They have no games to cancel until next Thursday. The nba as good as it was played games WHILE they had suspended the season. The afl is allowed to wait a few days before making a call as they aren’t risking anyone in doing so.

Yep, they are better off thinking carefully about this over the coming days, and then making a considered decision. They can also take into account new information that comes out over the next 2 or 3 days.

On the one hand people who say "it's just the flu" are complete ****wits who deserve scorn and need to wake up

On the other hand lol Dutton it's only the flu so we can mock him.

Why am I not surprised that people can't see the complete hypocrisy in supporting both of the above statements.

  • THE AFL plans to play round one of the 2020 season as scheduled, but without spectators in stadiums.

  • The AFL is preparing to reschedule all matches beyond round one, as it knows it will almost certainly have to indefinitely shut down its competition to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak.

  • There is an acceptance of the playing group that at least some matches will be shortened in length, and that team lists will need to be bolstered with players who are not currently listed.

  • Depending on player availability, some clubs might be forced to play several matches in relatively quick succession.

As some one else mentioned there are no cruality to animals laws in China so the Chinese government don't care

But even without laws, I’m just talking as human beings how can one do that? I’d feel guilty pulling the wings off a fly, let alone doing something that horrific.

It would seem the strain of Coronavirus in Australia is not particularly troublesome. Lots of people reporting the symptoms to be very mild and in rare cases giving them performance gains.

Like ALL viruses, it will weaken as it travels.

Richmond/Carlton in front of an empty MCG just isn't right. There is no game without the fans. Call it off.
I think it'll be an amusing spectacle. It would get old after one round, I suspect, but definitely something for the history books.

Quite interesting, too, to see how away teams fare when there's no home town reaction. Does the umpiring seem to become a little fairer in the absence of a crowd roaring for ball?

If the season is canned then it's a huge knock to Indigenous football milestones, Burgoyne won't be the first indigenous player to reach 400 games, Franklin likely to miss being the first indigenous player to kick 1,000 goals.

It’s the way of life that influences people. Obviously China has allowed it to be okay. Culture shock to us, not to them

Agree

Just imagine a player from any team tests positive after next Thursday or Fridays matches have been played , the Weekend matches couldn’t go ahead.

I still think there will be a player before Thursday and they'll be forced to call it, but they should be proactive and show leadership to do so prior to that happening because it will at some point.
