This is a very sad day imo.

Good luck to Cuz in sorting himself out i hope it is not a drug problem like everybody is speculating or not a big one at least.

I echo these sentiments. No-one should get too much joy from knowing that we'll be deprived of seeing the skills of one of the game's best players.

I hope he gets some help. I'd hate to think he's lost to the game forever.

Looking at that pic actually makes me feel sorry for Cousins.
Although I am primarily a Carlton fan, I am also a fan of football in general, and the game will be a lot poorer if Ben doesn't get his act together and return to the field.
At this stage he is a very lost young man, and needs all the help he can get, regardless of what team he plays for, and what drug rules he has flaunted due to naivety, addiction, or stupidity.

You are a fool. A player has a serious problem by the looks of things and you say something like that. Collingwood could learn alot from this particularly your playing group and senior management. All clubs and players should learn from this and start tackling these 'social' issues head on instead of covering them up, whilst all in sundry can see what goes on any given Saturday or Sunday night.

I wouldn't surprise me if he's back by round 4, the guys an idiot but I think he's smart enough to realise the consequences of not cleaning his act up. I'm sure he will do what he has to do to get back in the side. The financial implications of not getting his act together are too large and not to mention if he leaves the game now he wont have much of a life after footy if he has the reputation of being a drug addict.

At least Gary Ablett became a drug addict after his career was over poor form Ben and poor form for me for just writing that.

can I just go through all the rumours and cr@p we've got in this thread so far:

here's what we know for sure:
- Ben was suspended by the club for missing training
- Ben took a drug test
- we won't know the results for weeks
- Ben broke up with his gf

here's what's been made up or guessed so far:
- Ben missed the training to avoid being tested
- the club knew about the tests beforehand
- the club didn't know about the tests beforehand
- it's already well known it was a positive test
- ben had a domestic with his gf
- ben is staying with chick
- ben is staying with his parents
- embley and chick had a fight about cousins, or his gf, or both (sounds like this one is a definite but the number of different reasons given for it make me laugh)
- Judd gave an ultimatum to suspend him or he'd sit out the whole season
- cousins will be back for rd 1
- cousins will be back for rd 3
- cousins will be back for finals
- cousins won't be back
- cousins was actually sacked
- cousins wouldn't go into rehab and that's why chick and cousins were fighting
- cousins is addicted to Ice
- cousins is addicted to coke
- cousins will be banned for 2 years
- cousins will be banned for 6-12 months
- it's his 1st strike
- it's his second strike
- it's his 3rd strike
- he was high the night before the grand final (this one is almost the most ridiculous)

as for my views on the subject, it's all been said. Is there a drug problem at west coast? there is definitely an off field discipline problem, which needs to be fixed, as it is now affecting the club's image and will inevitably affect team performance. If it involves drugs as well then I wouldn't be surprised, but I don't have the facts. I'm glad the club is doing something about it, even if it costs us in the short term.
As for cousins himself, I hope he comes back and proves us all wrong as he's a wonderfully gifted player and I love watching him play. If not then I hope he at least overcomes his demons, whatever they are.

It doesn't take weeks for tests to get done. I regularly get tested for a whole suite of illicit drugs in my job, and the results come back within days.

I don't get tested for steroids - *perhaps* they take longer, but that is hardly what this is all about is it.

It is just a smoke screen to let the whole thing die down.

Hey Buddy i know for a Fact many people, where i live work long hours & people stay up all night & go to work without any sleep,take this drug to keep them going all day mate.

There not shakey at all & are quite allert to what they are doing thats why they take the Drug & thats its harder to detect when tested so get ya Facts Right mate.
