Mark ‘Robbo’ Robinson has written an article in the Australian proposing that Essendon go after Oscar Allen, throwing ridiculous money at him, and offer the Eagles their next two first round picks around 10-14.
Plus, and this is the best bit, they could throw in Kelly (Jake, recycled from Adelaide) or Hine.
He suggests Craig Vozzo as the Essendon insider with knowledge of Allen’s contract could provide them with leverage.

And this guy is supposed to be a credible football journalist?

If the club did anything like this it really would be ‘fold the club’ time.
Selling our most prized asset for two mid teen draft picks and Kelly or Hine?
It would be time to storm the barricades and force regime change.

You could've stopped reading at Robbo, but you'd have robbed yourself of a good chuckle

It's one of your worst hypotheticals I will say, though I understand the point you are trying to make - not that we should, but that's what WOULD get it done.

It is also a s**t idea.
I’m in the keep Barrass camp, so it’s really hard to see another way of getting both Curtin & Reid.

Of course another option is to trade out of pick 1 this year and get Curtin and something else, and give up Reid.

2 & 17 from North.
Or
3 and a future 1st from Hawks.

Maybe that's what we're doing
Yeah, probably just a case of Curtin being from WA and a top talent, so they're just connecting the dots, especially considering the pick swap last year.

WCE are famous for not giving anything away.

This is also the same Vic media, who have been pushing the line that Reid wants to stay in Vic, for a while now.

Look at how that backfired.

Not sure about that. From memory there have been three moments that have caused discussion on this. First was Harley himself on Cal's show Gettable saying in response to the question about relocating to Perth that he's a "family oriented guy". Second was Kane Cornes from Adelaide doing his shit stirring thing. Third was professional idiot McClure this last week. Only one of those is "vic media".

It's probably more the push for WCE to split the picks, due to 'concern' that Reid may want to stay in Vic, as opposed to them going full Sam McClure/Kane Cornes.

People talking about trading Barrass need to think less about what we'd get and more about who would play fullback for us next year.

Correct.

At this point assuming Gov plays chb its H Edwards, Jamison, Bazzo, and potentially Barnett as some have mentioned he could be a defender / ruck.

A fringe tall defender may come back our way in a DGB. Maybe we throw cash at Ratogolea. And we may draft another in Curtin.

Next mid season draft I expect we consider taking the best kp defender available.

Edit: Well it looks like this Carlton game is one when we have zero tall defenders. My eyes are hurting.......

And 2024 everyone knows will be a development year.

It reads like he's a strong chance of going....I love the big fella but I can see why both parties would agree to it.

We all see what we want to see, but I would have said it’s 80/20 that Barrass stays.

The only strong indication he will go is the amount of buzz in the media, yet when I listened to Nick Gieschen yesterday, it was you never say never but he is contracted, happy and focused at West Coast.

I guess other hear that and conclude he is gone because he didn’t deny discussion had happened.

We are also so used to the amount of lies within the industry, such as full support for Stuart Dew and within a week he is fired, that it’s impossible to believe anything.

I don't want us to pay a huge amount for a Ruckman or a defender if TB goes.

We can still get players like marking machine Ethan Phillips or Brayden Crossley who could add value for not a lot.
Crossley has agro and w***er factor too, which we need. He hits the scoreboard, tackles hard and can find a lot more of the ball around the ground, which is why I'd rather him than Sweet. Perfect age too.

Hopefully his nose would be put into retirement if given another crack at the big show.

Find value elsewhere for now, trade up for extra early picks and hit the draft hard, pick the eyes out of it. (I want all Reid, Curtin and Watson with either O'Sullivan or Murphy too...Plus Collard and Demattia). I'm aware we'd need to trade next years first to even make this a remote possibility.

I want it all!!!!

I still think he stays too, but there’s clearly genuine smoke.

Gavin Bell didn’t quash the rumours, which usually we do (we did it 2 years ago when Sydney first pursued Barrass)

Barrass’s manager, as you said, didn’t rule out a trade either

I am surprised Taylor Goad (U18 SA Ruckman) has not been mentioned here. He seems to be a good ruckman in the future to me. (though a bit skinny at the moment)
Agree with you on Goad and he has been mentioned by both Monocle and Eastcoasteagle

I see no need to go early with Mitch Edwards when Goad should be there with Ports r2 or later

Any chance of you three doing your own end of season trade / draft podcast episode?

You need North to get pick 3 in compensation for Mckay leaving, then you need to trade your future first for pick 2, giving you picks 1 and 2.

Reasons for trading your future first.
1a. The top of next years draft looks to be dominated by Vic Metro boys (ok so O'Sullivan boards in Melbourne, but is from Koroit).
1b. There aren't any West Australian rated at the very top.
Sid Draper?

Plus it's likely Pick 1 next year, so trading pick 1 next year for this years pick 2 is short sighted.
Say there are a few Vic metro boys who want to stay home, we can likely trade pick 1 for multiple picks next year.

Isn’t Edwards the better of the two?

And do we really think he will be going in the top 10, I thought the best ruckman usually come late R1 or early R2 (assuming pick 19) is on the money for for Edwards.

Can’t say I’ve watched any Claremont colts games but Bailey Banfield seems to know how to get his hands on the ball. Eagles might grab him as a rookie

Haven’t seen much discussion about Draper being in next year’s top 10 at this stage. Certainly first round.

I agree with all that.

I struggle to see how West Coast can get both Reid and Curtin, without giving up something, that a lot of people here will consider overs.

Unless we start winning the ball more in the middle and putting more pressure on up the ground when the opposition has the ball it doesn't matter who's playing full back, we're still going to get hammered

Sorry, the thread is moving a lot faster than my slow reading speed.

I am no expert in judging young talent, but from some of the U18 match replay, he showed good speed, jump high, high hit out accuracy. Also, he is quick in putting ball on the foot in kicking reasonably accurate forward too.
