It's one of those situations where you're missing out on something either way; Oscar, or a high draft pick at a crucial time in the rebuild. The club will make the call, but I do know one thing...there's gonna be a lot of sooking on BF whichever way it goes.
Also a situation where you can't lose??

TBH my main worry with losing Allen is that we'll give up his compo for Warner. I'm worried we'll give up essentially everything half decent we have, given the way we handled trade week last week.
I would have thought that if we give up the Allen compo (let’s call it pick 4, based on finishing 3rd last in 2025), that would be quite reasonable. Would leave us with pick 3 (Rodriguez?) and Hawks 1st (Cody Curtin?). If we walk away with Warner, Rodriguez and Curtin, I reckon we’d have to be stoked with that.

I reckon they'd try for our 2nd also and then it would settle on next year's 2nd.

Is there a scenario where we could get those 3 AND Stacevich? Or do we have to lose the Allen compo?

Can't we just work with Oscar to go to Sydney in a swap for Chad if he wants out?

I'd expect their values to be pretty similar.

Maybe throw in a f3 for Corey and sign Starcevich as a FA?

Use our first and Hawks first on Rodriquez & Curtin (or ya no know, go best available, not cliche WA one eyed recruitment that we cry foul about being accused of).

Pick up our NGA/Father Sons and done.

Good deal for us but why would Sydney want to pay Chad for Oscar when they can pay nothing (draft capital wise) for Oscar?

Going down that path we’d be best to tell
Sydney to accept unders for Chad and in return we won’t match an offer for Oscar. But thsts not going to happen.

No sorry I meant i'm worried we'd give the Allen compo AND our first rounder or Hawks first.

It’s the Eagles. Apparently played well in the Roos match sims. Met with Clarke last week and has a good relationship with Mini.

Not sure he does it. I remember hearing him talk on trade radio and saying it would be a huge decision to move interstate for only 1-2 years with his young family. I believe he said he would want to get into lost management post career and that might help sway him.

We need some help there, but he’ll turn 32 before the end of the season. I’d rather take a punt on Brock or JVE to be honest.

Simply because we have literally no one else after like McGovern he should be a no brainer, but like Miguel says he's already 32. I dunno, would you rather a known commodity or try your hand at one of the young train ons?

I've never seen him play but a bloke called Nathan Cooper was fullback of VFL team of the year. He's 27. Profile from before last years VFL GF. I dunno but surely someone of this type is worth a look? Rather than 20 year olds or 32 a year old.

18. Nathan COOPER
Age: 27; Height: 195cm
VFL: Career matches/goals 56/0; Season matches/scores 14/0.0
VFL Team of the Year 2024; VFL State Team 2024
NEAFL: 45 matches

The best full-back in the competition, Cooper finally got his due recognition with selection in the VFL State Team at the start of the season and the Team of the Year at the end – a remarkable achievement given he missed six weeks with an ankle injury. A genuine stopper, expect him to stand beside former teammate Wylie Buzza at the first bounce – and Buzz will know he’s in for a tough day.

Melbourne will leverage the shit out of this, Freo will have zero capital for Chad. Expect 1R plus 2xF1 with one or two 2Rs going back.

Oh they will still stick their necks into any Warner deal offering futures just because they are campaigners.

Oh how glorious it would be if we did it to them as well.

Pickett? Warner? Sure, we'll take both. 🤣

If there was any doubt we were looking at filling our last list spot with a KPD then the Tomlinson news erases that completely

It makes sense -
McGovern (32, 191 games)
Edwards (24, 39 games)
Jamieson (24, 17 games)
Bazzo (21, 21 games)
Barnett (20, 2 games)

Behind McGovern our KPD stocks are largely unproven. Jamieson and Bazzo are also still working their way back from injury and it’s unclear if either will be available for R1. Edwards has only just made his way back from his own foot issue

The two players we’ve been trialling Brock (22) and Van Es (20) have yet to play at AFL level so are also very raw. Van Es also has a troubling injury history with his foot/ankle that would have to be a concern especially given the hard Lathlain training surface

Tomlinson (31) would give us a more experienced option having played 185 games although at 194cm he’s a bit undersized for a genuine KPD.

You’d have to think the club has reservations with Brock and Van Es if they’re still looking at other options like Tomlinson. From what I’ve seen of him at training, Brock is useful but I’m not sure he’s AFL standard. Haven’t seen enough of Van Es to form a firm opinion but he hasn’t stood out

Are we better off adding another unproven defender to our already long list of such players. Or add someone who’s more of a known quantity who can provide experienced support whilst the likes of Bazzo and Barnett develop

Tomlinson would provide an experienced presence in defence for the Beagles, the value of which shouldn’t be underestimated

He’s absolutely worth having a look at as a train on option

100% agree with everything you said.
Adding another unproven KDEF if Brock and Van Es haven't shown enough doesn't make sense at this point.
