantially more than Dogs can afford. A genuine number 1 ruck for 5 years at $1.5 mln in year 1 and smooth out years 2 to 5. I do not think the Dogs can match especially if we get Naughton up to getting $1 mln as I believe they will prioritise him

From what I hear the "possible" go home fear with Reid isn't that big of a deal that the Vic media are making it out to be.

Do you think he could develop into a CHF potentially at AFL level?

I wouldn’t categorically rule it out but I think he is a very good defender.
Will be interesting to see where Claremont play him latter in the season after the Champs.

He is very much to watch as the year unfolds .

He does look like he'll be a pretty good player really.

Haven't seen the match yet, busy Sunday.

I was very keen to see if he played on Walter, looks like he did and did a very very good job on him. Early in that footage, there is a free kick to Walter for holding which should've been the other way as Walter had a huge chunk of his jumper. He won 85% of their contests, a few where the kick was too much to advantage that Walter won but not many defenders could've. Curtin back and very high in my thinking again...
Almost forgot his ball use, elite.

O'Sullivan, glad to hear he had a better game as his first game wasn't much. Seemed to be getting cheap ones at half back, rather than competing for kicks inside 50.

The other thing to keep in mind is when the next crop of stars come though we need to have funds to pay them.
I don't want to be sitting here bemoaning the fact we are tied to English on big coin and can't pay Reid or Allen or anyone else the coin they deserve because of it.

BBBW needs to work on his goalkicking if he wants to be classed as a m, but we need to avoid being sucked into that. He will artificially improve our team a year before we really want to ascend the ladder

Simple...just get BBBW into an intense kicking program over the off season.

It always is. Aside from a small handful (Wingard, Perkins, Smith), very few players would genuinely be an issue outside of GC and GWS recruits. And Reid isn't some soft**** privileged inner city Melbourne kid. If West Coast recruited him, I doubt he'd bail at earliest opportunity. The only ones I'd be genuinely concerned with recruiting are the Tasmanian kids given their impending entry into the competion

Im not sure they are in that window. I think they are a fair way off.

You do realise the dogs will request pick one for English.

We will end up with English, Suns 1st that the dogs have swapped for there two 1st rounders. And a future 1st

So English, pick 9, and a future late 1st pick(they probably play finals).

No thank you be absolutely nuts when you have a kid you can potentially build a team around for decade.

Kind of stuff Freo did back in 1995.
You do realise we then say no?

Question to those with better draft knowledge then me (whilst noting that their is a lot of junior football to be played before now and the end of the year), where do we currently place Colby McKercher and Ryley Sanders on the draft boards?
Not touted as best mates, but have presumably played a lot of footy together, recruiting two Tasmania's, much like the Suns recruiting two Victorians in Long and Rowell, could stop the go home factor when Tasmania eventually joins the league?

I'm sure opinions will vary given it's subjective, and form has been pretty poor since beginning of 2022, but the Dogs made the GF in 2021, and still made finals last year, so if that's not "in the window", what really is? Regardless, even if not in the window, it sure won't be opening any time soon if English leaves
