Daisy could be free agent target next year?

Speculation around players contracts/FA status is inevitable. How we deal with it is the only thing that matters.

Suggestion 1: Never recruit players whose fathers/mothers/second cousins have anything to do with contracts.
Suggestion 2: An incentive in the players contract to make no comment to the media when re-negoitiating.
Suggestion 3: A club policy not to negoitiate contracts during a certain period ie. july - Oct.

Its a long season.

If we lose him we will lose him, but Carlton will have to pay mightily overs and we will get a top ten pick in compensation.

Indifferent.

So you think we wont make finals next year? highest form of compo in free agency is a pick immediately after your original 1st round pick. If we make top 4 next year, which is highly likely, the best we can expect for losing Thomas is a pick between 17 and 22.

Ok unaware of that. Thought it was mostly based on salary, eg Goddard.

Regardless theres nothing we can do if he walks and he is not as crucial as the players we have already locked in. Theres no point stressing over it. I suspect the club is quite confident he will stay, otherwise he'd have been offered up for trade this year instead of Wellingham.

Anyway Daisy will be signed by mid year at the latest. When the senior coach is putting forward a quote like that it means the club will be on the front foot with things. With Jolly and Didak both possibly retiring (though IMO Jolly will go on) it could leave us with 700k to spare in the cap. Then there's also the FA movement of this year. If we were up against it cap wise for 2013 and beyond we wouldn't have been so active. It's an absolute non issue, but again if the Hun want to run with it more power to them....

I am pretty sure that money will already be assigned, so it is not like there will be an extra 700k to spend. Some of it will be planned for Cloke, some for other natural pay rises for other players (including the youg ones and Daisy-type players). The club will have modelled out their payroll for the next 3-4 years, and already know how much they can offer Daisy based on their estimates of other player rises and departures. The only flex room we will have in this (if Daisy wants more) will likely need to come from unplanned departures (which Dids or Jolls won't be).

The club will have planned for the need to give Daisy a pay rise (if they feel they need to at all) - the only issue will be whether or not he agrees to the club's estimation of his worth.

I guess that is kind of what you are saying, but I just want to avoid the perception that we will have heaps of cap space next year when Dids and Jolls go.

Exactly, I'm not making a judgement on it. But lets not perpetuate the myth that Dawes wanted out.
Yeah, I agree, Dawes didn't want to leave until he found out the position that he was going to be in from now on. I think both parties acted very professionally here, he was told the truth, and so he weighed things up and decided a move would be better for him, and probably for us also.

I for one will never boo Dawes at a Pies vs Dees match, he will always be a Collingwood premiership player after all.

As for Daisy, don't worry, he won't leave, his marketability means he can easily make as much at Collingwood during his career, and post it than he can per year anywhere else, plus Freo will chase Buddy first anyway.

Its not a myth, Bucks said it yesterday, but what he added was the Dawes wanted to maintain his senior opportunities and decided his future was elsewhere
What did Bucks say yesterday?

Of course Dawes was contracted so he didn't have to leave. But let's be honest, if you are told by the coach that your not in his plans, then the only respectful option you have is to accept a trade else where. To say Dawes wanted to leave the club is clearly rubbish in my opinion. Anyway, this discussion is just derailing the topic so I'll leave my thoughts at that.

Bucks was on SEN yesterday, he said Dawes would have preferred to stay with us but recognised his opportunities would not be same as in 2012. He wanted to continue playing senior footy and realised to do that he would have to find a new club.

No Dave, on SEN yesterday Bucks praised Dawes and said the media had misconstrued the entire matter.
Bucks spoke very highly of Dawes

He's not the type to kick a man when he's down.
He didn't want Dawes, or Wellingham, he would have fought for them otherwise.
He allowed them the dignity of being able to say it was their choice to go.

They said daisy signed for 500k less than what he could of when he signed his last 2 year deal... so i think you're way off the money there.

that was for GWS and was unsubstantiated anyway.
They had money to throw around to boost supporters, no-one else could have offered him that kind of money, and only GWS had the terms to be able to poach a player like that.
It was a choice for Daisy to leave the biggest club in the comp at the top of the ladder, for a team with a nutter coach, nut job assistant, no supporters in a state that doesnt give a crap, and to get smashed by 20 goals every week for years to come. difficult choice?

Free agency is a different situation, he can choose to go where he wants if he wants to, much more opportunity..
i don't think he'll go but if he does we've got plenty of talent to get by without him.

Yeah, I've always assumed Bucks was a liar.

Its so good to be able to see straight through people like Bucks isn't it?

Bucks is very media savvy don't be naive. He knows how to play a situation down for the benefit of everyone involved.
We saw that in the MM fiasco. If he was being truthful he would have said what everyone knew, that mick was bitter old codger and should shut up.

But he can't trick you though, you can see right through him, you can tell if he's lying even if you never heard the interview. Exceptional talent

Then did Dawes Chuck a Tanty like a 2 Year Old?

Then why Did Bucks let him Walk?

He was being diplomatic and respectful of Dawes. Its not the same thing as blatantly lying.
Either way sorry to tell you this but they all lie to the media. Santa Claus is not real either if you didn't know.
If he rated and respected Dawes talents that much he wouldn't have been so cooperative in facilitating a trade.

Bucks inferred that Dawes did none of that and that it was more of a media issue

Bucks let him walk for the reasons I have explained.

I have a view of things that goes like this Dave: Unless someone can prove to me that a person is lying, until that happens, I believe what they are saying.
Without any evidence to the contrary, I believe Bucks
