I suspect Naughton will end up at Fremantle using the draft capital they get from Darcy leaving, either this year or next

That’s my best guess anyway

Personally not that interested in Naughton as he’d cost too much in draft picks when we’re still rebuilding
It may not matter now but Naughton was apparently very pissed off when he had to make way for Freo players when they dropped everyone back to Peel and won the WAFL flag in his draft year.

Lel. Garry Lyon was greasing palms with Harley Reid's parents on the weekend and believed the Demons offer to West Coast was being heavily considered, then we went and beat the Dogs. He accepts there's pretty much no way Norf will cough up that pick to them.

Just checking why so many posters are so sure that we will take Curtin. Just because he is from WA????

I expect the Pieman will happily back in McKercher, Watson, Duursma or Curtin at our pick 2.
Too much talk about it to not have any merit. We've been linked to him even with the #1 pick.
Just like the pick swap last year there was just too much talk from multiple sources for it not to have some basis on truth.

And I know we like to keep our cards close to our chest but not so much in recent seasons.

Chesser pick was leaked early
Pick swap was talked about as a done deal and eventuated.
Ginbey was talked up as our target and was proved correct

Same sort of rumblings about Curtin

So Hairy Gary on “on the couch “was just exposed as meeting with Harley Reid on the weekend and it seems he was discussing Melbourne and then offering to the eagles if we kept the first pick…. Slimy git

This is what Vic teams do.

Crows have said they will be targeting SA boys to return and no doubt in their ear pre draft.

Eagles really have to start playing these games.

In a competitive world (assuming (Norf do not get band 1 compensation), we have to be ready to pick the second best player in the draft and get Jed back to Perth. At that point, the Suns will need to sell off pick 4.

Now if we do a mates trade, we do not know who will be available at their pick 4 and hence the uncertainty. The big question is what will the Hawks do? If I was them, I would go Watson at 3 with a back up of Duursma. This is more in terms of list balance as I do not think they need McKercher. They probably would like Curtin as Granger Barrass looks a flop. That being the case, we take Curtin at 2 and do the trade for 4 with high expectation for McKercher. The discount for not picking Jed Walter at 2 and he goes at 3 is worth 226 points (incl discount) which is about pick 54.

That said, would the Hawks be listening to 10 and 17 for 3? It might need another sweetener for it to happen but not a big one. Then that throws a spanner in the works.

We cannot guarantee the Suns that Norf will not bid on Walter at 1 (maybe they have they learnt the no bid on Daicos error).
I doubt hawks take Curtin they have McCabe as a mid first round F/S

Lazy media always link us to WA draftees whether there’s grounds for it or not

That said, I’m sure we’re looking at Curtin because he’s a good player

We’ll also be looking at McKercher, Watson and Duursma for the same reason.

And I’ve no doubt we’ll continue talking to Harley even if it’s just on the off chance Brady Rawlings has an aneurysm on draft night

Right now, my preference is McKercher as the best player in our greatest area of need

It was only in the last week or so that we started getting linked to Chesser and it was really only the day of the draft when it became clear he was our target.

I think enough people have said we’re into Curtin to believe that we have interest. However a question is how much of that was based on the idea that Barrass may be leaving. And now he is staying, does that change at all?

The last few days I’ve hear numerous reports that we are keen on Duursma as well.

Lol suck shit Gary. The chance of getting Reid to Melbourne died with us beating bulldogs

I wonder if the Duursma interest comes from a potential trade back with Melbourne. He’s the likely candidate in that range. At least shows we’re not Curtin or bust if we were considering it

Nice post.

That just shows what having a fit list could put on the field.

And also how young we will get in two drafts.:thumbsu:

I think Robertson stays at Brisbane.

Would like his chances of featuring more prominently in the coming years as the likes Zorko shuffle off. He’s never actually made any noise about leaving either.

Plus once he officially re-signs, we get to finally ban ‘that guy’ from the Eagles board.

So who’s the real winners here?

there was talk he had a tour of the facilities a few weeks ago ..

Just holding out hope North can win this weekend, Reid was perfect in every way for the start of this rebuild.

Offer the Suns some Hungry Jacks stores to tank.

The Suns will be keen to impress Dimma I reckon after his glowing press conference ..

I expect the Pieman will happily back in McKercher, Watson, Duursma or Curtin at our pick 2.

Then we should split 2 and trade for the Suns 4 plus extras.

Reid North ( No way they risk bidding on Walters)
McKercher Suns
Walters Suns
Duursma Hawks
Eagles pick 4 > 5 Curtin, Watson

I think the list is starting to look a lot more balanced.

Would love to get our hands on the Suns pick. Really think that could fast track the rebuild.

Hope Chesser, Petch and co really kick on

Absolutely no way North win this week.

Pick 2 is fine, but going hard at the GC pick up for grabs is a must.

I'd rather come away with 2 top end talents and a few sleeper picks like Long late in the draft.

McKercher would be my preference too.

I know we’ll look at everyone but it seems like more than just an assumption.
Plus the last two years I’ve hoped all the media talk was wrong and they haven’t been. So I’m trying the reverse this year and expecting that they’re right.

I hope we take McKercher with 2 and then try to trade back into the first rnd if Curtin is still available and GC still hold their pick. Even if we have to add a future 2nd to our current 2nds and back ourselves to improve.
Worked out ok last time we did that with GC.
