Freo and Geelong both already announcing delistings…. I wonder why we are so slow at announcing ours?

The club does things in its own time.

It took until September 21 last year for West Coast delistings to be announced, so we could be waiting a while yet.

Not that there is any urgency, RFA offer period commences October 6, with trade period following on October 9.

Bingo, there's no prize for being the first club to get all their delistings done.

Only benefit is it gives people one less thing to whinge about, before moving on to their next target

Not surprised but disappointed Winder got cut.

Strung some good footy in the last 5 weeks for Beagles

Still young and shows more than Foley at WAFL level

So that's Hurn, Shuey, Nic Nat and Winder

I see us taking 4 in the ND, adding a mature ruck, Brockman, promoting Culley

At least 3 more to come, maybe a 4th?

Winder’s on the rookie list so he doesn’t open up a spot for the purposes of your exercise there

We also have Ryan on the LTI and brought in Maric. So I assume once fit, Ryan comes back onto the list meaning we need to cut another? Im not 100% sure thats how it works but suspect so.

Ryan never went onto the LTI, Culley did. Maric’s on the rookie list and can stay there for now.

We had 38 on the senior list, we’ve lost the three retirees. Foley, Clark and O’Neill are likely to go, SPS and Waterman (depending on his illness) are also out of contract and could join them. Witherden is out of contract but likely to get re-signed.

Rotham is contracted but would be a candidate to get demoted to the rookie list.

We have so many delistables but we can only axe so many of them. We have more juggling to do than most other clubs.

This is one way it could go.

Senior list: 38
Out: 3 retirees, 4 delistings (XON, Foley, Clark, SPS), 1 demotion (Rotham)
In: 4 draftees, Brockman, Robertson, Flynn/Sweet, Culley promoted
Retained: the other 30

Cat A Rookie list: 5 (needs to reduce to 4)
Out: Winder, Trew, West delisted, Culley promoted
In: Rotham demoted, 2 RD picks
Retained: Maric

I would be fine with West getting another chance to come back from his medial injury. My recollection is that he had developed into a pretty handy player as long as he played within his talents.

Nothing wrong with a scrapper or two on a rebuilding list - it can help teach the young talent that they can have an impact even on the days their skills aren't at their best. Stay on your feet, hit the contest, tackle, scrag, harrass. If there's one thing we do need a bit of, it is heart. Westy has that in spades IMO.

I'd be keeping SPS for another year as depth and drop one more to the rookie list, maybe Waterman if he is unlikely to be available to play for a bit while he recovers.

Put SPS on the rookie list

The unfortunate thing for West is to retain him we’d have to retain him on the main list and we’re running out of spots especially if we bring in 3 players from other clubs

Perhaps if we didn’t promote Culley this year as he can stay on the rookie list for now then keep West instead of SPS

Not sure that’s what I’d do but there’s a case for it

I didn't realise the rookie list scenario. Probably curtains for West on that basis.

We could always redraft him as a rookie. But he’ll have to be delisted in October if we’re not upgrading him (which presumably we’re not)

Like Clark, there is literally no point to keeping West, unless the club is actually going to commit to playing them in the guts. That's not going to happen with the development of Hewett and Ginbey, addiing Reid and hopefully Culley back in the not to distant future. They should be getting all the reps alongside Kelly and Yeo.

It’s good to wait to see if a player they used to like gets delisted from another team as well..

Finalising who the club can get as trade targets. Ie a verbal commitment from the players first.

Also as one of a few clubs that negotiate fixed $ rather than % of CBA agreements with players we are probably waiting for clarity on that also.

With some of our larger contracts ending now and over the next couple of seasons, if we can front end someone like Culley (not going to be sheep stations but it all helps) that could clear further space for FA chasing in 2024 and beyond.
