It's interesting how many challenges they've had with these. They make sense for vulnerable people that have needed to avoid catching COVID so far, but I'm not really interested as I've already had Omicron (and three vaccines as well).
The BA.4 and BA.5 are believed to be resulted from immune escape. Not sure if the antibodies from the current vaccines or from natural immunity (previous infection) work for these variants.
The severity could be moderate. Time will tell.

Covid fun here.

Son tests positive for the 2nd time, then 5 days later wife comes down with it, 13 days after that daughter tests positive as well.

All fully vacc'd (kids x2, us x3).

Kids not too badly affected, a bit lethargic with a nagging cough for 4-5 days.

It hit the wife like a freight train however; 3 weeks after first symptoms and she is still far from over it.

All the while I've not had a single symptom whatsoever and had zero tests come up positive.

Go figure.

I know two people whose wives got it, they slept in the same bed during the infection period and they still didn't catch it.

Took me a week to catch it off my family. In the end I reckon I got it from the kids as they got crook a few days after my wife. Plus my son is a super spreading germ monster. He's wiped us out with some gnarly gastro bugs before yet been completely fine himself.

I was just after the 7 day window of my wife having it. Slept in the same bed and didn't change anything. Pretty sure I got it from my daughter.

4th dose opens today for over 30's.
Close contact/isolation rules for re-infection have just changed to 28 days instead of 12 weeks.

Just got turned away from a booster because of infection 2 months ago (not in their screening questions for booking)- seems these two policies are at odds.
Beware when booking!

Why?
Why has it dropped?
It is crazy. We have new strains of omicron that can cause re-infection, something that is going to keep happening forever. The common sense approach would be to accept it and start moving on. Stay home if you're sick (we currently have several other viruses spreading so it's not just covid) but otherwise get on with life.

Instead, they have lowered the isolation requirements, which if followed, would start leading to all sorts of disruptions. Businesses missing staff, staff working without pay because they have run out of sick leave, etc.

I expect this to lead to a big drop off in testing. You don't have to isolate for 7 days if you don't have a positive test.

Yep, my first thought also. The merry go round continues, at what point do people just say "fk it". Can't isolate continuosly forever.

Facts don't care about your feelings.

In the end the government and police aren't going to lock down society, or force you to test for COVID, or enforce mandatory isolation if you do have it. It's now up to the people. If you want to live in ignorance that the new omicron variants are more contagious and thus the previous immunity period is reduced as per widely accepted medical advice - you do you. Denying that the window is now 28 days or denying that it is now easier to spread, does not change the reality of BA4/5 we have to adjust to. It also does not change the reality that getting jabbed is the best way to ensure you can shrug it off if you do get it.

In the meantime, others will do the right thing - wear masks when required, receive vaccinations when they're eligible, get tested if they feel unwell, and isolate if positive. Will you?

Shouldn't people 'doing the right thing' wear masks even when not required? And how were the queues yesterday (assuming you're >30)?

I think it's worth masking up (with respirator masks) and trying to avoid catching Covid until more is known about the long term health affects of people catching Covid multiple times.

The time between new Covid waves is shrinking and a bit of caution through Winter is warranted. I don't think the end of the pandemic is quite as cut and dried as we'd all hoped.

Of course there are limits to its practicality and there is an aura of inevitability to COVID but I don't see any harm in governments advising people to wear masks - effective ones - when feasible.

For the record, I do not support further lockdowns but continuing to mandate it in hospitals and public transport is just common sense. Whether the mandate is extended to shopping centres or other indoor gatherings is another thing but I'd hope we don't stigmatise those that continue to wear masks.

Everyone I’m finding ignoring news reports, cracking cocktails solo in Melbs instead is the perfect prevention for whatever new variant being thrown around.

Come join me campaigners.
Wouldn't this  kind of defeat the purpose of this

dont think i will take the fourth until the omricron variant option is available.

also a few weeks ago the govt suggested they have an oversupply of vaccines and dont know what to do with it. cue the media to start squealing again.

these vaccines are useless over ba4 and 5. should be donated out.

Thankfully the club didn't listen to those in here who wanted Darling sacked. He'd have ended up missing about 1/3 the games we supported Willie through.
Gee. Reckon we’d have plummeted all the way down to 18th had that eventuated.
