Bailey averaged more hitouts in 2023 than Lycett ever did in his career. That includes Lycetts time at the Power. Sure he was impacted by Naitanui but it's not like he was ever a dominant ruck with us. He wasn't dominant at Port either. Just solid.

I'll agree that Lycett was a more consistent player than Bailey given his rucking style and achieved more as a forward. I still don't think he was light years ahead though.
Only my opinion but I'd say that a ruckman who is 36th in hit out win % (from recognised ruckmen on the AFL site) whilst also being 34th (again from recognised ruckmen) in hit out to advantage % is not a very good ruck. Just from watching him you can tell he's not a great ruck but the stats basically say he doesn't win the tap often enough and when he does win it doesn't go to one of our players anyway.

Also this is completely false, once Lycett moved to Port and out from under Nic Nat he averaged more hitouts per game every year than Bailey did this season

You’re right that Lycett was just solid. He was a top ~10-12 ruck in his prime.

Williams would be more like top 30….

**** me. Thinking Vardy and Lycett won us the premiership as the ruck…

Yes they played in the grand final however, Nic Nat was AA ruck for the 15 games he played. It’s the wins in those games that helped us get top 2 and two home finals. If we had relied on Lycett/Vardy all year we wouldn’t have finished top 2, and would have been pushing shit uphill to even get to a grand final.

We don’t need an AA ruck, but we need a decent one. Even Lycett was miles better than BWilliams, Flynn has yet to show he can get on the field for any sort of time.
Nobody disputes

Nobody is denying NNs influence but the fact remains we won a GF without him on the park!
Lycett was handy without being great but ( I can’t be bothered looking it up ) how many games had he played compared to BW at this stage.
Also Lycett had a premiership team around him. What has BW had? The poor bastard was not recruited to be a No1 ruck.
We have a year or two building whilst we look to nab a quality big man . Let’s give BW that time to see if he improves with the team.
We have culled heavily but we don’t need to cull somebody who has battled manfully for the last few years.I prefer him to Flynn on exposed form

Lycett always had the dog in him loved the physical stuff. Even if he was been beaten in the ruck he provided a good physical presence. Injuries cut him down shame Sylce will always be one of my favs

Rather we keep Allen - no brainer though
after the last two years of injuries that we don't commit to 5years too soon.

Give him the season to get it together. Fully expect us to give him closer to what he wants if he's fit & firing by mid-season

It's one of those situations where you're missing out on something either way; Oscar, or a high draft pick at a crucial time in the rebuild. The club will make the call, but I do know one thing...there's gonna be a lot of sooking on BF whichever way it goes.

I can see us in 2 or 3 years having loaded up on mids but lost/traded our KFs so we can get the ball down there but aren't efficient ala' 2005/06

Hopefully Archer or Shanahan can be that next main guy at FF for a decade

Seriously, you're agonising over what might be in 2 or 3 year's time? We've got a bunch of talls, most of which are just out of kindergarten and another 2/3 years of drafting in the space you've alluded to. If you look hard enough there's always negatives to find, and you do that overtly well.

We aren’t losing both Waterman AND Allen in 2-3 years time. That’s at least 2 A Grate forward, which is more than enough anyway, with it being highly likely one of our 10, also become a high B or A Grade

NGA member Tylah Williams excelled in the speed/agility tests in pre-season testing. Clocked 2.88 over 20m and 7.86 in the agility test. That's what we'd be looking for if we're trying to replicate Richmond's small forward fleet. Needs to have a big year though as Walley and Evans are similarly dynamic forwards with strong pressure games, and both are in front of him atm.

Fellow NGA player's available in next year's drafts, Raph Stack and Garrison Kenh also stood out. Stack was near the top in both running and standing vertical jump tests, and Kenh finished the agility course in 8.01 seconds

Kenh is a very exciting prospect in a glaring position of need. Line breaking HBF that is an excellent kick. Lewis Jetta.

Absolutely agree. He's a great athlete with lovely skills. If he develops the way I'm hoping he will, we'll have a Jetta-ish kind of rebounder who can take intercept marks and defend well.
