Yes the fails are his fault or do we blame someone else. How about the coach or the president.
Yes three picks were blatently obvious you cant see that, Wow.
Yes regardless of the player id say three years is too early to make a call, most people would but obviously not you. Vlastuin has been okay hardly had a chance to show how good he is. Lennon and C Ellis have done nothing at the level. I know linstead lets call em bona fide champs.

You know i now know not to waste my time with rose sniffers.
Erggghhh. Your comment is just so ****ing stupid, I cant even handle it.
Do you actually think what you type? Or do you just hit random letters?
If you blame him for his fails, then you have to give him credit for his successes. Stop using that bs, it was obvious crap. He picked them. He could have gone with any other player, but he didnt. He got it right. Accept that.
E.g he was going to pick Jack with pick 7 or what ever we had, we traded down because we knew he would still be there at 13 so we could get him and another pick, That is FANTASTIC drafting.
"Derrh, but it was so obvious for some reason".
Seriously, get a grip.

Harsh, Conca hasn't been able to get his body right due to injuries and Batchelor was great this year
Even if they were misses, every club gets some wrong
It was a silly pick in the context of the draft. Heppell was always the no brain choice, at the members briefing everyone was on him about Luke Parker as our first choice and we know how that worked out. Normally I'd say leave it to the pro's but the punters were spot on, no one had heard of Conca or Batchelor prior to draft night and it turns out for good reason.

This has been flogged to death but nailing your first rounders only nets you 12 players, which is why we get knocked out early and have little depth. Thank christ we've been able to trade a few best 22 players as we sure can't draft them without blue chip picks.

Don't really give a rat's arse about not getting Heppell..Oh he can play but I can't stand him ...Parker is the one ..definitely should of grabbed him...Conca was very left field ..FJ has been far more predictable since in his selections ..I have hopes for last year's draft crop, but before then fairly slim pickings after round 1 ..
We do better with the recycled players than 2 nd 3 rd picks in the draft ...Makes me hope we grab a Moore or a Ballard with a late / rookie / PSD pick

Yeah, last years crop looks to be the best we've bought to the club. Most of them have shown good signs, and I hope we get at least 3 good long term players from them.

You can't beat the 'experts'. All good picks were obvious. All ones that haven't come on bad - especially if they got injured later in their careers.

Right now IMHO we have one the best young squads in the AFL, mostly gotten during drafts impacted by GWS & GC. So if our drafting has been poor, what of Carlton and Essen don??

Everyone missed Parker - it's why he went pick 40. Sydney thought Jed Lamb was a much better option.
So if the entire industry didn't see the gun in Parker it become's a little  when keyboard savants talk about how they knew player X would be a gun and are far better talent spotters than the professionals. Since rating a recruiter is a numbers game everyone who wants to potshot FJ should acknowledge their own howler. The one where they bagged the Tiges for not going for the obvious talent of Dale Garlett or Butcher etc.

I wonder how Dimma's first draft as head coach affected his philosophy. Tasmanian squibs, Irish imports that didn't last the summer, indigenous boys not cut out for the demands of AFL. He would have reason to prefer the solid citizen.

Every recruiting team has picked a 1st round spud and lucked on a quality rookie. It's a numbers game and FJ is OK, mediocre if you will, a little bit like our team. But he is not crap. That honour belongs to the Shemons and Carltank

You rate him mediocre I rate him crappy->mediocre. Hardly ringing endorsements. I guess it's just how happy you are with where we are at, there are those of us who are happy with anything that the club does as they believe that makes them a true supporter and there are those who think we are doing some good things and some stuff that needs to get a lot better.

I didn't say we should keep him, I said he wasn't crap. He's average, not hopeless.
I agree that neither of us are giving him a ringing endorsement.

Just remember, people are commenting like its just one guy doing all the selections. FJ's ability, especially early on, was affected by lack of funding to his department, especially when it was just him working part time. Recruitment is about a network of scouts covering every game available over 3 years, we're only recently at the point where we can match it with the best teams in the AFL in this area and our recruitment has improved at the same time. Not a coincidence.

Because it was written in 2012, with 3 good uncompromised drafts happening since then? Because players develop substantially with 3 preseasons?
You sound like a modern day Nazi trying to rewrite educational text books TO change the history of WWII saying it didn't happen
This compromised drafts nonsense is still floating around. In reality we should have been stronger as these teams were building ie we had Martin plus all of Wallets picks. We are still rebuilding now if you want to look at it in more depth.our picks in this period have fared better than most of the other teams that we are around the 5-13 th mark.We just haven't been able to nail second or third rounders as well as the others.
i can show you a list of Casino Jackson's horror stories if you need convincing

With all the talk of who we should target in trade week I wondered what age groups Richmond were lacking on our list and put together this table (attached). With 7 players from the 2006 draft on the list and then only two from 2008, it’s no surprise that many players from the 2008 draft are being linked to us. I’m sure there are a few mistakes, List managing is not my full time job.
